When it comes to portable gaming, nothing really beats a dedicated handheld gaming device, but somehow, smartphones have caught up dramatically in terms of hardware specifications and its ability, so even the iPhone and other high-end Android-powered devices are more than capable of churning out some great looking games. Of course, the gradual move to touchscreen displays have also evolved the third party accessory market, and this time around we have Donya with their Gamepad stickers that will comprise of five stickers in all. Three of them will be buttons that show off one single, one stacked double, and one triple. Not only that, it also comes with a couple of four-way directional controllers which can be used simultaneously. While these stickers are easily removable, we’re not too sure whether you actually need that kind of visual confirmation to leave you around $12 poorer in the end. It won’t bode too well for your street gaming cred, if you know what I mean.

According to HTC France in their latest tweet, it seems as though they mentioned, “You want an HTC EVO 3D for France? So do we! It’ll keep the same name, too. Release date has yet to be confirmed.” Could this mean the HTC EVO 3D has a GSM variety hidden away somewhere that no one knows about, or is it just HTC France attempting to do a little apple polishing on their part to make sure that their customers will feel sympathized with? Of course, a GSM model of the EVO 3D seems more likely, since the HTC website did show a EVO 3D specification page that does point out to a GSM version of the handset with tri-mode WCDMA. What do you think?

Most of us know that talking on the phone or texting while driving is a huge no-no – never mind that you think that you have developed that ability to an extent where you are able to make calls while giving your all to the road, it is still a dangerous thing to do as you can never quite tell just how that lack of concentration, even a wee bit, might result in an oversight – and subsequently, an accident. Sprint has plans to counter that with a software known as Drive First, making it available to their Android-powered smartphones to “dumb” them down in order to encourage the handset’s owner to focus on driving instead. Drive First will be developed by Location Labs, where it will automatically keep the phone’s display locked and redirect all your incoming calls to your voicemail. Apart from that, all text messages will be blocked as well, where the sender will be alerted that the driver is unavailable, while making sure you can only access three key contacts and a trio of applications, where among them would be GPS-based navigation. Who knows, they might even tie up your phone to your bank account or credit card in the future, automatically crediting an appropriate amount in fines with each infraction on the road?

Add to myYahoo!Apple recently announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place this year from June 6 to June 10 at the Moscone West in San Francisco. But the conference itself isn’t what will catch peoples’ eyes. No, the real matter of importance is that a debut of the iPhone 5 could come out of the conference, given Apple’s timing in the past. Previously, Apple has used the keynote address at WWDC several times to introduce its new Read Full Article

A couple of weeks ago, Warner Brothers and Facebook started a movie rental service on the popular social network, and it looks like response has been great. Warner Brothers as just announced that they will be adding 5 more titles to the lonely The Dark Knight movie that was made available earlier this month. The movies that cost 30 Facebook Credits ($3) to rent, will give users 48 hours to finish the movie whilst still chatting with their friends on Facebook, mimicking the experience of watching movies together with friends (but not quite). The 5 more movies that will be added to the rental line up are: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Inception, Life as We Know It and Yogi Bear. Since Facebook is already well on its way to dominating every aspect of our lives, it would be a matter of time before it took over movie rental as well. I predict a music-based service on Facebook next.

How big can touchscreens be? Well, if you’re like Microsoft and have the money for such technology, the sky’s the limit. Microsoft Germany and Stereolize came up with the Microsoft Cinema ? a massive 234″ touchscreen display. It wasn’t stated if the screen’s touch functionalities extended all the way to the top of the screen, but since it was taller than every presenter using the touchscreen at CeBIT 2011 where it made its debut, it is assumed it is. The screen supports gestures like flicking and panning, and makes for an awesome new way to handle presentations. If these giant screens replace projectors in the future, it would mean no more fumbling around with clumsy clickers. Hit the break to watch a video of the screen in action:

In an attempt to go even greener, the Cincinnati Zoo has recently installed a large array of solar panels to feed electricity to the zoo. The installation consists of over 6,400 solar panels over the zoo’s carpark, covering 800/1,000 parking spots and sits 15 to 18 feet high. Touted as the country’s largest and most publicly accessible solar-power system, it was also designed to increase awareness towards solar energy for folks who visit the zoo. Unfortunately despite being “green”, the electricity generated from the sunlight won’t come for free. Melink Corporation that operates the installation is charging the Cincinnati Zoo at about the same price as what they were paying before at $0.08/kWh ? at least the energy they get is green.
