It sure looks like we’ll be seeing the LG Spectrum 2 very soon. After appearing at the FCC and then appearing as a render online, the phone has now shown up on Verizon’s CelleBrite system. Still no word on a release date, but you can bet that Verizon will be making it official pretty soon. The LG Spectrum 2 is the successor to the first Spectrum on Verizon and will feature a 4.7″ True IPS 720p display, a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, 4G LTE connectivity, and global roaming. Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted when we find out more. Anybody looking forward to this phone?

Add to myYahoo! We previously covered a new scanner that can recognize objects by its appearances, eschewing the need for barcodes. Well, the folks over at Brain Corporation have decided to take it a step further with a new system that can detect baked goods. Because baked goods are made by hand and can vary in appearance, the system has been designed to factor in such problems. In addition to recognizing baked goods, it can also be used to identify any other object in the store.
The system is currently being tested at a bakery outlet in Tokyo, Japan; and if all goes well it should roll out to more places soon. Check out a video of the system in action above, courtesy of Diginfo. Pretty impressive stuff.

There’s no doubt that Google’s Nexus 7 is one of the hottest tablets to ever hit the market this year. Of course, this is not just mere speculation. Just a few days ago, we said that the 16GB variant of the Jelly Bean tablet has been labeled as “coming soon” due to its strong demand. That appears to be true as well in the U.K. as it has been out of stock. If you’re looking forward to get the official case of the Nexus 7 tablet via Google Play, you’ll probably have to wait a little longer because of its “coming soon” status.
But we are now hearing reports that a few sellers on eBay are already selling the official case at an unofficial price. Interestingly, one seller was able to seal a deal for $100 – that’s five times more than its price of $19.99 in the Google Play Store. Another seller is holding up the Nexus 7 case for $54, although the bid could change abruptly. So if you are short of patience, you might want to join the bid here.

If you’ve been on the internet long enough and watched a fair share of YouTube videos, you’ll probably recognize the name Epic Meal Time. In case you have no clue – Epic Meal Time is a YouTube cooking show that features extremely high-calorie meals that usually contain a lot of bacon and Jack Daniel’s. The show gained a cult following after exploding on the internet and the Epic Meal Time crew have even been involved in huge events like last year’s Comic Con San Diego. Well, if you think that they’re long overdue for an iOS/Android app – you’re right, but it looks like we won’t have to wait for one anymore.

Now that Apple has launched OS X Mountain Lion, Microsoft is confirming that its two Office productivity suite versions for Mac – Office for Mac 2011 and Office 2008 for Mac – are up and ready to support what Apple calls as “the world’s most advanced desktop operating system“. Over at Microsoft’s Office for Mac blog, the team behind the productivity suite is asking Office for Mac users to have the AutoUpdate feature enabled, as it will be needed to make the most of the upgrades to Mountain Lion.
To do this, you can enable AutoUpdate in any Office for Mac application by going to the toolbar, then selecting ?Help? and then ?Check for Updates.? Microsoft notes that Mountain Lion is outfitted with a new feature called Gatekeeper that helps protect users by allowing them to download and install software from known developers. To keep your Office for Mac updated, Microsoft is recommending that you use Microsoft AutoUpdate, since the updates will not be able to run when you download them on your desktop. Cheers!

The rate at which technology advances is pretty impressive. While we now have 3D printers for simple objects, it looks like we’ll be able to do so much more in the future. Professor Lee Cronin, a leader of a world-class team of 45 researchers at Glasgow University wants to take things to another level: a computer that could print out any drug we need. The printer (or “chemputer”) would use simple reagents as its “inks”. These reagents, when combined in the right conditions and quantity will form the more complex chemicals that form the drugs we want.
Imagine not having to leave the house to pick up some drugs – just load up a prescription into the machine and print your medication from your desk. Or how about obtaining drugs not available in your country? Instead of paying for expensive shipping and waiting for it to arrive, you’ll be able to make the drugs you want at home or in a hard to reach location. A pretty interesting idea, though we expect it’d be many years before we see such a machine in existence. Read more about the chemputer at the source link below.

If you’ve ever played DayZ, the multiplayer open world survival horror video game, then probably this report will interest you. A certain DayZ player who goes by the name SinisterPrime reportedly got some really bad customer service experience from a tech support representative at Defcon Servers. The gamer apparently purchased a server from Defcon Servers to host a DayZ game with his friends. Unknown to him, the server that he bought required 40 players to operate, so he contacted the support team to inquire about a refund.
SinisterPrime claims that the tech support was very rude and said that he was too dumb to know the requirements. Later, the gamer reportedly received an email from Defcon Servers that allegedly threatened him saying, “So you want to play games you little shit? How about I post your home address and personal details all over the internet? Would that make you happy? Watch who you fuck with. I will make it so every criminal in your state has your address.” Thankfully, Defcon Servers caught wind of the story and issued a public apology on the DayZ forums. The company also said that it has fired the “disgruntled” tech support representative and is now considering pressing charges due to his borderline criminal comments.

If you’re waiting to watch TV series like True Blood, Entourage or Game of Thrones on Netflix, you’d better stop holding your breath. On Tuesday, Netflix raised the possibility of teaming up with HBO in a letter to its shareholders. However, before any discussions have even begun – it looks like that won’t be happening anytime soon. HBO announced today that they are in no discussions and have no plans to work with Netflix.
Seeing how HBO’s own streaming service, HBO GO is a direct competitor to Netflix, it was an unlikely partnership in the first place. But I guess one could always hope? It looks like TV viewers who want to stream shows like Girls or The Sopranos will still have to maintain their HBO GO subscription or obtain them in another way. Any of you upset about not having HBO movies and TV shows on Netflix?

Nokia seems to have a lot of promotional tie-ins with its Nokia Lumia phones. Not too long ago the company was promoting the Lumia 900 with The Dark Knight Rises movie, and now it looks like they’re at it again with a limited edition Lumia 610. This time in conjunction with Quiksilver, the phone isn’t vey different from the original Lumia 610 – you just get 20 Quiksilver wallpapers, a different rear case and the Quiksilver logo on the front of your phone.
I can’t see anyone but hardcore Quiksilver fans picking up this device, but it probably won’t arrive on this side of the world. Anyway, it’s a limited edition device so it’ll probably move units regardless. After all, nothing screams “pick me up!” louder than a limited edition of anything. Check out this promo video for the phone below:
