There is quite the handful of Windows Phone 7-powered devices that have already received their first major update to NoDo, but do bear in mind that a bunch of smartphone owners out there have yet to see the light of day for the NoDo update on their respective handsets. AT&T seemed to have forgotten about the HTC Surround when it comes to this update, but word on the grapevine has it that the update will be out in mid-May – that is around a fortnight from now, albeit without any particular or specific date just yet.

Earlier this morning, we brought you breaking news that Verizon Wireless? 4G LTE service did undergo a nationwide outage – which was quite a slap to the face of a company with the motto “Rule the Air”, don’t you think so? Originally, the Samsung Droid Charge – a 4G LTE device was meant to roll out tomorrow at Verizon Wireless stores, so with what had just happened, that looks as though Verizon will be making a U-turn on the decision. Having contacted Verizon Wireless spokesperson Brenda Raney, this is what she had to say about the situation.
We are aware of an issue with 4G LTE data connections and our network engineers are working to resolve this quickly. We have determined the cause of our issue and are working with our major vendors to restore connections.

Some folks who’ve been playing around with the leaked Windows 8 beta have discovered even more examples of the Metro UI being used in the operating system. We all knew that Windows 8 was designed for tablets as well as PCs, but so we haven’t really seen too many elements of its tablet UI design. Well the folks over at windows8beta.com have discovered a way to launch the system settings menu that is displayed in Metro UI, allowing users to modify the settings of the operating system as if it was being used on a tablet.
It’s kind of odd to see the Metro UI being used with a mouse, and you can tell that it’s really been designed for tablets ? there’s even the option to enable GPS, which is obviously not present in desktop computers. Hit the break to watch a video of the Windows 8 settings menu:

According to a recent report published by DigiTimes, we’re going to see Android devices take over the world. They’ve reported that a number of handset manufacturers are rushing to get some low-end devices onto the market (sub $150 phones). Digitimes has predicted that 20-25 million of these low-end phones will be sold this year alone ? ten times more than last year’s 2.5-3 million phones sold. The reason for this jump in sales is that the low-end Android market hasn’t really been exploited yet ? all this time, manufacturers have been fighting over the high-end handset market.
