Every year since 1993 in the US, there’s a massive hacker convention called DEFCON. It is an event that hackers from all over the world attend to hang out, participate in activities and increase their knowledge on the subject of hacking. It is usually filled with adults; many of whom are computer security professionals, journalists, crackers, cyber-criminals, security researchers, and of course, hackers.

At the VH1 Save the Music Foundation event last night, Pioneer DJ showed of some specially designed turntables that were created by celebrities as part of the Art Mix program. Artists, DJs and designers were each given a Pioneer CDJ-2000 digital music player to come up with their own creations. The turntables will then be exhibited at events nationwide this summer, and then they will be eventually auctioned off online. All the proceeds will go to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation.

The Motorola Droid 3 was launched in China last week, but there was no word about its availability on this side of the world. But thanks to the folks at Droid Attic, we should be expecting an official announcement soon. The blog managed to get hold of a photograph showing Verizon’s inventory system, and in it the In-Stock date for the Droid 3, it is clearly stated: “7/13/2011″. This means that the phone should be on sale June 14th ? which isn’t too far away. Time to start saving up!
And in case you didn’t know, the specs of the phone have been leaked previously and the phone will pack a dual-core processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 4″ qHD display, 5-row QWERTY keyboard, 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, front-facing camera, and 16GB internal storage. No word on pricing, but we should find out soon. Anybody excited for the Droid 3?

While HP’s 9.7″ TouchPad has yet to hit the stores (July 1st for those not in the know), it looks like the company already has a successor planned. According to reports from CENS.com, a Taiwanese Economics news website ? Inventec Corp, a major manufacturer of personal computers in Taiwan, has received orders from HP to start producing 400,000 to 450,000 TouchPad tablets. But in addition to the 9.7″ webOS 3.0 tablet, the company has also been reported to be supplying HP with a 7″ tablet that will be released in August.
No other details about the 7″ tablets were revealed, but it would be safe to assume that they would just be smaller versions of the TouchPad ? probably for users who don’t need the bulk of carrying a large tablet, but still want a display larger than their smartphones. If that turns out to be the case, will you be waiting for the 7″ tablet or will you be picking up the larger TouchPad when it drops next month?
