Animatronic baby is freaky

video details and more

We’ve had a fair share of robot babies in the past, and this weekend we’ve got one more to add to the list. Chris Clarke, professional animatronic creature designer managed to come up with robot that behaves just like a human baby. If you’re wondering why on earth would anybody do that ? it’s so that real human babies can be replaced in movies (so they won’t have to work long hours under bright studio lights) and also because robot babies can be more obedient when it comes to acting.

While babies aren’t creepy, the fact that this robot is un-skinned and moving like a real one is pretty disturbing. I can only imagine the horror it would cause if some sound effects were added. Check out the video demonstration for yourself.

Sony Xperia ion available for pre-order

Sony Xperia ionA couple of weeks ago, Sony announced the Xperia ion for AT&T at CES with a vague release date of spring 2012. Well, there’s a chance that we get to see the device before then. Some websites have already started putting up the phone for pre-order, unlocked and off-contract. If you want to put money down for the phone before it goes on sale, Negri Electronics is offering the phone for $569.50 and Celhut has it priced at $799.99.

Since we don’t have an official price and a shipping date for the phone, it’s kind of a gamble but there’s a chance that you’ll be getting the phone earlier and at a cheaper price ? not to mention, you won’t be tied down to a contract. But I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Anybody interested in pre-ordering the Xperia ion today?

Windows Marketplace hits 60,000 apps

Windows MarketplaceIf “lack of apps” is the main reason why you haven’t switched to Windows Phone yet, it won’t be an excuse for much longer. It has just been reported that Microsoft’s mobile operating system’s app store, the Windows Marketplace, has broken yet another milestone hitting the 60,000 apps available mark today. A pretty impressive feat considering that the store hit 50,000 25 days ago.

While it still has a long way to go before it hits Android’s 400,000+ or Apple’s half a million apps, it’s still very promising for a platform that’s not even two years old. At this rate it should hit the first 100,000 before the end of the year. What apps would you like to see available on the Windows Marketplace?

Fractal Design Define XL Computer Case Review

Long Live the Extra Large Full Tower PC Case? My last review at Benchmark Reviews left off praising the shrink factor of technology and the maturation of micro cases (Silverstone PS07b micro case (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=857 Itemid=61)). At the same time, Benchmark Reviews has been busy reviewing monster sized cases. One conclusion that can be derived from the size and options of PC cases is that the PC case is not nearly as dead as some surmise, be they large or small. Otherwise, we'd be getting less variety and more generic offerings, along with fewer manufacturers. So, let's get going and see how the Fractal Design Define XL Silent PC Full Tower Chassis measures up to a market awash in full tower cases.
