Epoq Nextgen 4GB PMP

Epoq Nextgen 4GB PMP

We got word that this Epoq 4GB PMP was going to be demoed at CES 2008. It has a clean design and a light weight: 90g. I don’t see MPEG4 in the list of supported format (or DivX), so you’ve been warned. The Epoq reminds me a little of the Olympus m:robe 500, that turned out to be a flop.

D+S Plasma-Lift Conference Table

D+S Plasma-Lift Conference Table

It is true that you never get a second chance at a first impression, so it would be prudent for any self-respecting meeting room to house the D+S Plasma-Lift Conference Table that is almost certain to wow whoever sits at that table. This platform is perfect for multimedia within a small group, where the 42" plasma display retracts upwards when required and is stored safely within when not in use. The conference table seats up to a dozen folks, and the table is furnished with creature comforts such as a video camera, stereo speakers and microphones. Expect to fork out a quarter of a hundred grand for one of these.

Samsung AMOLED TV is super slim

Samsung AMOLED TV is super slim Samsung isn't about to quit the slim race just yet, with their latest effort resulting in a 31" AMOLED TV. This new display touts to be the largest ever of its kind, measuring a mere 4.3mm thin. Now that's really thin, and when placed side by side with your LCD TV, your possession would look as though it was an overweight elephant. Not only is it much slimmer, it also boasts a superior contrast ratio compared to standard flat panel displays while consuming just half the power of a 32" LCD TV. This new AMOLED TV has a 35,000 hour rating, which means you can run it for four years without turning it off - the longest for any AMOLED display to date.

JVC HP-FX500 goes all wooden

JVC HP-FX500 goes all wooden JVC's HP-FX500 earphones come in wood - a rather unique material considering how everyone else is using plastic these days. According to JVC, the use of wood enhances audio quality, but that remains to be tested. Do you think it is but a psychological advantage? In any case, each pair retails for approximately €100 which is rather pricey, not to mention it being more flammable than ordinary plastic.

Dicey speakers from Bird Electronics

Dicey speakers from Bird Electronics

Want to pimp out your car? You can do so with these dice speakers from Bird Electronics. Each dice-type speaker comes adorned with cute cartoons by TAKA Tetsu Shima, with a quartet of variations to choose from. You also get a stereo mini-jack that enables you to hook them up to portable players. Most of the speaker is made out of plastic save for the rubber base. Choose from dense wax white, black/white, or white colors for $46 a pop. For those living outside of Japan, tough luck since they seem to be confined to the Land of the Rising Sun only.

Vividaudio G1 GIYA speaker

Vividaudio G1 GIYA speaker

The Vividaudio G1 GIYA speaker is definitely one of the weirdest speaker designs that I have ever come across. It definitely merges both art and technology in a soulful manner. Unfortunately, not much is known about it other than the fact that it will be featured at CES 2008. Oh yeah, you will need to dig deep for this though, as the Vividaudio G1 GIYA speaker comes with a sticker price tag of $54,000. Medic!

Panasonic Blu-ray drive slims down

Panasonic Blu-ray drive slims down Panasonic has started to ship samples of what it claims to be the thinnest Blu-ray drive in the world. This was made possible thanks to advanced optics, reducing the drive height to a mere 9.5mm from its previous height of 12.7mm - that's a massive 25% reduction, making it slim enough to fit in light notebooks that previous did not have the chassis to support the HD disc format. Being small in size does not mean that it is equal in stature where performance is concerned. This Panasonic Blu-ray drive can write BD-R or BD-RE (rewritable) discs at 2X, support dual-layer, 50GB discs and upcoming low-cost, organic dye discs. Heck, it even does single-layer DVDs at 8X for those who have yet to make the HD jump.
