Microsoft Windows 8 set for 2012 release

With Windows 7 having been released nearly a month since today to rave reviews worldwide, it does make us sit up and take notice that Microsoft has plans to roll out Windows 8 in 2012 - that's a mere 3 years since Windows 7 was launched, keep in sync with Microsoft's rhythm of releasing major and new software every four years apart. What do you think of this move? Will Windows 7 have the longevity that XP had to throw things off course?

Electric shaver modded with new button

This electric shaver has been saved from the trash thanks to the ingenuity of its owner who decided to replace a faulty power switch with one of his own - it does make us wonder though, won't it get in the way of the shaving process being this long and all?

SCAR assault rifle gets ammo counter

This SCAR assault rifle is very different from the rest since it comes with an ammo counter just like what you see in the movies and video games, where a "black box" located within the handgrip will network with the soldier alongside the home base. This sealed grip will log the number of bullets fired alongside the amount of ammo remaining. Apart from that, there is work being done to pair it to specific soldiers via biometrics, rendering the rifle useless in the hands of the enemy.

Samsung outs Diva cellphones

Samsung will target the fairer sex this time round with a couple of handsets that fall under the Diva brand, where they are the S5150 Olivia and S7070. The former is a clamshell handset with a small external display, a 2.2" QVGA internal display, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot and a 3-megapixel camera. As for the Samsung S7070, this does resemble the Star somewhat where you get a new diamond center button alongside a 5-megapixel camera, a 3" WQVGA resistive touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, a microSD memory card slot and an integrated FM radio. Expect both models to hit the market sometime in Q1 next year.

Are game controllers getting all weird or what - the Blobo squeezable game controller shares roughly the same dimensions as that of a golf ball, where it will keep in touch with your PC or cellphone via Bluetooth. Each purchase will come with half a dozen sports games, where it can track whether you are running, jumping, dribbling or karate chop-ping your time away. Don't think that this €54.90 device will be a Christmas mover.

Nook sold out for the holidays

Guess the Nook is the Wii of last year - it is already sold out for the holidays according to the B&N Web site. You'll be greeted by the message, "The hottest holiday gift is out of stock. Order the Nook today to be first in line for the new year." on their page, which is somewhat similar to what happened when the Kindle ran out of stock. Amazingly enough, Barnes & Noble has yet to ship a single unit of the Nook, making us excited to see the full sales figure potential of the Nook in the long run. Would those who are disappointed make the jump to the Amazon Kindle instead as their second-choice ebook reader?
