Magic Stick Smart Pen

HTC Flyer has their own HTC Scribe “magic pen”, so to speak, and whether the masses find that appealing or not really depends on what their preferences are. DinoDirect.com on the other hand, has just introduced their new Magic Stick Smart Pen that will target the iPad,  iPhone, computers and netbooks, delivering the benefits of a digital pen alongside having full flash memory capabilities. Hmmm, this is starting to sound promising…

Imagine what you can do with this – drawing your favorite images on your tablet using a graphics editing software, writing anywhere on regular paper so that the device will capture and store your work in real time in its flash memory, while the included My Script Notes 3.0 will let you convert all handwritten information into text, although we have yet to see the success rate of the conversion.

Nothing exactly groundbreaking and new, but at least this one comes with iPad and iPhone support compared to other models that were released by different manufacturers in the past. Powered by a 1.5 V battery, it has an effective wireless range of 10 meters, and will retail a few pennies short of $100. [Press Release]

Cooler Master Silencio 550 tower case loves
shacking up with librarians

Silence is golden, which is why manufacturers of some hardware tout the silence of their devices as part of the deal. Well, Cooler Master, a veteran in churning out PC cases and chassis for the masses, has another tower in the making that will have those who treasure silence lvoe it – the aptly named Silencio 550. Merging style and smoothness, with strength and stealth, Cooler Master’s Silencio 550 has one main strength – the barely detectable murmur at which it runs. This is made possible thanks to silencing foam that insulates the entire machine on both sides, deadening the slight reverberations of the fans and the whirrs and clicks of hard drives (which of course, shouldn’t be a problem if you’re using SSDs inside).

Apple files and drops lawsuit against white
iPhone 4 kit-selling teen

White iPhone 4 kit

Remember the white iPhone 4 kits we featured awhile ago? Yes the ones even Steve Wozniak himself was famous for purchasing. Last year it was rumored that Apple would be taking action against the 17 year old boy, Fei Lam, for his crimes. Today, it has been reported that Apple did in fact take action against him ? and his family for encouraging the activity. But It was also reported that a voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit was filed by Apple, putting an end to the lawsuit, which means there must have been a settlement out of court.

It hasn’t been made publicly known what Lam gave up to settle the case, but prior to the settlement, Apple requested a permanent injunction preventing Lam and his family from any sales, forfeiture of all profits from the sales of the white iPhone parts, reimbursement for legal expenses, and additional financial retribution. While we all know that Apple doesn’t really need the money from Fei Lam, this lawsuit was probably to set an example of what Apple will do ? regardless if you’re a minor or not; to put second thoughts into the heads of would-be criminals against Apple. What do you think about the whole issue? In your own opinion, was it handled fairly?

eBay and PayPal to sue Google with Google Wallet
launch

eBay and their own payment subsidiary, PayPal, did not greet Google’s most recent introduction, Google Wallet, with open arms. No sir, they instead followed up the launch by going straight to the courts – suing Google and a couple of executives for allegedly stealing trade secrets so that Google Wallet can be created. Google Wallet’s project lead Osama Bedier has been accused of feeding confidential PayPal information to Google so that it can develop the NFC mobile payment system, in addition to having former eBay executive Stephanie Tilenius not honor a contract by having her join Google as its VP of commerce in February 2010, which is a full month before she was actually done with a consulting contract with eBay. Bedier was also alleged to have participated in several attempts to poach PayPal employees while he was still at Google.

HTC backtracks on locked bootloader policy

We did cover news that HTC might just review the locked bootloader policy after HTC fans who are involved in the homebrew scene used the power of social networking to get the attention of the top brass at HTC to consider their request. Not too long after that, such pressure has actually caused something to happen – with HTC CEO Peter Chou using HTC’s Facebook page to decree that all future devices from the hardware manufacturer will be open, no two ways about it. Below is what the Facebook post had to say concerning the situation.

?”There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we’ve listened. Today, I’m confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

No Spotify within Facebook, lacks a couple more
record labels

We reported yesterday that Spotify is teaming up with Facebook to launch a new music service (that seems to be a pretty popular way to make money these days), but here is news that something like that won’t happen – not at least two more record labels agree to jump aboard the bandwagon, of course. There won’t be any Spotify within Facebook until that happens. Why so? Read on to find out.

iRacing virtual Indy 500 finals to be streamed
live online and on jumbo-tron screens

iRacing.com Indy 500

As we approach the finals of this year’s Indy 500 race, another subset of racers are gearing up to step into the track as well ? albeit virtually. iRacing.com has announced  that its annual online Indy 500 racing competition will be broadcasted on the big screen this year. Keyboard racers back at home have a shot of being a superstar beyond the confines of their own bedrooms or circle of friends.

The iRacing game Indy 500 game that has the Indy track modeled after the 2.5mile oval track at Indianapolis is touted to be an accurate recreation of the real thing. In the words of iRacing’s marketing manager Otto Szebeni, the track is within two millimeters of the real track.

Sony PlayStation 4 confirmed, is in the works

Despite all the problems and troubles that Sony has gone through recently, those have certainly not derailed the company’s plans to usher in a next generation console for the masses – we are talking about the PlayStation 4 – as it was confirmed by Sony executive vice president and chief financial officer Masaru Kato during a conference call recently. The PS4 is in the pipeline, and this news could be used to counter Nintendo’s confirmation of its upcoming gaming console known as “Project Cafe” that will be revealed at E3 2011 in June.

Apple iCloud music service scans and mirrors
iTunes libraries

Word has been going around that Apple’s rumored streaming music service will be able to scan users’ iTunes libraries, mirroring them in the cloud – but at a price, of course. Bloomberg BusinessWeek reports that folks who have been briefed on talks between Apple and the music labels know that Apple has obtained new licenses for its iCloud service, where they have the permission to mirror individual iTunes music collections on its servers. Not only that, Apple will go the extra mile and replace low-quality music files stored on users’ hard drives with higher-quality versions that are available on its servers, how’s that for a bonus?

This convenience won’t be free though, and label executives are already negotiating aggressively for profits in the cloud. There are no further specific details on the pricing structure, but Stone and Fixmer do speculate that Apple could bundle streaming music services into its MobileMe revamp that currently costs a dollar shy of a hundred bucks annually. Would you pay more money for this kind of convenience? The prospect of getting higher quality versions does sound good, we admit.
