A team of scientists in Kentucky has claimed that they?ve managed to ?tweak? an inexpensive semiconductor to generate hydrogen from water using sunlight. Using an alloy that is formed by replacing 2% of the antimony in gallium nitride, it is said to have the right electrical properties that enables solar light energy to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen through a process known as photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. Since the alloy isn?t consumed in the process – it only works as a catalyst for the reaction, it can be reused indefinitely.

Today’s iPhone 5 top story is that Apple may have lost an next-gen iPhone… in a San Francisco bar, again! That seems unbelievable, but this is a story that CNET has published today. Apparently, an iPhone 5 has gone missing in the San Francisco Mission district sometime in late July and the event has sent a wave of urgency at Apple Security whose mission was to find and extract the device ASAP.
The device was reportedly lost at Cava 22, a bar sin the Mission. From there, Apple used the phone location capability, or the cellular network, to trace it to a single-family home in Bernal Heights, a residential and family friendly neighborhood. The occupant denied having the phone, and a police search did not bring anything up. Apple has even offered a reward for the return of the phone -no questions asked-, but the person still denied having the device.

According to reports online, it looks like Facebook has plans to launch its own music service next month. Apparently a CNBC technology correspondent, Jon Fortt, mentioned that his sources have informed him ?that Facebook plans to launch its long rumored music service at the f8 conference on September 22nd. Now, it seems likely that Facebook won?t actually host the music, but will partner with others to do that.?
Other than that semi-vague statement, we don?t have much information to work with, but it shouldn?t be too long until we find out, since September 22nd is only a few weeks away. Seeing how Facebook already features services like Spotify and MOG – it?ll be interesting to see which angle Facebook takes with its music service. What are your thoughts on this rumor?

Cambridge Consultants, the company behind the Sprint in-wall radar are back with a new product, and this time around it?s something more civilian-friendly that it?s previous offering. Instead of a radar used to detect enemies or traps behind walls, the company has announced a new ?eco-vacuum? concept called Stem. Citing it as possibly the ?world?s most eco-friendly vacuum cleaner?, Stem is said to use 43% less energy but provide the same performance as its regular average counterpart that can be found in just about any home today.
What makes Stem capable of such energy savings is the way it works. Stem automatically varies its power usage depending on the job being done, which also depends on the floor head or hose attachment. Secondly, the eco-vacuum intelligently reduces power usage when no cleaning is happening i.e. when paused for moving furniture or carried across the room. The layout for the vacuum cleaner?s internals have also been optimized for best airflow and maximum efficiency.
Stem will also be similar in size and weight to standard models, meets all regulatory requirements and will come at a price point comparable to premium models. Seeing how vacuum cleaners haven?t really evolved that much over the past few years, it?s good to see someone realizing the importance of improving a household staple that everyone can and will use.

Great news for doom fans in Germany – the mature rating for the two games are no longer rated as Restricted (known as Media Harmful to Young Persons over there) and have been replaced with USK 16+, this means that kids 16 and above will be allowed to purchase the game legally. While in this day and age who really plays those games anymore, and kids who really wanted to play the game would have probably found the means to obtain it through alternative outlets, but hey – it?s good to know that such a vital piece of PC gaming history can now be enjoyed by all.
The game was previously restricted to adults only due to violent graphical content available in the game, but I guess compared to other titles available today – it?s just not that violent anymore. No word on when it?ll go on sale yet, but German gamers tired of the whole COD/BF scene will have something refreshing albeit old school to look forward to.

It looks like HTC is wasting no time in taking advantage of its acquisition of Beats Electronic. The folks over at CNET have managed to get their hands on a leaked document listing the details of the HTC Sensation Special Edition, which is going to feature the acquired company?s proprietary technology – Beats. In addition to improved audio, the HTC Sensation Special Edition will have some other features that improves the original device.
The HTC Sensation Special Edition will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm 8260 processor, quadrupled internal storage of 4GB, and an enhanced battery life of 1,730mAh. The phone has a price tag of £520 ($847) and no word of whether it?ll be hitting the states, but if it does, you can expect it to be subsidized.
