One of the more important components in your vehicle that enable it to start would be the row of spark plugs – once those are dirty, it will not only make it harder for your engine to start, but increase fuel consumption in the long run as well. What happens when there is a way for you to replace those spark plugs with something else? We’re talking about the use of lasers – not to zap aliens who are seated loftily in their respective UFOs, but rather, to form part of a laser ignition system as a primary method of igniting the fuel-air mix in engines to boost fuel efficiency while cutting down on carbon emissions.
The standard combustion engine would see the fuel-air mix is compressed by a piston followed by an ignition by a spark plug that is seated in the top of the cylinder. This spark will be generated by electricity that arcs between two electrodes, which makes it good enough to ignite fuel as well as limiting the kind of fuel which you can burn.

Former president and chairman of Sony, Norio Ohga, who is also the man behind the compact disc’s development, has died at the ripe old age of 81. Ohga actually led the company for more than a decade (1982 to 1995), and he passed away due to multiple organ failure in the Japanese capital, Tokyo. According to Sony’s chairman, Sir Howard Stringer, his predecessor’s foresight and vision had managed to transform the company into a global entertainment leader that it is today. Ohga still held the position of being a senior adviser to the company when he passed on.
First joining Sony in 1953, Ohga was recruited by Sony’s co-founders while he was still burning the midnight oil over at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, where he originally intended to pursue a career as an opera singer. According to Sony’s co-founders, they figured out that his knowledge of sound and electrical engineering would benefit the firm instead.

We do know that Android fragmentation is a very real problem, but then again that is what happens when you have an open ended eco-system that welcomes all and sundry to give it a go. Achieving is good balance isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do for sure, but we would go out on a limb to say that Google has done quite a good job when working in tandem with hardware manufacturers to make sure that their smartphones are more or less up to date.
With so many Android-powered phones these days sporting Android 2.2 Froyo, the big question is this – when will Android 2.3 Gingerbread become the staple diet instead of the softer Froyo? T-Mobile G2x (also known as the LG Optimus 2X) are in with a shout this time round as T-Mobile USA recently announced on Twitter that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will be here “sooner than you’d expect.”

Add to myYahoo!Happy Easter everyone! I hope you’re having a blast with your treasure hunt or doing whatever it is you’re doing to enjoy the weekend. If you purchased or received a new Nintendo 3DS (check out my review here) and are looking at it wondering what else can it do besides play 3D games, take 3D pics and play music, this little tidbit might pique your interest.
3DSFocus discovered a bunch of Easter eggs hidden within the 3DS. My favorite is probably the parakeet mimicking my voice in the 3DS Sound app. Go ahead and comb through the list. Which one is your favorite? Did you discover one that isn’t on the list? If you did, let us know down in the comments below.
Nintendo loves to hide fun little things inside of its systems and the 3DS is no exception.

Add to myYahoo!Lenovo’s joining the tablet wars! The folks at ThisIsMyNext just leaked Lenovo’s 10.1-inch screen ThinkPad Tablet. Details on the tablet are anything but scant: Android 3.0 Honeycomb, dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1280×800 capacitative IPS display, dual cameras (front and rear), 16/32/64GB storage, USB 2.0, Micro USB, mini HDMI port and an SD card slot. Wi-Fi and 3G models will also be available. A stylus and a keyboard dock can be connected as well.
All of that will be packed into a 1.6 pound body – quite light if you ask me. The leaked slide points to a target ship month of July for $499. For a tablet with so much going for it, it already sounds like a winner, but as most of us know, if it has a lousy battery, it’ll be dead on arrival.
Hopefully Lenovo will have Android 3.0 in better shape than the Xoom did.

As we enter the fourth day of Sony’s downtime with the PlayStation Network caused by an “external intrusion,” Sony issued an apology saying that it’s not only trying to bring the online service back up as soon as possible, but it’s also “rebuilding [PSN] to further strengthen [PlayStation's] infrastructure network.”
Here’s the official statement from the official PlayStation blog:
We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.
We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.
So there you go. When PSN goes back up, it should be rather fortified. Yeah, it’s the Easter holiday and PlayStation gamers can’t get online to frag each other. Doesn’t that just ruin a good weekend?
Here’s to hoping Sony resolves whatever issues are plaguing PSN quickly. Keen commenters have pointed out that a few years ago Xbox Live suffered from a two week outage. Comparatively, four days for a free service should be rather tolerable. Why not dust off those old board games or read a new book while Sony works to fix the issues?

It was bound to happen. BGR has photos of what is believed to be an prototype iPhone 4 (and white too!) running on T-Mobile USA’s 3G network. This isn’t an unlocked iPhone 4 job. Nope, if it wasn’t a bona-fide iPhone with the proper T-Mobile USA’s antennas, that little 3G would only display E for EDGE speed.
As BGR states, it is a bit late for Apple to be releasing an iPhone 4 on T-Mobile USA. It’s more likely that Apple is testing hardware to prepare for AT&T’s buyout of T-Mobile. If the merger does go through successfully without any issues, then dropping an iPhone that supports both AT&T and T-Mobile’s 3G would be very important.
Of course, Apple is always testing new stuff. It’d be foolish of them to ignore entire wireless networks. Even before the iPhone 4 landed on Verizon, it was discovered that Apple had been working with CDMA frequencies to test a possible CDMA iPhone. In the long run, an iPhone for every network in the U.S. is what Apple is shooting for.
While an iPhone 4 might not be coming out on T-Mobile USA just yet, it is a good sign of things to come. Perhaps they might get the iPhone 4S/5.

Add to myYahoo! When the T-Mobile G2x and two other Android OS gadgets debuted this week, I was there at a lavish event in New York City put on by T-Mobile to get some early hands-on time. The demoes included an extensive look at this Android smartphone’s HDMI mirroring-enabled video gaming. Although T-Mobile had embarked on online sales of the G2x the week before, the shindig in Manhattan on Wednesday coincided with the first-time physical presence of the new smartphone in T-Mobile stores nationwide.
