ZBoard electric skateboard to get custom models

video details and more

We talked about the ZBoard electric skateboard late last month, and here we are with additional information concerning this futuristic skateboard that will burn far less calories for you while getting you to your destination without having to break a sweat at times, literally. Originally introduced at CES 2012 and picking up the ?DEMO God Award? at the 2012 VentureBeat Demo Conference which happened in early April, the ZBoard electric skateboard will be able to ferry you for up to 10 miles on a full charge, with the ability to hit a top speed of 17 miles per hour. No idea if that sustained speed would translate to a 10 mile range still though, but pre-orders have already opened from $499 upwards, with shipping set to commence later this summer. (more…)

Facebook launches Antivirus Marketplace

Facebook might have won some folks sitting on the fence as to whether this is a company that is “evil” or not (as to the definition of evil, I will leave that to you entirely), as the social networking giant has just rolled out an Antivirus Marketplace which will enable users to download a six-month free trial of software from the participating companies. At this point in time, McAfee, Norton, Microsoft, Sophos, and Trend Micro have come together under the Antivirus Marketplace initiative, and it would be interesting to see just which company would benefit the most in the long run. Who do you think will have the most downloads, and out of that figure, how many will make the switch to a full license once the trial period is over? (more…)

Max Payne Mobile for Android to be released next
week

They say that good things come to those who wait, although it is not everyone’s cup of tea to be able to own the necessary amount of patience required for a game. Max Payne Mobile has had its release date for the Android platform pegged to April 26th which is today, but late yesterday, Rockstar Games mentioned over their Twitter feed that Max Payne Mobile for Android has been delayed, and will only be released to the market sometime next week – “or so”, in their own words, which might mean later than that as well. The reason behind this delay? “Some last testing required to make sure we can get Max Payne Mobile on as many Android devices as possible ? thx for your patience!”, is the response from Rockstar Games. I guess when it comes to games, it is always better to wait for a fully working version without rushing for an early release which is gimped in many ways.

SmartTalk Solar hands-free speakerphone goes
green

Griffin Technology has just announced the SmartTalk Solar, which is a handsfree solar-charged speakerphone that will target smartphone owners. It makes sense, really, considering how many of us do receive or even need to make a phone call while we are behind the wheel, which means going the hands-free way is the right and safe method of getting around it. With the SmartTalk Solar, the name itself gives the game away, as this particular peripheral will draw on the power of the sun so that you can continue with your conversation without having to take your hands off the wheel. Robot guides in South Korean museum

South Korea and Japan are two countries in the world where advanced robots do play an important role in everyday life, at least across far more incidences compared to other countries elsewhere on the map. There is a museum in Daegu, South Korea, which has just rolled out a pilot program that boasts of a couple of guide robots. Previously developed for Seoul?s Museum of Natural History by Corebell, one of the robots measure up to 120cm in height, tipping the scales at 60kg and is capable of getting around by itself on a 2-wheel drive system at speeds of up to 20 meters per minute. Some of the hardware features available to help it be mobile and independent include a camera, a dozen ultrasonic range sensors, 12 pressure sensors, a gyroscopic sensor, and in-door GPS to help it gain its bearing. With a battery life of half a dozen hours before recharging, this robot will help guide visitors through a permanent exhibit, and is capable of being part of robot-themed classes held at the museum. Netgear R6300 is first 802.11ac Wi-Fi router in
the world

What makes the Netgear R6300 so special compared to the other Wi-Fi routers that are in the market? First off the list would be the obvious certification – it is touted to be the world’s first 802.11ac Wi-Fi router, offering support for 5th generation (5G) Wi-Fi, and it will also not cut off its roots with the past by being backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n standards. Underneath the hood, you will find Broadcom’s 5G Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11ac chips, and Netgear claims that their latest addition to the market is up to three times compared to today’s 802.11n routers. On paper, the R6300 is more than capable of achieving speeds of up to 1300Mbps on 5GHz and 450Mbps on 2.4GHz, and will also be chock-full of features including ReadySHARE printer support, DLNA, parental controls, automatic Wi-Fi security, AirPrint support, advanced Quality of Service (QoS), and IPv6 support amongst others. Those who are interested to jump into the future, strap on and enjoy the ride this May as the Netgear R6300 arrives with a $200 price tag. [Press Release]
