HTC Inspire 4G to receive HSUPA software upgrade

The HTC PC40210 could very well be the HD7S that we talked about earlier this week, as this potential Windows Phone 7-powered phone might soon be able to access AT&T’s 4G network because an FCC Permissive Change Notice that was filed by HTC has just been given the nod of approval. HTC intends to enable HSUPA functionality on the Inspire 4G (which is also known by the FCC ID NM8PD98120 in in FCC filings) via a software update. It has been a long and hard road, with HTC first submitting its Class II Change letter to enable HSUPA on the Inspire on March 8th, but it wasn’t until today that Test Reports for HSUPA functionality were submitted by HTC. Whatever the case is, HTC?s testing of HSUPA on the Inspire did run into some unexplained snags, but at least it seems as though the situation has been cleared, and one need not wait too much longer for 4G connectivity to arrive on the Inspire 4G.

iBUYPOWER Battalion 101 Sandy Bridge notebooks
unveiled

iBUYPOWER intends to spread more gamer love to the masses with three new Battalion 101 Sandy Bridge notebooks being announced. All three of them will feature the Intel Core i7-2630QM processor, and they are known by the model numbers Battalion 101 P151HM1, W150HNQ and W170HN with prices starting from $899 upwards. iBUYPOWER intends to dispel the thought that mobile gaming means making a sacrifice in terms of power, while dropping a whole lot of money at the same time compared to a desktop, since the new Sandy Bridge platform makes it very possible and affordable to release gaming notebooks that can handle just about anything you want to run (within reasonable limits, of course) without breaking the bank. For instance, the 15.6? iBUYPOWER Battalion 101 P151HM1 will feature the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M, 4GB DDR3 RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a 1920 x 1080 full HD display for $1,119. If you think that your eyes will not settle for anything less than 17″, then the Battalion 101 W170HN will fit the bill more or less, with a 17.3? 16:9 Full HD 1920 x 1080 display and the NVIDIA GeForce GT540M graphics card, starting from $1,019 upwards.

Solar panels integrated into touchscreen displays
is another gadget dream team

What are some of the gadget dream teams that you can think of? We just shared a story about solar panels being integrated into ordinary windows for Chicago’s Willis Tower, and the same idea has been transmuted to Greendix’s latest patented technology, that is, using their own custom shaped solar panel technology to be integrated into touchscreen displays. Imagine applying this technology across a slew of devices such as smartphones, tablets, GPS navigation systems, tablets, PDAs (anyone use those anymore?), ATM machines as well as public information kiosks. It doesn’t really matter what size the touchscreen display is, Greendix is quite confident of fitting in their tech regardless. Performance-wise, it is touted that a 9.7″ touchscreen display with integrated solar panels will add anywhere from 100mAh to 480mAh of battery time – sounds decent, and hopefully future advances will see it increase that margin by a mile (or two) without burning too large of a hole in the pocket of consumers. Now, to see who will take up the challenge of introducing hardware with Greendix tech inside…

UK iPad 2 Retailers To Close For One Hour Ahead
Of Launch

Apple shed some more light over the claimed delays in the delivery of the iPad 2 in the UK and in 24 other countries and argued that there was actually none. A spokesperson for the company confirmed to Channelweb that the release date and time was never pushed back and that “It is 5pm [local time] for all Apple Stores and retailers, which is exactly the same time it went on sale in the US earlier this month.” Such a Read Full Article

Steam to show up on mobile devices

Steam logoAccording to some rumors started by a steampowered.com forum member that met with Valve’s boss, Gave Newell: Steam, the gaming marketplace by Valve; might be making its way to iOS and Android mobile devices in the future. This move will definitely bring mobile gaming to a whole new level, if the amazing franchise and titles on Steam do get ported to those operating systems as well. After all, who wouldn’t love to play Left4Dead or Half-Life 2 on their phones? I wouldn?t say no to that. And with Steam already branching out beyond Windows into Macs, and TV systems ? it makes sense that their next move would be to conquer the portable devices. However, take this rumor with a pinch of salt as nothing has been officially announced nor has Steam said anything along those lines. Which Steam games would you like to see on your mobile phones or tablets?

NVIDIA releases Quadro 4000 driver fix for Mac OS
X 10.6.7

NVIDIA Quadro 4000It looks like Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6.7 update released a few days ago doesn’t only bring improvements to the operating system. It introduces new problems to Macs that use NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics cards. It has been reported that the display driver for the graphics card was incompatible with OS X 10.6.7 and during installation of the update, it was simply removed. Without the proper drivers for the graphics card, the Mac can’t make use of all the Quadros’ features and may not work properly. Fortunately NVIDIA was quick to recognize the problem and has issued an update to fix it. If you recently updated to OS X 10.6.7 and you have a Quadro 4000, head here to get the updated display driver.

Apple to enable video streaming via AirPlay
directly onto TV sets

AirPlay logoAccording to some reports online, Apple is planning to expand the AirPlay function of their iOS devices to include streaming video to TV sets. Currently AirPlay allows users to stream audio from their iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices onto devices that support AirPlay which is limited to a number of music players and Apple TV set top boxes at the moment. If TV sets support the streaming of video via AirPlay, it would open up a whole new world of media streaming for Apple and its consumers. Manufacturers would be able to create TV sets that support AirPlay ? a feature that could drive sales especially among iOS consumers which would benefit both Apple and electronics manufacturers. With Apple TV not doing so well, AirPlay supporting video could also lead to the increase of consumers purchasing video content off iTunes, again benefiting Apple. Sounds like a good business decision if you ask me, and with the foundation of AirPlay already set, it shouldn’t be too hard for Apple to let manufacturers include video support in their TVs. What do you think about the possibility of AirPlay-enabled TVs?
