So it has finally happened, the way miniUSB cables made an appearance after their big brother USB proliferates virtually every aspect of gadgetry. Elecom recently released its DH-HD13AM Mini HDMI High-Speed cable that supports 1080p signals, ranging from 24- to 58-bit colors at a whopping 10.2Gbps. No idea on how much it costs though, but if you deal with (or think you will in the future) compact high definition capable devices like digital cameras and camcorders, then this would make for a relevant purchase.

SID 2008 is the platform where E-Ink Corporation decided to demonstrate its new displays with fast screen response and flexibility, along with a spanking new controller co-developed with Epson that is capable animations, fast menus, typing, tablet screen sizes and increased grayscales. Also, there is even brighter hope for the future as E-Ink paraded its new color electrophoretic displays on glass operating at fast speeds, and flexible substrates aimed at future applications. Sounds as though we will be seeing plenty of flexible displays plastered over everything and anything in the future - hopefully these won't take up too much juice in the process as we're trying to lower overall power consumption to help keep the earth green.

Here's a look at the Atom V from MWg. I must say that it looks extremely minimalist, but despite that it packs in a fair bit of high end features such as 3G connectivity (HSDPA up to 3.6Mbps) and Wi-Fi support, enabling you to surf virtually anywhere (most places have free Wi-Fo connections these days anyways). It will be powered by Windows Mobile 6.0 (what, no 6.1?) with a 520MHz processor ensuring that all your applications boot up speedily without any lag. It has a thickness of 14.95mm which is considered slim for a business device, while the 2.8" TFT LCD touch screen display with QVGA resolution caps off a truly capable smartphone. I just wonder how much it will cost when available.

Add to myYahoo!By Evan Ackerman Okay, I know you're asking "why on Earth would someone want a fake TV," but bear with me here… This is in fact one of those rare inventions that's totally stupid and totally genius all at once. FakeTV uses an array of LEDs and lenses to simulate the colors and pseudorandom flickering light [...]

AT&T is playing a game of flip-flops with customers, going back on its decision of limiting each customer to just one iPhone within a day by increasing that limit to three handsets instead. This came about after AT&T discovered that they have enough iPhones in their inventory to resume normal sales. I wonder if this is just a publicity stunt to raise even more hype as AT&T clears out their iPhone stock in view of the imminent 3G iPhone that should be out sometime next month (whispers of it being revealed at WWDC abound). If you're thinking of getting Apple's handset, will you be holding out for the 3G version or don't mind getting the 16GB model?

Philips has a couple of new handsets that will be heading out in Europe as well as Asia - the Philips 198 and Philips 199. Both won't be high-end gizmos, but instead cater to the entry-level category. The 198 and 199 are basically the same inside and outside, save that the latter has an integrated FM radio and comes with headsets. Other features include :-

Add to myYahoo!By Evan Ackerman If you've been desperately yearning for a Sony Rolly ever since you saw how cool they (kinda maybe) are when we saw one perform at CES, it looks like they're now for sale in Sony Style stores and online for an outlandish $400. I'm still not sure what sort of niche market the [...]

Friendster, the 8th largest website in the world as well as the top social network in Asia will soon make available this fun site to more than 1 billion Internet-ready cell phone users around the world via its mobile site. This allows you to stay on top of things where your Frienster account is concerned, and I think it applies only to the young and trendy since older folks do not have this complex that requires them to check their social network account oh-so-often. Email, yes, but this? Will you be riding on the Friendster Mobile wave and getting an Internet-enabled handset just because of this news?

Nokia did file a patent back in 2006 that deals with a new user interface which relies on an interactive touch screen keypad. This patent application sees a cell phone with dual displays, where the bottom will feature capacitative touch screen functionality ala the Nintendo DS. You won't be deprived of the standard Nokia keypad though, as it is still there for easy access to answering/rejecting phone calls as well as accessing menu items. Guess Nokia is a little bit too late to the game considering how this idea is already available in other handsets at point of publishing. I wonder when will this patent application see light on an actual Nokia handset - perhaps when they decide to revamp their user interface?
