I just got a call, a video call that is, from one of my Google friends with an Android smartphone. The call came in over my Google Talk client built into Gmail, and at first I thought it was just a regular voice call, but when I clicked Answer, there was my friend walking along [...]

Nextbook has just announced that they have begun to ship their latest Android tablet, the Next5. Nextbook calls the Next5 the first Android tablet that comes with an Integrated APEN Digital Pen. What’s so special about the APEN Digital Pen is that it connects to the Next5 wirelessly, allowing users to generate, save and/or transmit real-time notes, write emails, and create drawings using regular paper and normal ink. So if you’ve been looking for a tablet that has writing as a key component of the device, the Next5 tablet could be for you.
It comes with a 7″ display, Android 2.1 (unfortunately), WiFi, SlideME app manager, eBook Store, 2GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, 25-preloaded books and an MP3/photo viewer and built-in speakers. Definitely not a high-end tablet that’s meant to compete with the likes of the Motorola XOOM or iPad, the Nextbook Next5 Android tablet is now available and will cost you $299.00. The HTC Droid Incredible 2 has arrived and everything suggests that it is a great successor to the original HTC Droid Incredible (check our Droid Incredible Review if you missed it). Some things have changed, like the loss of the AMOLED display (HTC could not procure enough of them), but other things have not: the Incredible 2 still has a great industrial design, solid software and a colorful display.
HTC presents the Incredible 2 as a smartphone for those who ?dare to be different?, as a ?standout cinematic experience? and a great imaging phone. This sounds great but is that really so? In this review, I?m going to go over the most frequently used features to tell you how the HTC Droid Incredible 2 looks -and behaves- in the real world. Are you ready? Let?s dive…

According to an interesting observation reported by TorrentFreak, Netflix might be doing more than just serving Americans their daily doses of videos and movies – Netflix might actually be killing off piracy. They’ve noticed that as the number of Netflix subscribers almost doubled in number from last year, the number of BitTorrent users in the US has slightly decreased. Now it’s hard to come to a definite conclusion about whether there is any correlation between the two sets of figures (BitTorrent can be used to download other files as well i.e. books, games, music etc) but it looks like Netflix could be on the right path to combating piracy.

Great news for fans of Pandora who are thinking or purchasing a BMW this year for your next car ? the German car manufacturer has announced that all their 2011 and 2012 models will be able be able to support the Pandora Internet radio iPhone app. Starting today, all MY 2011 and 2012 BMW vehicles that have the BMW Apps option will be able to stream Pandora internet radio through the iPhone app. All users have to do is connect the iPhone to the vehicle, and the app can be seamlessly controlled via the vehicle’s existing controls.
It looks like BMW drivers can bring their personal radio stations with them wherever they go. Though the integration with the vehicle’s controls is a nice feature to have, it isn’t really essential to have. In fact, if your phone can already stream Pandora, and you have an AUX-input in your car’s stereo system, you should have no problem letting your music play through the car as well – the only thing missing is the integrated controls with your vehicle. Just make sure you keep your phone juiced with a cable to the power outlet. Anyway, if you have a BMW with BMW Apps enabled head over to the App Store to download the Pandora app for free now.

As of now, not many Android phones have Gingerbread, or even have a front facing camera for that matter, but Google has just announced that the latest version of Android, version 2.3.4 will bring native video calling to the operating system. When you have the latest version of Android installed on your phone, all you have to do is launch Google Talk, and you should see an icon for video calling next to the contact’s name if he/she has video calling capabilities. Simply touching the icon will launch video calling on your phone.

Add to myYahoo!OtterBox has just announced that they are now part of RIM’s Built for BlackBerry program. This means that OtterBox will be one of the few selected manufacturers chosen to design certified and endorsed accessories for BlackBerry devices. This is a prestigious label and essentially means what OtterBox creates for BlackBerry devices will be of high quality and won’t damage or hamper the BlackBerry device in any way. This new certification for the high-quality accessory manufacturer should see a lot of customers flocking to them for BlackBerry cases.
Head over to the OtterBox website to see their selection of cases available for BlackBerry devices. They’ve also recently launched the BlackBerry PlayBook Defender Series case to keep your QNX tablet safe, sound, and free from bump damage. It is available now for $69.95 from their website. How many of you use OtterBox cases to protect your phones and if you do, what do you think of their products?

Add to myYahoo! Finally, everybody’s favorite fruit slicing and dicing game Fruit Ninja will be ported over for Kinect on Xbox 360. According to Siliconera, Korea’s Game Ratings Board has rated Fruit Ninja Kinect. Developers Halfbrick haven’t made any official announcements yet, but it should be coming any day now, now that the cat’s out of the bag.
Gameplay will likely be relatively straight forward. Players will probably be using their hands to slice fruits on screen. If anything, it shouldn’t look too far off from this hacked VR Fruit Ninja game from last month.
Honestly, I like Veggie Samurai more because I feel the game’s deeper and you can slice multiple vegetables at once several times, but that’s just me.

According to the latest news heard through the grapevine, serving music just isn’t enough for Spotify anymore. Apparently Spotify has been reportedly making deals with major movie studios to expand its streaming services to include movies as well as music. While no specific details have been mentioned, Spotify is said to be going all in with this movie deal. The company from Luxembourg is said to be gunning for earlier access to movies ? similar to what hotels offer, which means users will be able to watch movies just weeks after they are released in the cinemas. Much earlier than on DVD or Netflix/Amazon/iTunes and the like. Spotify is also said to be negotiating for worldwide rights, making the movie streaming service available all over the world.
With YouTube also planning to launch a similar service, it looks like the streaming movie business is going to get a little crowded. But Spotify’s early access to movies might set them apart from the crowd. As of now, there’s no concrete evidence to back these rumors, so take them with a pinch of salt. Maybe a tablespoon. At least until Spotify makes the announcement themselves.
