Wharfdale Hi-Fi stereo system

Wharfdale Hi-Fi stereo system

The layman still balks at having a computer in a home theater setup, so Wharfdale decided to ease such persons into the next era of home entertainment by encroaching such territory slowly but surely. Their new Hi-Fi stereo system is equipped with a 40GB hard drive that can store an estimated 8,000 songs. You can add new songs to the hard drive by importing them via USB or ripping CD audio tracks into the MP3 format there and then. This Wharfdale unit boasts a pair of speakers with a power rating of 30 watts. Other rudimentary features include an AM/FM radio, a LCD display, and CD-R/RW playback. Unfortunately, the $380 price tag attached to it makes for an unattractive buy.

USRobotics Cordless Skype Phone

USRobotics Cordless Skype PhoneThe new USR9630 Cordless Phone for Skype from USRobotics is a neat device that is capable of handling Skype calls through a standard landline or on a PC via the USB port. You can connect up to four USR9631 Accessory Handsets with the USR9630 base station, ensuring that each family member has a fair chance of speaking via Skype. The main advantage this setup has over other devices in a similar vein is the ability to receive PSTN calls when connected to a landline, albeit being unable to store voice mail. The USR9631 Accessory Handset looks pretty plain by today's standards and comes with a measly monochrome screen.

Call up Lassie with PetsCell

Call up Lassie with PetsCellTalk about pampering your pets - the PetsCell does exactly that, keeping you in touch with your favorite mutt. This voice-enabled device is fully waterproof and is meant to be attached to a dog's collar. There is a special number assigned to each device, so you can call it anytime you like and soothe him should he feel lonely prancing around restlessly in the wee hours of the morning. The auto-answering device even comes with a built-in GPS unit that can be tracked either online or through a 3G cellphone. I guess that means he has to listen to your whines and complains about the neighbor whether he likes it or not – does that constitute as cruelty to animals?
