Verizon Casio GzOne Commando image leaked

Casio GzOne CommandoThe rugged Android phone from Casio, slated to arrive on Verizon earlier this month never did show up, but new press shots of the G’zOne Commando leaked and gives us a clearer look at the phone. From what we can see, it looks like what you’d get if a G-Shock and an Android phone had a lovechild ? and taking into consideration that Casio did design the G-Shock after all, it’s not hard to see the resemblance. Anyway, this sturdy phone is Mil-STD 8210G certified for being shockproof, waterproof and dust resistant ? no surprise there, seeing how brawny the phone’s case looks.

The Casio G’zOne Commando packs an 800MHz processor with 512MB of RAM, a 3.6? 480 x 800 WVGA screen, a 5 megapixel rear camera, and will ship with Android 2.2. It will also be preloaded with G?zGEAR apps designed for outdoor enthusiasts ? thermometer, pedometer and a digital compass.

No word on pricing or release date, but since the press materials have been completed, it shouldn’t take too long now. Any of you keen on owning a sturdy Android phone like this?

Google Offers officially launched today

Google OffersSince Groupon didn’t want to sell out to Google a few months ago, it looks like they’ll have a new competitor on the block. The company that tried to buy them, Google, has officially stepped into the deal-of-the-day website business with their own offering. Called Google Offers, it will function in the same way as the other deal services ? pushing out daily alerts to subscribers, letting them know about any offers or discounts that are available in places around their area.

Google Offers is promising “50% off or more” than the regular price at “places you’ll love.” At the moment the service is only available in Portland, Oregon with more locations to be included in the future. If you’re living in Portland and don’t mind the occasional discount or freebie filling up your inbox, you can head over to the Google Offers website to sign up now, or if you’re in another area, sign up and you’ll be alerted when Google Offers is available in your area.

Sony Ericsson W8: the first Android Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson W8

While the original incarnations of the Walkman hasn’t been around for quite some time now, it looks like Sony refuses to let the brand name die ? then again, if it’s iconic, why not milk it for all it’s worth right? The first Android Walkman phone has finally been announced by Sony Ericsson Indonesia. Called the W8, it deserves to be called a Walkman phone ? because in 2011, the phone might as well be a cassette player.

Self-healing paint to counter vandalism

Self-healing polymer

Don’t you just hate it when you get a brand new shiny vehicle, you drive it out for the first time, park it in a parking lot and return a few hours later just to see a huge, obvious scratch by the side of your car that was obviously done by a careless driver or a spiteful vandal? Well, in the future these problems might be a thing of the past.

US Army to use Android in the battlefield

Android soldierWhile iOS devices seem to be making a lot of headway in the medical field, it looks like Android will be the weapon of choice for the US military. According to reports, the Android-based Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) gadget is currently being tested and moving closer to being deployed to soldiers. Currently in prototype, the JBC-P is a device that runs a modified version of Android which is used to give soldiers their mission commands, provide maps, blue force tracking, tactical ground reporting and critical messaging. Soldiers will also have access to other apps like an address book and Open Office (though I doubt they’ll have any games to play while passing time).

It took 6,000 man-months to make Duke Nukem
Forever

For a game that’s been in development for what seems like – well, forever, Gearbox, the final developers for Duke Nukem Forever estimate that it the game probably took about 6,000 man-months to finish.

Gearbox’s boss Randy Pitchford says that the orignal developers, 3D Realms poured in about 3,500-4,500 man-months while his company put in about 2,500 or so man-months to complete development.

With that type of crazy work, gamers will be expecting this game to live up to its hype. I was fortunate enough to get hands-on play time with Duke Nukem Forever at PAX East last month and I have to say, the game looks pretty great.

It’s no Call of Duty, but it’ll definitely be a fun game riddled with cheesy humor and if you’re into that sort of thing, some light hanky panky scenes.

Look for Duke Nukem Forever to be released in June on PS3 and Xbox 360.
