NES controller finds new life

NES controller finds new life

Everybody loves a tinge of retro, and that is the same even for geeks and gaming fans. The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) has long entrenched itself in the psyche of Americans for over a generation, so it is nice to see some people making the effort to merge the old with the new. Take this 4-port USB hub for example - it might not come with rotating connectors or other fancy stuff of that sort, but what it does have is the NES controller shell as it's case. This is strictly a D.I.Y. procedure, so unless you've got the passion, time, and necessary parts to conjure one up, it will remain an exclusive item.

Desk charges without wires

Desk charges without wires

Power, or the lack of it, seems to be the bane of most electronic gadgets which we carry around with us every single day. Our nightly routine no longer includes tucking in the kids to bed, but ensuring that our devices are lovingly hooked up to a power outlet, resting in their respective cradles to recharge for yet another gruelling day tomorrow. The Herman Miller desk looks like a good place to start for gizmoheads among us, boasting the eCoupled wireless charging technology that juices up your gadgets without the need for any cables. All you need to do is lay your cellphones, PDAs, handheld consoles, and digital audio players on the desk and pick it up tomorrow morning fully charged. Unfortunately, there is no word on when the Herman Miller desk will be available, nor is there a price tag attached to it.

Breath Xchange keeps you warm

Breath Xchange keeps you warmNo, this is not a mask used in robberies, but it is actually a device that recycles your exhaled breath by using it to warm your entire body. Boasting a unique heat exchanger within, the Breath Xchange captures the heat and moisture from your exhaled breath, which is subsequently use to humidify and warm the air your breath it to keep you warm and toasty. I suppose such a device works great only when you're healthy, as you wouldn't want to breathe in the same old stale air when you've caught the flu bug. Of course, it also helps to avoid other pungent foods like onions and garlic. The Breath Xchange is currently available for $39.95 a pop.

Classic games in a coffee table

Classic games in a coffee table

If you have £3,295 to spare and are a geek who absolutely loves retro gaming, this Arcade Coffee Table is definitely your cup of, er, tea. Choose from 29 retro games to play, reliving childhood memories of long afternoon spent in a dinghy-looking arcade, pumping in large amounts of quarters just to master a single game. These games can be controlled via a pair of hidden joysticks, while the Windows XP computer runs behind the scenes to ensure everything goes on smoothly without a hitch. WiFi capability is also included for easier connectivity. Unfortunately, the 17" and 19" models do not enable you to flip up the display, making long gaming sessions a literal pain in the back.

Sansa Express jostles with iPod Shuffle

Sansa Express jostles with iPod Shuffle

Here is another example when you talk about pre-medidated murder - the Sansa Express looks set to do a number on the 2G iPod Shuffle sales if the specifications are anything to go by. In addition to the direct USB connector, you get a quad-line OLED display, an integrated FM tuner, voice recording capabilities courtesy of the built-in microphone, 1GB of internal memory along with a microSD card slot to further expand your storage space. File format support includes MP3 and protected WMA. With a battery life of 15 hours and a $59.99 retail price, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Sansa Express will definitely prove itself to be a worthy opponent to the overhyped but well-marketed Shuffle 2G.

Wall lamp lightens up mood

Wall lamp lightens up mood

They say that light affects a person's mood, and a solution to minor depression during those long, winter months are often found in artificial light lamps. The question to ask is this - why is the solution limited to just one form of medium? The answer, an illuminated canvas wall-lamp that emanates a soothing aura which automatically reduces the anger and stress levels in the vicinity almost immediately. Of course, it is not a cure-all for more serious cases, but it looks set to do a pretty good job when mounted in your living room. Apparently, the color photons do help in most general cases. You will definitely need to bathe yourself in this light when you find out that your wife charged $1,100 to your credit card for this canvas wall-lamp without your prior permission.

MacBook Pro shines ever brighter

MacBook Pro shines ever brighter

What are some of the other ways a MacBook Pro will be able to be improved upon? For starters, Apple will move in the general direction of LED backlights instead of traditional cold cathode fluorescent backlights that are used in the current batch of MacBook Pro notebooks. Industry sources claim that Apple will limit the use of LED technology in the 15" MacBook Pro model only for the time being, with the 13" and 17" models being considered. How does this affect consumers? For starters, you get a brighter display with improved battery life, while tiny details such as a more vivid canvas will definitely go a long way in building up a new generation of MacBook Pro lovers.

What a phone-y

What a phone-yThe say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but sometimes it ends up on the opposite end by being corny instead. Take the new skin for the Treo which was developed by SimToGo - it makes the OS look like the one on the iPhone, but you will never be able to measure up to the actual iPhone's interface, screen size, and supposed "cool" factor. Of course, the only upside to this (if you can endure whispers of not being able to afford a bona fide iPhone) is you get to save at least half a grand which could be spent elsewhere, since this skin is available for free.

New KDDI phone concept

New KDDI phone concept
Concept cellphones are often very nice to look at, just like this KDDI concept candybar phone from Nao Tamura. Unfortunately, other than the sleek design, there is not a single word concerning its specifications. It looks like a mid-range handset that does not offer the latest and greatest frills, but instead boasts reliability in a cold, metal interior wrapped around a translucent plastic exterior. It reminds me of those Game Boy Color models that came with see-through transparent plastic.
