OK, so it might be a bit of stretch to take the words from Star Wars III to depict the Huawei Honor smartphone as (still) Chancellor Palpatine squared off with Jedi Master Mace Windu, delivering the killing blow of Force Lighting after Windu had an amputation procedure performed by Anakin Skywalker, but I could not help myself since its 1,900mAh battery is its main selling point.
Huawei claims up to 3 days of use on a single charge, making it boast the longest battery life among smartphones that fall under the 4″ display category. Of course, the context in which a phone is used plays a huge role in determining the battery life, but I do hope to get hold of a unit to find out for myself. Hardware-wise, the Huawei Honor comes with a 1.4GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera at the back that does HD video recording as well, a 2-megapixel camera up front, all crammed into a body that is 10.9mm thin while tipping the scales at 140 grams.
It will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity thrown into the mix, accompanied by 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, a microSD memory card slot, a micro USB 2.0 port, 3G support, and run on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. No idea on pricing just yet , but expect it to come in just one color ala Ford Model T – as it arrives in China, Russia and the Middle East at the end of this year.

SAM Firmware alongside some of those who were involved in the DarkyROM have stepped forward with a rather interesting titbit of news – we’re talking about a leaked version of Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread that sports a build date of September 15th, and this particular ROM is meant for the Samsung Galaxy S2. Interestingly enough, most of the Galaxy S2 units out there, if not all, still run on Android 2.3.3 and are still waiting for version 2.3.4 of the operating system.
This latest leak will also go by firmware version is I9100XXKI3, which has been translated to European version 3 which was dated September 15th. Obviously, if you think that you have the guts to go for this leaked ROM, make sure you perform a backup of all your important data as you can never tell when it might just go all wonky during and after the installation process.
After all, just because something has been proved to work does not mean it is 100% foolproof – you would do better to wait for the actual update from official sources. Anyways, if you are patient enough, then you can see Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread arrive for the Galaxy S2 in due time via an Over-The-Air (OTA) update.

It seems that the owners of Cava 22 have something which the SFPD are interested in – surveillance footage in the bar where an Apple employee allegedly lost an unreleased iPhone a few months ago. The SFPD has requested the permission of Cava 22′s owners to review the bar’s surveillance footage, and it will most probably be an internal police probe that will look into how officers helped Apple in looking for the missing handset.

It was not too long ago when Google Drive was spotted in some additions which were made to the code in Chromium (not the operating system just in case some get confused – it is the open source browser behind Chrome) that pointed towards the possibility of Google Drive being launched sometime down the road. Shortly after that, additional proof might nudge that closer from rumor to realization, as eagle-eyed social media consultant, Johannes Wigand, saw an interesting screen during a presentation at a Google-sponsored event which clearly resembled Google Drive.

Add to myYahoo! The Higher Environment Study Satellite (UARS) is likely to crash to Earth today. The HTC Amaze 4G is also known as the HTC Ruby in certain quarters, and while nothing really concrete or clear of the smartphone was spotted, here is the first set of leaked press shots that is accompanied by a list of specifications so that you know what you’re getting before throwing your lot in with the Amaze 4G.
It is rumored to come with a 4.3″ qHD display (at 960 x 540 resolution)that certainly does its bit to keep up with the Joneses, while you certainly won’t find speed lacking thanks to a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. That will definitely be aided by throwing in 1GB RAM, while an 8-megapixel camera is located at the back to capture memories on the go. It seems as though CellphoneSignal who obtained the leaked press shots claim that this will replace the myTouch 4G, which is rather strange since the Amaze 4G has no myTouch branding, although the design could come close.
Fancy making video calls? That should not be a problem with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, while you have Android 2.3 Gingerbread running right out of the box, not to mention Bluetooth 3.0 and HSPA+ connectivity. No idea on how much it will cost, but expect it to cozy up to high end models.

Mango has arrived…on the Arrive. OK, so that might be a wee bit lame, but at least it signals the end of the weekend, and a brand new work week is about to start. Someone spotted a HTC Arrive that had Windows Phone Mango running on it at a Las Vegas Sprint store. This is certainly a wee bit early considering Sprint customers are said to start receiving their Windows Phone Mango update sometime next week, while AT&T and Verizon have thrown their hat into the ring with a September 27th update.

We covered a leaked story about the Motorola Droid RAZR more than a week ago, and here is further confirmation that the purported smartphone is very real. It is interesting to see Motorola venture back into RAZR territory – after all, they were more or less a victim of their own success with the entire RAZR fatigue setting in, as phone after phone released post-RAZR failed to live up to expectations. At least the Droid was a turning point for Motorola, and to see them merge the two names together evokes a tingle in my spine.

Just to prove a point that not everyone on this planet is waiting for the iPhone 5 which is slated to arrive early next month, here is news that Samsung’s Galaxy S2 has already broken the 10 million mark in terms of global sales. Of course, haters would say that this is because the new Galaxy S2 owners have not given the iPhone a chance, but that’s another story for a different day.
This figure is special since it has doubled up in just 8 weeks – prior to that, the Galaxy S2 sold 5 million units when it was launched in Europe alone, and to see the handset arrive Stateside on Sprint (with AT&T and T-Mobile in the pipeline), you can bet your bottom (and appreciating) dollar that the Galaxy S2 is going to sell much more.
Here’s to the next 5 million, Samsung – good luck and it is interesting to see just how it will pan out in the upcoming battle with the iPhone 5. Are you one of those who is rooting for the Galaxy S2, or are you clearly entrenched in the iPhone camp?
