Miracast-certification initiative announced by
the WiFi Alliance, hopes to unify streaming standards across multiple devices

If you?ve always liked the idea of being able to seamlessly share your smartphone or tablet?s screen on a big screen TV without having to hook it up with messy cables, or perhaps stream what?s on your TV to your tablet while another program is playing, the WiFi Alliance is hoping to make that a reality by announcing a device certification program for the new Miracast wireless streaming standard. Basically what this does is that it aims to share both audio and video between devices that have been made by different manufacturers instead of having to rely on a sole manufacturer. (more…)

Valve hopes to launch beta testing of hardware in
2013

So we know that Valve is working on its own hardware and after speaking to the folks at Engadget, Valve?s Jeri Ellsworth revealed that the beta testing of their hardware efforts could be taking place as soon as 2013. Beta tests are already taking place but these are done internally and with prototype devices. What Valve is hoping to do is to run a small production of units that would make a public beta test feasible. The beta is most likely to be related to Steam but as to what exactly this hardware is remains to be seen. Some have speculated it could be Valve?s wearable computing initiative, but according to Ellsworth, that particular project is a good two to five years away. The end goal is to make Steam games more fun to play in your living room, which we have to admit sounds like a console at first, but then again it could really be anything. Either way it will be interesting to see what Valve will be able to cook up, so check back with us at a later date where hopefully more information will be available.

Wacom announces availability of Bamboo Stylus
pocket for tablets

Given that Apple?s iPad was not originally designed to be used with styluses, there is no place to keep a stylus if you were to use one. Sure you could put them into your pocket or bag, but since it isn?t actually attached to the stylus, you could forget to bring it out with you. Wacom is hoping that make styluses for the iPad a little more obvious and has announced the availability of its Bamboo Stylus pocket. Designed to be portable, this stylus will collapse into itself, allowing for easy storage in pockets, and best of all it comes with a cap that will allow you to attach it to the headphone jack on the iPad. It?s not the most elegant solution plus there?s always the possibility of the stylus smacking against the screen or the rear shell of your iPad, but at least you won?t forget to bring it with you! Made from aluminum, the Bamboo Stylus pocket features a conductive rubber tip which can be swapped out for a firmer one depending on preference, which is also compatible with the company?s Bamboo Paper ? Notebook app. It is available via Wacom?s website for $34.95.

Apples new Earpods are more durable than its
predecessor according to teardown

The folks at iFixit have managed to get their hands on Apple?s latest Earpods and have conducted a teardown of the earphones. Given its rather unique design, many are wondering how it will hold up against the old earphones that Apple traditionally bundles with its iOS devices. Now we?re sure that those who have used those earphones can agree to just how easily they break. Not just physically, but also electronically whereby the sound in one side will stop working. Will Apple?s new Earpods fare better?

According to the folks at iFixit, after conducting an extensive look into the Earpods, they have concluded that these new earphones are more durable than its predecessor. It features larger cable wrapping to reduce the strain on the wires and are said to be more resistant to water and sweat. We strongly advise putting them to the test but for those who?d rather not spring for more expensive/durable earphones, we expect these should do the trick, at least for now. Head on over to iFixit?s website for the complete teardown and analysis.

This arcade coin slot belt buckle could be a
gamers favorite fashion accessory

Before kids started getting their own consoles and before smartphones and tablets were known for their gaming capabilities, kids back in the day (and even today, perhaps less frequently) would visit the arcade to get their gaming fix. Of course there are some games available in the arcade that one can?t play at home, but we can?t help but feel that arcade games in some ways felt more precious. Maybe it?s because unlike games at home where you can save and reload when you die, dying in arcade games meant having to spend more money retrying that level, or even restarting from scratch if you were too slow to reload before the countdown ended.

That being said, this arcade coin slot belt buckle is most certainly a hark back to the good old days and according to its creator, ifindustries, it is made from genuine recycled arcade parts and apparently it even lights up! Of course we?re not sure what sort of message is being sent here since it implies that it might only cost 25c to ?play?, but we?re sure that gamers and geeks out there wouldn?t mind wearing this out of nostalgia. Unfortunately it is sold out but its creator has stated that they will be made to order, so pop on over to ifindustries? Etsy page to get in touch with them.
