Stereoscopic 3D technology is being pushed by many consumer electronics manufacturers as the next frontier for your living room, and we have seen models which feature active shutter as well as passive shutter glasses, but the next big step would be to enjoy 3D viewing without the need to wear those glasses. Such thinking has seen prototypes being developed, and the same applies for computer monitors and now, tablets.
3D tablets might just be a niche market in the future, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a market at all. Asus decides to push the envelope with their MeMo glasses-free 3D tablet over at Computex, with a codename ME173. The 7″ display is capable of hitting a resolution of 1,280 x 600 pixels, where it will also be accompanied by a pen that features a rubber tip which should go some way in helping with inking precision.

The invasion the tablets into the world of consumer electronics continues from where CES left off earlier this year, with Gigabyte being part of the parade by rolling out their S1080 tablet device. This will take the road less traveled since it is powered by Windows 7 instead of the Android operating system, running on an Intel Atom N550 1.66GHz dual-core processor while being accompanied by 2GB RAM, sporting a 320GB hard drive, integrated GMA 3150 graphics with VGA output, Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

There is word going around the Internet that a spanking new Eee PC X101 Meego netbook have been spotted at Computex, where both JKKMobile and netbooknews did have more than a passing mention concerning the device. As you can tell by the image above, it is not only very thin, but one can also draw a conclusion that surely a solid state drive is inside instead of a hard drive.
Heck, there will also apparently be an App Store for it, and it will most likely be built on the Oaktrail platform, albeit further proof will be required before that claim can be confirmed. It seems that the latest word on the grapevine would be the Eee PC X101 Meego is based on an N435 processor.
No idea on pricing or availability as at press time, so we will just have to wait for an official announcement or until reporters at Computex manage to get their cameras and keyboards on this device.

The Samsung Galaxy S II does seem to be a winner from many aspects, and has picked up rave reviews along the way as well, for good reason too. It has a stunning display, a fast processor and a well-rounded feature set, but it seems that all good things must eventually come to an end, and the same holds true for the Samsung Galaxy S II. Some users of the Android-powered handset have noticed that their Super AMOLED Plus displays tend to have a yellowish tinge off to one side as you can see on the right.
It seems that the easiest method to detect whether your Galaxy S II has this issue is to turn your display’s brightness down, while observing a solid-colored neutral background. The effect can be so subtle that most people might miss it, but yet it is still undeniable that such an “defect” is present, although others might argue that this could be because of the photo taken itself, where light and angles tend to play tricks on the eyes.

We do know that there will be a WiMAX-enabled BlackBerry PlayBook rolling out sometime down the road, but there is no word on an exact date just yet. However, some enterprising sleuths who decided to rely on the power of Google managed to uncover a secret – the shipping date of such a PlayBook might be closer than you think. This is made possible thanks to a Google search that shows a reference to a new Sprint Playbook webpage which references a 4G version. The link seems to be just a placeholder at the moment, without divulging any more additional information that would send the tablet community nuts.

Apple has a spanking new MacBook Bottom Case Replacement Program that will cater for MacBooks which shipped between October 2009 and April 2011, so owners of said white MacBooks who are “suffering” from peeling rubber cases will be able to obtain a free replacement of the entire case – never mind if it is still under warranty or not. You not only have locked phones in some parts of this world that are “stuck” to a particular carrier, but data stick modems are also part of the equation. Not anymore, if Nova Media has their way thanks to the Mac OS X-friendly iCON 461 3G data stick modem that will be completely unlocked, letting it play nice with more or less the majority of 2G or 3G networks worldwide. The modem itself will boast a built-in GPS chip and a microSD memory card slot, where the latter helps it keep up with the Joneses so that it doubles up as a portable storage device.

First we heard that the Sony Next Generation Portable (Sony NGP for short) might actually see some of its innards getting slashed in terms of specifications so that it can compete with Nintendo’s 3DS handheld console in terms of price (or at least, bring it closer to a similar range), and now there is another rumor to accompany the yet unreleased device. It seems that word on the grapevine has it that the Sony NGP might actually be called the PlayStation Vita, where Vita being known as “life” in Latin – perfectly reasonable, don’t you think so?

Now here is a reference design that we definitely won’t mind having on our desks – the Intel Keeley Lake that you see above. No idea on whether it is Oaktrail or Cedar Trail, but some parties tend to lean more towards the latter since Cedar Trail more likely to be a big component of Intel?s keynote at Computex today.
Notebook Italia managed to get hold of a super slim device that features relocated ports on the rear, and this is simply because of a design “issue” as the entire chassis itself is already so thin. Do bear in mind that Cedar Trail is rumoured to come with a PowerVR graphics core and WiDi support, where the power envelope ought to remain in the range of around 4-5W TDP for the platform, and this alone matches the thermal limitations which the design is touted to sport.
