2007 Round-The-World Flight Simulator Race
Update: A Day of Surprise and Heartache

It?s coming up on three and a half days straight of racing for the Flight Simulator Geeks?Earlier today the race around the world was extremely close as SimOuthouse pulled a surprise manuever by interpreting the rules differently than other teams and used a jet to get to an Atlantic corridor in addition to using a jet in the Trans-Atlantic corridor. As a result of this surprise manuever, they were able to jump ahead of AVSim for the Trans-Atlantic flight by nearly an hour and a half. Looking at the image you can see SimOuthouse?s baton holder, Ferror, being chased by literally the entire AVSim team. There?s the surprise, now for the heartache? SimOuthouse?s baton holder crashed after that long jet journey across the Atlantic. While that alone is not tragic since you can pass the baton off and only accrue a 30 minute penalty, the wing-man who had the baton passed to him also crashed while landing.Read the rest of the story on NonPCGeeks.

USB Tape Dispenser saves you desk space

EARTH_TRECK_5.jpg

While at first I thought the USB scotch tape dispenser was either an overpriced way to tell your computer to dispense tape, or just a rather unneeded invention, but seeing it in action it seems like a good idea. It's a normal tape dispenser, but with a USB hub built-in, so you're only giving desk space to one thing, and it can be handy to have a hub that has a little gravity to it. The other smart thing is, the hub ports are on little swivel mounts, so you can flip them out in a more convenient direction to keep your cables organized better. Comes in silver, sand and pink candy stripe. [GT]

The Edge hydrogen SUV

W420xh180xb24_q50_ffffff_r0_none_cab70fo

Offering up the world's first drivable fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle with plug-in capability, the Ford Edge has a flexible propulsion system, meaning it's possible to pull out the fuel cell and replace it with a conventional petrol, or diesel, or ethanol, or other engine as appropriate.  Charging on conventional mains power and sporting a raft of comfort features from full computerized climate control to a nice place to put your iPod, satellite radio and audio controls in the steering wheel.  The Edge drives in battery-only mode for the first 40 km and then switches over to hybrid mode, meaning if you use it strictly as a commuter machine you could well stay purely electric.   As with many of these it's still in concept stage, but if they make enough concepts maybe they'll be able to have a big sale just to sell all the samples.  $33,000 USD to $38,000 USD.  [GT]
