Google’s announcement of its free navigation service for Android phones in the US was certainly bad news for GPS providers like Garmin and TomTom, now the news that Nokia’s new version of Ovi Maps will include free GPS turn by turn navigation on its smartphones will certainly provide another challenge for them. You’re able to download the new Ovi Maps for Nokia’s official site for free. Freebies such as Lonely Planet guides and free Michelin guides are included too. Supported phones include the X6, N97 Mini, E72, E55, E52, 6730 classic, 6710 Navigator, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 Navigation Edition, 5230. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a Nokia N900 in the list. You can check out a video promo of the new Ovi Maps, which will be preinstalled on devices launched by Nokia from March onwards. Press release.
