Adobe Carousel now available for Mac OS and iOS

Adobe CarouselAdobe Carousel, Adobe’s new photo editing and sharing app that’s based off Adobe Lightroom was announced in September, and after more than a month of waiting, the app is finally available to the public. In case you’re unfamiliar with Carousel, it is an app that lets users access their entire photo library from their iOS devices or Mac OS computers without having to worry about manual syncing. A lot of times we can take photographs on our various devices and forget to transfer them to our main computers, and sometimes they end up being forgotten. With Carousel, Adobe aims to solve that problem.

Microsoft demonstrates Xbox Companion App

Xbox Companion appRemember the Xbox companion app that was revealed a few weeks ago? Well today at the Nokia World 2011 event, the folks over at Microsoft have decided to give the world a preview of what the app will be like when it’s finally released to the public. All you need to do is turn your Xbox on, launch the app on your Windows Phone, pair up the devices and you’re set. With the app, users can then search for movies, launch them on the Xbox 360, and control its playback.

Users can also use the app to look up additional information about the movie i.e. cast, crew etc ? just like having IMDB in the palm of your hands, the main difference being the ability to watch launch those movies you look up with the tap of a button. Pretty useful integration that works, if you ask me. Check out the demonstration video for yourself after the break:

Hisense and eyeSight to launch Android TVs with
integrated gesture recognition technology

Hisense Android TVIn an attempt to make a smart TV even smarter, the folks over at Hisense Group have teamed up with eyeSight Mobile Technologies to integrate its innovative Hand Gesture Recognition Technology into its upcoming Android smart TVs. Using gesture connected TVs, users will be able to perform various functions by using intuitive hand gestures thanks to the TV’s inbuilt 2D camera.

No longer will users have to worry about losing the remote control ? just by waving their hands or making certain motions they’ll be able to switch channels, adjust the volume and more. Users will even be able to play games using hand gestures a la the Kinect (though I doubt the TV will have games as fleshed out as those found on the Xbox 360).

No word of when the TVs will hit the market on this side of the world, but they will be demonstrated at CES next year.

Ford Lane Keeping System detects drowsy drivers

Ford Lane Keeping SystemIf you’ve ever gotten sleepy behind the wheel, you would know how dangerous it can be. Well, the folks over at Ford have come up with a solution (even though the best solution is to just don’t drive when you’re sleepy) that aims to prevent sleepy drivers from getting into accidents. Called the Lane Keeping System, it continually monitors the vehicle’s lane position and will notify a driver if it detects inattentiveness with a coffee cup warning light on the dashboard.

HP keeps its PC division

It looks like HP was a bit rash with its previous decision to spin off its Personal Systems Group (PSG) ? the division that creates its personal computers. The company has announced today that after much deliberation they’ve decided to keep the PSG within HP ? a move that is “right for customers and partners, right for shareholders, and right for employees”. According to the company’s evaluation of the PSG, it turns out that division contributes to a significant portion of HP’s solutions portfolio and overall brand value. Also, the cost to recreate these in a standalone company outweighed any benefits of separation.

With HP taking back its decisions made earlier this year, perhaps we’ll see webOS coming back to life? We can only hope and keep our fingers crossed. Read more about its decision.

SoundCloud gets revamped mobile and a native iPad
app

SoundCloudSoundCloud, one of the best services out there for musicians to share and promote their music, has announced that it has finally got a native iPad app in addition to a revamped mobile experience (iOS, Android and the mobile website). The smartphone apps feature a brand new waveform design, and make it easier to post and view comments. It’s easier to “find & follow” other users, communicate with them through recorded private messages, and view larger profile images in the app.

SoundCloud on the iPad is designed to take full advantage of all the display real estate available on the 9.7″ tablet to let users interact with its new waveform interface. SoundCloud is available now from the Apple App Store and the Android Market for free. It is also accessible via its mobile website. Take note that an account is required for you to upload your own music and to comment on other users’ work. Find out more at the SoundCloud website.
