We all know that one of the things an operating system needs in order to succeed is a strong development community behind it. More developers, means more apps, and when a platform has all the apps that a person needs, he/she will be more inclined to switch over to it. After all, the iOS’s huge community of developers and plethora of apps available has been key to the success of the iPad. In an attempt to make webOS more interesting to developers, HP has decided to launch the webOS Pivot magazine.
Designed to complement the HP webOS App Catalog (HP’s app store), Pivot will be a magazine that’s completely focused on apps. Instead of having to rely on charts or algorithms to find out what app is hot and worth your dollar to purchase, users will be able to read Pivot ? a monthly magazine that’s available to all webOS TouchPad users. It will be written by journalists and photographers affiliated with leading publications, so the content should be worthwhile.
No word on whether users will have to pay for the magazine, and how much it will cost if they do, but it sure sounds like a great idea for developers who want to get as much exposure as possible for their apps. Instead of having to rely on algorithms of the webOS App Catalog to feature the app, developers with good apps know that they have a shot at getting featured in the magazine. webOS Pivot will launch on July 1st.

Add to myYahoo!I am not a big fan of first-person-shooter games such as Call of Duty, since it make me feel killing real people (the graphics are too realistic) but this toy is fun and the game demoed in the video features really cool virtual creatures. The appBlaster, known as the appGun during its development by AppToyz, combine a plastic gun toy, an iPhone or iPod Touch and augmented reality, it lets gamers play an AR FPS game, check out the video, it is hilarious.
The triggers operate two pads that touch the screen and shoot the in-game gun, letting the gamer to use both the primary and secondary gun functions. The gun can be cocked and reloaded using the iPhone?s/iPod touch?s motion sensitivity, and it does not need any batteries: it uses the trigger-to-touch-screen technology to fire the in-game gun.

Add to myYahoo!Apple India is being probed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for activities promoting monopolies. This was prompted by a user complaint to the regulatory board under section 4 of the Competition Act 2002, which accuses Apple of stifling user choice by restricting the iPhone 4 to just two service providers, Aircel and Airtel. It should be noted that Apple stores do sell an unlocked (devoid of Aircel and Airtel’s contracts) version of the smartphone. However, the phone requires … Read Full Article

3D movies are all the rage right now ? pretty much every movie that involves a cartoon character is optimized for the 3D experience. While cinemas have 3D glasses in adult sizes that are designed to be “one size fits all”, it’s usually not the case with children. Most kids, especially really young ones have much smaller faces than other people. And smaller faces mean glasses that don’t fit properly, possibly ruining the whole 3D movie experience for him/her.
Dolby understands this and has released some 3D glasses just for kids to solve the problem. Dolby’s 3D Kids’ Glasses make use of 3M’s new multilayer optical film lenses, and provide the same lightweight, reusable design as the adult model, except that they’re optimized to fit the smaller head sizes of children. These reusable glasses will also have the same quality and performance as the adult versions, and are equipped with Sensormatic and RFID tags (to prevent theft). Expect to find them in cinemas in time for the 3D blockbusters this summer.

Is music so important to you that you cannot live without it? Not even when you go swimming? If you answered in the affirmative, then we would suggest you actually do your bit and purchase some sort of waterproof rated protective case for your portable media player – the iPod range ought to have something like that. Apart from that, you would also need a decent pair of earphones, and who better to deliver that than with the DryBUDS Sport?
Boasting an over-the-ear clip, the DryBUDS SPORT was specially designed for runners, swimmers, skiers, boaters, and just about anyone else who is active without being worried about getting wet.

What’s this? I thought that HTC only made quality handsets where smartphones are concerned, but to see a bunch of pastel colors adorning an unknown phone does seem to remind me more of Nokia’s recent N9 launch, but rubbing my eyes and pinching myself made me realize that this is no mirage – but rather, the HTC Glamor. Since this is still in its initial stages, very little is known about it – but we do know that it will come in pink, yellow, and light blue shades. Some folks might even liken it to be the HTC Bliss, which is a female-focused smartphone. The jury is out there, folks – what do you think?

It is very rare to see a smartphone or even a feature phone from Japan arrive in the US – normally, the phones from that part of the world tend to be exclusive, so we are pleasantly surprised to see the Sharp SH8188U being slated for a US release. This Android-powered smartphone will be powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, sporting a WVGA display – although there is no word on its size. Needless to say, we have the specifications for the Asian version as it is already out, playing nice on the WCDMA 900 and 2100MHz bands, although with a spanking new radio, it will be suitable for 3G connectivity in North America.
