KDDI Musical Instrument Concepts

KDDI Musical Instrument Concepts

One good thing about concepts is the ability for designers to go wild without having to care about the practical aspects of building such a device/vehicle. KDDI, a major phone carrier in Japan, has come up with a range of musical instrument concepts in a collaboration with Yamaha, fusing together cell phones and music instruments. They are all creatively named, ranging from "Band in my Pocket" to "Trio in your Hand" and "Keys to Touch". I'll stick on MP3s on my phone please, thank you very much . After all, I'm tone deaf so it would be a disaster for everyone around me if I ever got hold of one of these conceptual devices. For more images of other conceptual musical instruments, check out AkihabaraNews.

YuKyung Technologies took the opportunity to parade the new Intel Atom-powered Viliv S5 at IDF, featuring the following specifications.:-

Would've been nice to see Viliv throw in a GPS chipset as well. No idea on pricing or availability though.

Sonance Kayak Speaker

Sonance Kayak Speaker

No, what you see on the right is not some sort of watercraft being suspended in the middle of a living room - it is the Sonance Kayak speaker that features lamp-like cones on both top and bottom ends. These cones come with a coaxial driver array, while the jewel-shaped segment in the middle is an acoustic reflector that was specially designed to provide the optimal stereo image no matter what the room is shaped like. The Sonance Kayak Speaker can function either horizontally or vertically, so it really depends on how and where you want to place it. For $2,900 a pop, you can choose from 14 finishes to match your living room.

LG Prada II To Come Soon

LG Prada II To Come Soon

LG isn't giving up on its fashion line of cell phones soon, as they will be rolling out the Prada II smartphone sometime down the road. This model will come with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for easier messaging and faster emails, and will hopefully be a much more practical phone to use compared to the original Prada handset. With where smartphones are heading these days, is it safe to assume a 2 megapixel camera at the very least, along with 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity to go along with a decent amount of internal storage?

Intel Media Processor CE 3100

Intel Media Processor CE 3100

Embedded Internet TV is an ambition that both Yahoo! and Intel share after unveiling the Media Processor CE 3100 at IDF, where it will, in theory, be installed inside HDTVs to allow viewers to access Internet-based content minus the need for another set-top box. On a sidenote, you could still get the set-top box if you want to, but that's another story for a different day. As for Yahoo!'s role, they hope that the Widget Channel will be a favorite whenever boring commercials and re-runs are all you're getting on the tube at the moment. Hmm, even more reason not to get off the couch, eh? The Widget Channel had better be interesting though if this is to take off.

Peek Email Gadget

Peek Email Gadget

Peek from New York is working on a new %99.95 device that touts itself to be a one-function email gadget and will arrive at Target Stores nationwide come September 14th. I'm not too sure whether there is a market for this device, since many cell phones these days allow you to access the Internet wherever you are, while Wi-Fi hotspots are more common than gold medals in China. This device is say to come with a full QWERTY keyboard and will fetch email via T-Mobile's network for $19.95 monthly - a price that I think is too high. Are emails really that urgent and important in your life that you have to attend to them immediately? If so, chances are you're already rocking to a permanent push email solution on a handheld device, so why bother paying even more? Ah well, only time will tell.

Death Reports From HP Mini Note Users

Death Reports From HP Mini Note Users

To date, at least three HP Mini Note owners have reported that their diminutive netbooks have given up the ghost during the course of normal wear and tear, returning to the great big HP repair center for further diagnosis. All three suffered from the same symptoms before they died - a screen that goes completely dark to signify the end of things. The power LED might remain on when powered, but the display still stays as a visual representation of a black hole. Could this be a motherboard power failure? Have you run into such troubles, or know anyone else in the same boat?

Olympus has unveiled yet another digital camera from the mju range - this time in the form of the 1060. This model will feature the following :-

No idea on pricing, but you can choose from Starry Silver, Midnight Black or Cyan Green when the mju 1060 hits the markets next month. Looks like another mid-range point-and-shoot.

Fuchitek PEP01 Pico Projector

Fuchitek PEP01 Pico Projector

Fuchitek is poised to release its PEP01 pico projector pretty soon, enabling you to make a decent business presentation everywhere you go without having to lug around a large projector. This model won't measure up to much against its larger brethren when it comes to performance, but what Fuchitek tries to do here is achieve a balance between portability and performance. The PEP01 will feature the following :-

There is no word on pricing, but 2009 ought to be a vintage year.
