Vision Board II has garish large fonts

Vision Board II has garish large fontsCheck out the Vision Board II keyboard that ought to be a hit with geriatrics and those with failing eyesight. I personally can't see myself getting used to bold, black fonts on one inch square keys that are yellow in color, as touch typing would require a Herculean effort. It is nice to see hardware manufacturers come up with solutions to bridge the digital divide between the old and young in this computer age. Each Vision Board II comes with a couple of USB 2.0 ports on the right side, making it easy for you to plug in your USB flash drives instead of fumbling at the back of your computer. If the killerbee yellow and black combo hurts your eyes too much, you always have the traditional black (keyboard) and white (keys) color combo. The Vision Board II retails for $90.

Kids Be Gone targets young uns

Kids Be Gone targets young unsHow do you fancy a device that sends kids and teenagers under the age of 20 scampering away? Known as the Kids Be Gone, this device supposedly makes an annoying sound that can be heard by teens and younger ones, since we older folk have already damaged our ears beyond repair by pumping up the volume on our Walkmans and Discmans for years. Perhaps the younger generation might grow immune to it faster than expected with the deluge of MP3 players flooding the market. Anyways, the Kids Be Gone has been hailed by Bobbys in England to be the most effective tool in their fight against antisocial behavior, which goes a long way in promoting its effectiveness. I wonder how will babies and other animals react to this device.

Harman Kardon receivers accept iPods

Harman Kardon receivers accept iPods

If speakers are the soul of a home audio system, then the heart is represented by the receiver. Harmon Kardon drives home this point by offering a quartet of receivers that include two 7.1 channel systems - the AVR 347 and AVR 247 which retail for $999 and $549 respectively. Those who do not have the budget to spare can settle for the AVR 147 and AVR 146 5.1 channel systems that come with $449 and $349 price tags. All four models will come with HDMI connectivity, an exclusive iPod interface with audio and video playback, and a host of advanced features that will keep any listener happy. Sandisk to offer USBTV

Sandisk to offer USBTV

Sandisk, more noted for their memory cards than anything else, is dipping their toes into the growing digital media market by delivering TV into your living room via a USB thumbdrive. This dongle does not only enable you to watch TV, it also comes with a bunch of flash memory, a video line-out, and a DRM-enabled video decoder. The USBTV targets those who aren't the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to technology, empowering users to load video onto the USBTV dongle and watching it on the TV, thanks to the built-in video decoder. Trials are currently being held as you read this, so expect the USBTV to hit retail shelves within this year. I guess Sandisk's strategy is to target the critical mass with a two-pronged approach of ease of use and a low entry cost.

iNoPhone sparks the imagination

iNoPhone sparks the imagination

It is nice to read about a prank gadget once in a while, and with the whirlwind of news surrounding the Apple iPhone, it is only a matter of time before you get a parody device called the iNoPhone. The product description is pretty hilarious, offering a "proven user interface based on one button, letting you control your calls with just one finger. So it ushers in an era of sophistication never before seen in a bluetooth device, completely redefining what you can do with your current phone." Strangely enough, there is some truth in that statement. As for the price, the iNoPhone probably costs five laughs and a slap on the back.

Torture chamber in your home

Torture chamber in your home

Exercise is one activity where we don't see the benefits until we work hard at it for a period of time. Unfortunately for most of us, it is definitely one resolution that we break hardly one month into the new year. The Kinesis Personal furniture you see above was specifically designed to encourage you to work out in the comfort of your own home. It boasts a system of tensile pulleys that urge you to work out in 3D, giving you the opportunity to check out 200 different exercise positions in a patented "fullgravity" environment. I personally think that is an acronym for torture, but as the healthy and the beautiful always say,"No pain, no gain!".

This Tomato is no fruit

This Tomato is no fruit

It is time to change at least one traditional question with the release of the U20 - "Is the Tomato a fruit, vegetable, or portable media player?" The U20 from Korean company Tomato has jumped into the portable media player fray, offering a slick design that unfortunately houses ordinary features. Available in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB capacities, the Tomato U20 comes with a 2" 260k color TFT LCD display, an integrated FM tuner, support for MP3, MPEG 4, WMV, ASF, and JPEG file formats, and a miniSD memory card slot for expansion purposes. You can also use the U20 as an ad-hoc voice recorder thanks to the built-in mic. Unfortunately, 4GB isn't going to make the cut these days when it comes to video. Pricing details are unknown.

A Voice Secretary is also included to help your ageing mind remember the day's schedules. Other features include a built-in MP3 player, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and an electronic dictionary. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown, but it would be nice to see this handset land in North America.

Clocky for real

Clocky for realLooks like some concept devices actually made it into the real world, and this project from MIT student Guari Nanda is now available for purchase. To recap, Clocky is an alarm clock that rolls away when it rings, forcing you to get up and chase after it in order to keep it quiet. Of course, Clocky banks on the premise that you would be wide awake by the time you hunt it down. I say imprison Clocky in a desk drawer and let him ring in there, you don't have the hassle of running after time and get a couple more minutes of sleep. Clocky retails for $50 and has a bunch of accessories to go along with it to boot.
