Fans of the world-famous blue hedgehog, Sonic, will be happy to know that in celebration of the speedy character’s 20th anniversary, SEGA has something special in store for you. SEGA has teamed up KaBOOM! And Youth UpRising to design and build a custom playground inspired by the iconic blue hedgehog in the community of East Oakland, CA this year. Beginning October 28th, volunteers from SEGA of America and members of the local community will construct the playground in just one day.
The playground will be designed by the very kids who will be enjoying it, making it a very special place for the entire community. The playground will provide the over 400 children in the community with a space to play with for the years to come. This playground will open for play on the same day as the launch of the upcoming Sonic game, Sonic Generations (November 1st). No pictures have been released, but you can follow SEGA’s Twitter account and Facebook page for pictures and progress reports. Anybody planning to volunteer their help for construction of the playground?

While it’s not exactly in everybody’s best interests to have a portable credit card machine that can be brought wherever they go, the technology is available for such purposes. The folks over at NetSecure Payments have recently introduced its Kudos credit card acceptance kit over to the US. The Kudos is basically a gadget that can be used to turn desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones into credit card terminals.
This allows pretty much just about anybody to have a credit card machine at their disposal. Which means merchants will be able to sell products in the middle of a field or even on a bus or train ? in areas where there are no ATMs nearby, and people have cards instead of cash to spend. These portable terminals are also suitable for small merchants that previously never had support for credit card transactions due to high upfront costs, monthly fees and complex contracts. Kudos is touted to provide the same services but at a much cheaper price.
Kudos is available for $99.99 at KudosPayments.com, head there to purchase it or to find out more about how it works. Office Depot is also selling it but at a discounted price of $79.99.

Got a personal computer that you want to truly show off as your own machine? Sure you can theme it and customize all your icons and wallpaper ? you could even modify the casing of the machine by painting it with your favorite colors and sign. But nothing says “you” better than having your name etched onto the case itself.

There is just something about Apple’s devices that they seemingly do on purpose to make it nigh impossible for the layman to fix or repair. Any teardown of the iPhone will tell you enough, where special proprietary tools are more often than not required to be used, and hopefully with this latest patent granted to the fruity company, future devices that run on the iOS platform will be a whole lot easier to repair.

Apple’s most recent iPhone (also the best iPhone yet according to them), the iPhone 4S, has certainly made a huge splash in terms of sales. Well, where does that leave the iPhone 3GS which is lagging behind by a couple of generations? It can now be purchased for free – as long as you adhere to a 2-year contract over at AT&T. It seems that even this free iPhone 3GS that is feeling its age in terms of performance and looks is doing extremely well, with CEO of AT&T Mobility Ralph de la Vega claiming his company is seeing ?tremendous, tremendous demand? for the iPhone 3GS.

Now this is definitely an interesting amalgamation of items – a bicycle as well as a record player, all crammed into a single device. Known as Feats Per Minute, this “invention” of sorts will see the incorporation of a turntable onto the rear wheel of a bicycle. Basically, you spin the record player whenever you take a ride, where whatever sound that comes out will go through the route of the horn located at the back. Of course, there were some engineering challenges in this setup which had to be overcome before it worked – among them, making sure the record can play vertically, while ensuring the needle experiences as little skip as possible whenever you take it out for a ride. Check out the video of it in action after the jump for more context.

Are you a huge fan of the Gears of War franchise? I would suppose so, this is only one of the most popular titles on the Xbox platform, and I am quite sure if you fall under the fan category, you would surely have gotten hold of the third version of the game. Well, now that you’ve already had your fair share of Gears of War 3 (but not tired of it yet), here is a bit of good news – this coming December 13th, you will be able to enjoy Microsoft and Epic Games’ latest effort, where the ?RAAM?s Shadow? add-on will be the latest campaign experience.
It will feature a bunch of characters who are both new and eerily familiar to the series, offering over 3 hours of solid gameplay with a storyline to back up the reason for an add-on. Basically, it will precede the events of the first ?Gears of War,? while introducing half a dozen more multiplayer characters that you’ve never seen before, throwing in the Chocolate Weapon Set and another 250 Gamerscore for good measure. Mark December 13th on your calendars then as that is when ?RAAM?s Shadow? will launch.

Solar power is definitely something that companies ought to figure out how to harness to its maximum ability – after all, it is free and pretty consistent, depending on which part of the globe you’re residing at. Now here is something that I believe most folks would want to have in their living rooms or at least bedrooms – the Cybertecture Mirror that would certainly seem far more capable than any fairy tale magic mirror. It has been described as a “reflective window into a digital life”, where this mirror will be connected to the Internet (surprise, surprise), augmenting your reflected image with meta data such as news bytes, weather updates, messages in your inbox and social network updates. Heck, you can even watch a TV program on it, while the Cybertecture Mirror delivers information on your state of health while doubling up as a personal exercise coach. I would suppose if they included some sort of Siri-like software inside, it would be even more interesting.
