Google spends an estimated $100 million for a new
office

Google logoA couple of months ago it was announced that Apple would be expanding its headquarters with the spaceship-looking Campus 2, and it looks like it won’t be alone in the expansion process. Today it’s been reported that Google will also be expanding with the purchase of a 240,000 square-foot office complex near its headquarters in Mountain View. While Google confirmed the purchase of the office, the company declined to disclose how much it cost.

Called The Landmark, the new office complex is said to house 960 workers at the new office ? a far cry from Apple’s humongous Campus 2 that was built for up to 13,000 employees. Google has been snapping up a lot of real estate and properties in the area recently, and The Landmark probably isn’t going to be the last of the company’s purchases. No word on whether Google will be making some renovations to the place, but I wouldn’t put the conversion of the office complex into a green-friendly zone (with solar panels and windmills) past the company.

World of Warcraft annual pass promotion gives you
Diablo 3 for free

WoW Annual Pass promotionWhile most MMORPGs have been going the free-to-play route, Blizzard has held steadfast to its monthly subscription plan for its highly-acclaimed and 11 million subscribers-strong title: World of Warcraft. While Blizzard did give in a little earlier this year by letting gamers play the low-levels of WoW for free, it looks like it’s about to make another move that will keep people paying (and playing) for the MMO.

Samsung Galaxy NexusThe Samsung Galaxy Nexus was announced earlier this week in Hong Kong, but there were no details about which carriers will be selling the device revealed (if you don’t count the hints on Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus interest page) ? until this evening. Verizon has issued a press release, officially confirming that the flagship Android superphone will be available on its network. And yes, the phone will support 4G LTE on Big Red.

No prices or exact date for the phone’s release was given, but its specs were reiterated in the press release: 4.65″ HD Super AMOLED (1280 x 720) display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4G LTE connectivity, 5-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, NFC-capabilities, Google mobile services (Android Market, Maps etc), WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.

No word on whether it will be a Verizon-exclusive at launch either, but stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted. Who’s going to purchase this phone when it goes on sale?

Apple patent suggests a thinner MacBook Pro

MacBook ProIn case  you didn’t know, one of the reasons that the MacBook Air is so thin is due to the fact that it lacks an optical drive, which is also one of the features (or lack of) that separate it from the MacBook Pro lines. Well, it looks like Apple has found a way to make the MacBook Pro without sacrificing its functionality. According to a recently discovered patent, Apple has managed to slim down the optical drive by reinventing it.

Steve Jobs biography hints at a TV from Apple

The official biography of Steve Jobs will be released on Monday, but a number of media outlets have already got their hands on the book and have been releasing snippets of it, bringing to light a lot of interesting details concerning Apple and Steve Jobs’ life. Well, in one section of the book, Walter Isaacson (the author) writes about a conversation he had with Steve Jobs about a product that is supposed to change the television industry ? the same way that the iPhone changed the mobile world and the iPod to the portable music world.

Here’s an excerpt from the book which hints at the product Steve Jobs was talking about:

I?d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,? he told me. ?It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.? No longer would users have to fiddle with complex remotes for DVD players and cable channels. ?It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.

Rumors about a TV from Apple (not to be confused with Apple TV) have surfaced before but never mentioned officially, and Steve Jobs’ words might have be as close to an official statement we may get anytime soon. Until then, there’s nothing for us to do but sit and wait.

iPhone 4S Review

iphone 4s review

The iPhone 4S wasn’t quite what many expected, and to be fair, we did contribute to the iPhone 5 hype by reporting on the various pre-launch rumors, but now the iPhone 4S is here, and it is selling well. The question is: how good is it, and is it for you? While the hardware changes are few, some are significant, and the iPhone 4S has the advantage of using a largely proven design, which is “mostly” compatible with existing accessories. It also has the most apps, and often the best apps. But is that enough to counter a relentless Android eco-system that improves day after day? After the announcement of the Droid RAZR and the Galaxy Nexus, this is a legitimate question.

In this review, I will go over the pros and cons of the iPhone 4S, including the new A5 processor, the low-light camera and of course… Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant. Are you ready? Let’s take the iPhone 4S for a ride.
