Transformers for girls

Transformers for girls
Now isn't this a hoot - the frenzied imagination of folks at Something Awful has resulted in these Transformers figures for girls. No idea if Hasbro would make a ton of cash if they ever released such toys, but there is a possibility of such models ending up as collectors' items many years down the road. My second favorite would be the My Little Pony model, guess which is my favorite? The answer lies in the photo gallery. Does anyone else have any other concept Transformers ideas?

Zune gets Halo 3 Edition

Zune gets Halo 3 EditionWhile the Zune was not the iPod killer that it was supposed to be, selling over a million units (that's about 1% of what the iPod has sold to date) is still no mean feat. With the impending release of Halo 3 on the Xbox 360, Microsoft has readied a Zune Halo 3 Edition that is virtually a black 30GB Zune that has been given an external Halo 3 skin and comes pre-loaded with Halo content. Among those include complete soundtracks from the first two Halo games as well as a trio of Halo 3 making-of videos, and more than 120 artwork images. The price for fanboyism? $250. Better get this of Master Chief will be all over you in a flash.

Red One begins to ship

Red One begins to ship

Red One, a video camera that is touted to revolutionize documentary and movie film making, will begin to ship the initial 25 units this Friday. They cost a cool $17,000 each, boasting an 11.4 megapixel sensor and the ability to capture up to 60 frames per second - double that of typical high-end HD camcorders. The modular based design works in its favor as well, enabling users to add different rigs, lenses, and other accessories according to your needs - allowing you to capture images in a lower quality. Currently, directors such as Peter Jackson and Steven Soderbergh are already using it.

FineDrive M760 gets A-GPS

FineDrive M760 gets A-GPS

The FineDrive M760 has just been given a hardware refresh, adding A-GPS technology that helps it improve the time required to get an initial satellite fix in addition to the T-DMB receiver and media player capabilities. To date, A-GPS has only been included in cellphones as an effort to improve battery life while getting a satellite fix indoors, and it is nice to see such technology being transported over to a dedicated GPS navigation. I guess one can also expect a longer battery life with this enhancement.

NHC Ecolong miserly on power usage

NHC Ecolong miserly on power usage

The NHC Ecolong is a miser when it comes to power consumption - this tiny digital audio player offers an amazing 85 hours of playback time all from a single AAA battery, making it perfect for those who have a long road trip up in their itenary. Other than superior battery life, the Ecolong isn't really special in other aspects, offering MP3 and WMA (non-DRM) support and a measly 1GB of internal memory. I would've been nice to see a memory card slot of some kind included, but that would then be reflected in a price that's higher than the current $52. The NHC Ecolong measures 78mm x 36.6mm x 18.5mm and weighs 36g.

New Iomega Home Network Hard Drives

New Iomega Home Network Hard Drives

Iomega has just launched its line of Home Network Hard Drives that boasts 7200RPM SATA II hard drives inside complete with 8MB of cache. While users might be disappointed to find out that only Ethernet 10/100 is included and not Gigabit, that let-down is compensated by the knowledge that USB 2.0 connectivity has been thrown in for local connections. Currently, the 320GB and 500GB models are available, retailing for $149 and $199 respectively. A 360GB model is in the pipeline and will be released next month for $149, so if you can hold out until September, it makes more sense to fork out the same amount of money and bring home an additional 40GB.

Nokia launches 500 Auto Navigation system

Nokia launches 500 Auto Navigation system

Nokia has launched its 500 Auto Navigation system, making it the second of such systems to come out from the Finnish cellphone manufacturer. Not only does it provide you with instructions on getting to your destination in the fastest time possible, the 500 Auto Navigation is also a comprehensive handsfree, Bluetooth-enabled solution that allows you to carry on your conversations without having to take your hands off the wheel. The 4.3" color display is large enough for you to scroll through your contacts in order to make and receive calls, while the inclusion of Digital Signal Processing provides crystal clear audio for every conversation. The Nokia 500 Auto Navigation is tipped to arrive in Europe sometime in Q4 2007 for approximately $410.

360 Degree Speaker

360 Degree Speaker

What you see here might actually look like a crystal trophy of some sort, but upon closer inspection you would realize that it is actually a collection of a dozen speakers in a single device, offering a non-directional 360 degree sound field. Basically, you can now position this set of speakers virtually anywhere without having to perform measurements that audiophiles do. Then again, audiophiles won't settle for something as casual as this. In any case, the 360 Degree Speaker remains a concept designed by Emanuele Patton & Michele Menescardi that will definitely be a conversation starter in any home.

Tie Clip MP3 player concept

Tie Clip MP3 player concept

The Tie Clip MP3 player concept not only offers you the ability to put on a tie in the fastest manner possible, it even provides you with some audio entertainment as you sit through the long commute. Designed by Jin Woo Han, it comes with a single line LCD that allows you to flash a short message to all and sundry. Other features include basic navigation controls and some flash memory inside. I still wonder what's the relevancy of wearing ties as it serves no real practical purposes, instead it gives you the added risk of getting strangled to death should your tie actually get caught between the doors of a moving bus or train.
