Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx Unboxing, Hands-on

The Droid RAZR Maxx is up for sale (and already back-ordered, we’ve heard), but one has made its way to our office. And here’s a video to show you what’s in the box, and more importantly, what the phone looks like in the real world. The first impression is good: although thicker than the original RAZR 4G, the RAZR Maxx is still very thin by any standards, especially if you compare it with modern phones like the iPhone 4S or the Galaxy Nexus. It feels as heavy as the Galaxy Nexus LTE, which is its main competitor in my opinion. Now, the real question is: how does it perform with its enormous 3300mAh battery? We’ll publish the complete review, but so far, the battery life has been impressive – for an LTE phone of course, but also in absolute terms. This is looking good. Very good.

Samsung has reported that its quarterly earnings have soared, thanks to record sales of the Galaxy line of smartphones. In the end, Samsung’s profit has gone up by 76% year over year, and up 25% quarter to quarter. Both figures are impressive, and show that, as the only company that can clearly stand up to Apple, Samsung has benefited from the explosive growth of mobile devices.
In the end, Samsung reported a $4.7 profit for the fourth quarter and wowed to increase its R&D expenses by 9% to continue advancing its products at a rapid pace. It is not clear whether Samsung can retain its “top smartphone manufacturer” title from the previous quarter as Apple has announced a surge in iPhone sales, but with the Samsung Galaxy S3 just around the corner, the year 2012 is probably going to be a busy one for Samsung.

Google Earth is a huge database of satellite photos and 3d polygonal models, and if you have used it before, you may have noticed that each tile (section of satellite/aerial photo) may have different colors/tones.
