LG plasma TV hits high contrast ratio

LG plasma TV hits high contrast ratio LG has just launched its new full HD G Platform plastma TV display that boasts an extremely high contrast ratio of 30,000 to 1 - double that of the current highest existing ratio. This means you get exceptionally true colors (to tell you the truth, my eyes aren't that sensitive and I seriously don't think that the additional dough forked out is worth the lively colors you get - the law of diminishing returns are at work here) across the entire spectrum with a 20% reduced reflection rate. These new G Platform plasma TV panels will be available in 32", 42" and 50" HD models while those looking for the full HD experience will be able to choose from 50" and 60" models. No word on pricing of these new plasma panels, but they will be available from Q4 2007 onwards.

NEC unveils new LCD technology

NEC unveils new LCD technology

For those who hate folks watching over your shoulder while you're working, chances are you'll be thankful that NEC has developed a new kind of LCD technology that allows users to switch between wide and narrow viewing angles on-the-fly without affecting the brightness and sharpness of the image. This is made possible courtesy of a polarizing plate at the back of the new panel that disperses light across either 140 degrees or 30 degrees - something older methods could not achieve without impacting the picture negatively. Currently, such technology allows only two possible fields of vision, and NEC hopes to be more flexible with future iterations.

Envision 2016wa LCD monitor

Envision 2016wa LCD monitor

Envision's 2016wa LCD monitor aims to add the word "affordable" to 20" monitors for those who still find these prices a tad too high. You get a 1,680 x 1,050 native resolution, a contrast ratio of 3,000 to 1, and a response time of 5ms that is suitable for the occasional video game or movie. You have the choice of five different modes of operation for different environments, including Eco Mode that helps save power consumption during use. For $239.99, you also get an HDCP-compatible DVI-D input that allows you to hook it up to cable and satellite boxes, turning it into a small TV as well. If you're on a budget, there really isn't much to complain about the G2016wa.

Dell XPS One sneak peek

Dell XPS One sneak peek The Dell XPS One was designed to go up against the iMac and Gateway One (what's with the "One" naming convention anyways), featuring a 22" WSXGA (that's 1,680 x 1,050 resolution) display complete with integrated speakers (meh) and media buttons on the side. In addition, you get a built-in webcam for easy teleconferencing while a slot-loading Blu-ray disc burner helps you get your entertainment game on. The XPS One is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz processor, 4GB RAM and ATI's Mobility Radeon HD 2400, and boasts a Windows Vista Sideshow LCD that allows users to play music, view photos, and track basic information via gadgets without turning the system on. I am speculating that the XPS One will see a price tag of $2,000 or more.

Samsung F700 heads for Verizon

The highly anticipated Samsung F700 looks set to to makes its way to Verizon users in the near future, and other than that interesting snippet of news, no further details were released and Samsung officials could not be reached for an official comment. Hopefully the F700 will make it in time to appear in my Christmas stocking, as I would love to get my hands on a full touchscreen display complete with a fold-out QWERTY keyboard to send holiday greetings to my family and friends faster than ever before.

MSI GX600 gaming notebook

MSI GX600 gaming notebook Remember the "Turbo" button found in older x86 computers? Those were really fun to use, and great for slowing down shoot 'em ups whenever you're caught in a hail of seemingly impossible-to-avoid bullets. The MSI GX600 gaming notebook takes a leaf out of that era, featuring one-touch overclocking that helps you achieve a 20% increase in processor speed each time it is pressed. While such a feature could be done via software, the very idea of a "Turbo" button makes it all the more appealing. The GX600 weighs 6.6 pounds and will come in two flavors - the MSI GX600 Extreme Edition and the MSI GX600 Performance Edition. No word on pricing are available, but you can check out the rest of its specifications after the jump.

New iPod remote control

New iPod remote control

The iPod boasts one of the most intuitive control schemes around for a portable media player, but what happens when you're too occupied with the task at hand in order to control it? Ergo Electronics has come up with an ingenious solution that targets the active iPod user, bringing quick access without distracting you from your current activity. I like the way it straps over the ridge between the thumb and index finger, giving convenient access to your music on-the-fly. No idea on how much it costs though, but you can badger the email address and phone number there for additional details.
