BMW ConnectedDrive reads aloud your social
network updates

Drinking (alcohol) and driving do not mix, and another element that does not jive with driving includes speaking on your phone or checking up on emails, text messages and social network updates. BMW intends to safeguard the driver and occupants from any mishaps by working with text-to-speech specialists Nuance so that you can keep abreast of what’s happening to your social networks without having to divide your eye’s attention equally between the phone’s screen and the road.

Lightsabers used for train railings in Japan

We all know what a huge success the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray release was, and the Force is certainly strong all over the globe. Even those living in the Land of the Rising Sun is not spared (which is a good thing), where the boxset hit Japan slightly more than a week ago. In order to promote the release of this unique boxset, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment Japan put on their thinking caps and came up with this uber cool campaign that runs on Tokyo?s trains – by making the train?s railings look like life-size lightsabers.

How’s that for immersion? I must say that this is genius use of promotional real estate, where it is guaranteed to generate banter amongst the rush hour crowd, and audiences will be flooded with nothing but Star Wars images wherever they look during their daily commute to and from work.

What are the other kinds of advertising campaigns that you think would work great for an already famous movie franchise like Star Wars?

Play Unchartered 3: Drakes Deception in 3D first

Early adopters are risk takers – they either end up with something that’s fantastic, or the product is gimped in so many ways till Sunday that others who waited heaved a huge sigh of relief. Well, when it comes to games, you can be sure that some titles just ooze with quality, and I would say that Unchartered 3: Drake’s Deception is a surefire winner from the get go. For those who want to give the game a go before everyone else, and in 3D glory, you can do so from October 18th to 20th by making your way towards five AMC Theatre locations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, and Washington D.C.

You will be able to feast on Unchartered 3: Drake?s Deception on a big screen and in 3D glory to boot – before anyone else are able to savor it. This 3 day event will include multiplayer tournaments, PlayStation and Sony prize giveaways all night long, and Naughty Dog appearances amongst others.

Tickets will be available in limited supply – $25 will net you a general admission, while $60 will see you grab an Unchartered 3 Premium Pass which includes a copy of the game itself, plus shipping. Sounds steep? I’d say hit the $60 Premium Pass which is far more worth it.

Symbian Belle concepts provide a visual feast

Concept devices are always cool – simply because they are not bound by current laws of physics or manufacturing. Throw in as many features as you like into a super svelte chassis, and the concept will still work like a charm. I don’t suppose that should Nokia follow the designs of these concepts of Symbian Belle phones, they would definitely do better in the market than they are at the moment.

It can be rather frustrating though, to know that such beauties of a device are not real or even close to being realized. What you see above could very well be an iPhone-inspired design, sporting a rectangle with curved corners.

For the full run out of the rest of the concepts, you might want to head on here. It is a Czech site, so make sure Google Translate works on your machine beforehand, otherwise, the YouTube videos should suffice. After all, doesn’t a picture speak a thousand words?

Splinter Cell Trilogy arrives on PS3

We humans are a nostalgic lot – otherwise, why do we maintain heritage sites, keep diaries, snap photos and record videos? When it comes to growing up, we tend to have had our fair share of favorite video games, never mind that they were played in 8-bit graphics back then – we had our imagination to rely on those pixelized worlds. Well, for the younger generation who grew up during the PS2 era, surely they would have heard of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory before? We’re glad to say that you can now play the role of Sam Fisher all over again with HD resolution graphics – and listen, even 3D.

Denied! Apples multi-touch trademark

Never mind that Apple is the most valuable company in the US – they still cannot have their way in everything, as the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has denied Apple the trademark for multi-touch technology, claiming that the term ?multitouch? has taken on generic meaning. In more simple terms, this means plenty of other people use it to describe just how touchscreen technology is evident on a slew of other devices apart from Apple’s own range, including Android and Windows smartphones, tablets, and notebooks.

Sprint to keep unlimited data plans

Great news for Sprint users ? if you’ve got any fears about the carrier getting rid of your unlimited data plan, you’ve got nothing to worry about. At least that’s what Sprint’s Chief Technology Officier, Stephen Bye, said when he addressed the crowd at GigaOm’s Mobilize conference in San Francisco today. While its main competitors like Verizon and AT&T slashing their unlimited plans and introducing tiered data plans, Sprint remains the only one in the “big four” that remains unfazed.

CM Storm Trooper Computer Case

Most computer enthusiasts have only a single card in their systems: the video card. That being true, most of us could easily get by with a micro ATX motherboard in a small form factor case. But there are those who have multiple video cards, or water cooling setups with separate reservoirs and pumps; who have lots of hard drives and 5.25 bay devices, or need an XL-ATX motherboard to run a triple or quad video card system. They may represent a tiny section of the market, but they need a full tower case, and Cooler Master's shown before they're willing to address this need with cases like their HAF series. In this review, Benchmark Reviews looks at their latest full tower effort: the Cooler Master Storm Trooper.

ViewSonic announces PLED-W200 and PLED-W500
portable LED projectors

ViewSonic PLED-W500ViewSonic has just announced the launch of two projectors in its new portable LED projector line: the PLED-W200 and PLED-W500. Designed for folks on the go i.e. travelling business men, on-the-road presenters, the projectors feature a 20,000 hour-long lamp life and packs 3D-ready capabilities (I guess for those downtimes when you’re not presenting and want to just kick back and watch some 3D movies in your hotel). The projectors even contain USB ports, SD card readers and the PLED-W500 even packs 1GB of onboard internal memory for content storage purposes, and presenting without the use of a computer.

The projectors both support WXGA resolution, which makes them ideal for 720p HD content. The PLED-W500 has HDMI connectivity for your Blu-ray players, tablets, smartphones and gaming consoles. The PLED-W200 and PLED-W500 will both be available mid-October with estimated street prices of $499 and $699 respectively.
