"12 Gizmos of Christmas": #4, Video

Video products come in as #4 on our survey of most wanted items under the Christmas tree. Oddly enough, none of the three items we picked to represent Video products include a VCR.The first item we feature made a big splash earlier in the fall with it's $800 price tag and is TiVo's first product in the HD realm. That's all you get for now... you'll just have to wait for the other two products to be revealed later today.

Clarins anti-radiation facial spray

Clarins anti-radiation facial sprayClarins, the company that aims to make every woman beautiful with its line of cosmetics and beauty regimes, will launch what it claims to be the world's first spray that will be able to protect one's skin from the electromagnetic radiation that is emitted by cellphones and various electronic devices like notebooks and PDAs. This unique spray is said to contain molecules which are derived from microorganisms that live near undersea volcanoes as well as extremely hardy plants. This launch will take place in January, so you will have to endure one more Christmas looking horrid after trying to co-ordinate a family reunion dinner with last minute gatecrashers without getting any help from your spouse at all. There's no price set to this spray yet, but women who are pre-occupied with skin deep beauty won't mind forking out a premium for it I guess.

JVC HA-NC80 dual-mode headphones

JVC HA-NC80 dual-mode headphones
JVC has unveiled a pair of headphones that offer two modes which can be used depending on the mode of transport you're currently on. The HA-NC80 noise-canceling headphones' Wide Mode targets those who are flying in the air, while the Low Mode is more suitable for land transport like trains and buses. The JVC HA-NC80 are extremely easy to pack and carry around and comes with a dual-plug adapter. At $59.95, this is a pretty affordable pair of headphones although we would highly recommend a pair of in-ear phones while you're sitting in a pair of wings to detach yourself from the engine and wind noise completely.

Credit Card Alarm for forgetful types
Credit card fraud is something everyone fears as you never know who might clone your card during payment, so why not pick up the Credit Card Alarm just to be on the safe side? This device is actually an intelligent card case that beeps every 20 seconds whenever it does not detect the presence of your credit card inside. Constructed from plastic and stainless steel, it will just add a little bit more bulk in your wallet or purse. BimBamBanana.com is carrying the Credit Card Alarm for $55 a pop, and they claim that the beeps emitted are so discreet that it won't be able to attract attention in restaurants or on the street. Which leads us back to the question, will it be able to attract your attention then if others around you can't hear it?

First virtual millionaire is Anshe Chung

First virtual millionaire is Anshe Chung
The Second Life game economic bubble could burst very soon despite hitting new highs with Anshe Chung being the first virtual millionaire. Anshe is actually a real-estate tycoon who made her first million in the game itself, whereby her holdings in a make-believe world can be legally converted into actual U.S. dollars that will amount to more than a cool million. We're not sure if Anshe will be giving up her holdings so soon or hold on for higher returns in the future, but for everybody's sakes, we hope that the Second Life will not end up as yet another Tulip mania back in the 17th century.

Laundry Wall concept from Whirlpool

Laundry Wall concept from Whirlpool
Doing your laundry can be quite a tedious chore as you are required to separate your whites from your colors, but Whirlpool has a concept that will relegate that problem to extinction should the prototype ever be put into production. Their design of the Laundry Wall involves two levels that consists of management and storage. Three individually marked bins (whites, colors, darks) ensure you won't mix up your laundry, while an equal amount of storage zones in the wall make keeping clean clothes easy. There is even a refresher unit that helps steam, de-crease, and dry your crumpled clothes in a jiffy. Housewives will be crossing their fingers that this will be a reality soonest possible.

Full metal keyboard

Full metal keyboard

Those who grew up in dark and dank arcades will definitely remember the trackball which was used in the classic Missile Command game. Somebody in Japan decided to cook up a fully metal keyboard with a similar trackball, christening it the Fullmetal KB+TB. The dimensions of this non-plastic keyboard measures 392mm x 110mm and comes with a 2mm keystroke. It is connected to your PC via USB, and was originally designed to be used in industrial environments where something durable and cleanable was requiered. You can always pick one up for yourself for approximately $450 after conversion and use it to bonk any irritating colleague over the head.

DUALphone 3088 the no-frills VoIP phone

DUALphone 3088 the no-frills VoIP phone

Making VoIPphone calls has never been this easy with the introduction of the DUALphone 3088. This communications device enables users to make extremely cheap VoIP calls via landlines using SkyeOut, as well as free calls to other Skype users as long as the DUALphone 3088's wireless base station is connected to any available broadband router over Ethernet. This eliminates the need for a PC as the middleman, making life so much simpler especially for older, less tech-savvy folks who just want to make cheap phone calls. All that is required is your Skype username and password and you're good to go. Just make sure there is enough balance in your SkypeOut account before burning up the phone lines at night. The DUALphone 3088 will be available from next month onwards for $206. More features are available after the jump.

XFPS 360 for easier FPS play

XFPS 360 for easier FPS play
Despite all the motion sensing hullabaloo that is going around at this moment, there is still no better way to play first person shooters than using the traditional keyboard and mouse set up. This is why most console games suffer in the FPS department, no thanks to the lack of a good control system. XCM hopes to change that notion by introducing the XFPS 360, but I do have my reservations as the in-game engine was written for the Xbox 360's controller in the first place and is not native to the keyboard and mouse combo we have all come to know and love as PC gamers. Each XFPS 360 comes with PS/2 and USB ports to connect your mouse and keyboard. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown.
