TrustYou, a European leader in social media monitoring for the online reviews and social commerce space, has acquired Dallas-based competitor ReviewAnalyst to enter the US market. The company has also closed $5 million Series A round of funding.
TrustYou?s sentiment analysis engine is based on semantic technologies that allow the service to provide better accuracy to the hospitality business than leading social media monitoring tool Radian 6, according to CEO Benjamin Jost: with Radian 6, you can only access sentiments related to the brand Hilton, for example, and you cannot access and analyse any specific feedback for the hundreds of hotels in the chain, and that?s what TrustYou effectively provides, in 10 different languages.

Sonim Technologies, the name behind the world’s toughest phone, will be working to roll out the XP5300 Force 3G in Europe. This is an ultra-rugged handset that will target hard hat-wearing workers who plunge themselves into extreme and remote environments each time they go to their “office”, or even for folks who just love spending time outdoors and do not want to fret or worry about their phone.
The Sonim XP5300 Force 3G is one tough cookie – it even goes past the MIL-SPEC rugged standards, where it can survive even in wastewater 2 meters deep. Apart from that, it is water- and dust-proof, and is able to survive a drop onto concrete from a height of 2 meters – surely that is higher than where most of our pockets are?
You won’t find this to be as “cool” as an iPhone or Android smartphone though, since the 2″ Gorilla Glass display is rather small in comparison, but at least it is 1.5mm thick, boasting the highest levels of scratch and shock resistance.
No idea on how much it will cost in Europe when it arrives though, but we do hear whispers of it going for $699 in the US.
Update: It will retail for £395 in the UK when it hits the market.

Own a Sony PS3? Well, it goes without saying that getting your console updated to the latest firmware or system software version is always a good thing – assuming the latest update is not gimped. I’m not saying that Sony’s latest PS3 update will be spoiled in any way, but I would think that it will bring far more progress than regression.

Folks over at the Technical University of Denmark managed to cobble together a portable EEG system that comprises of a low-cost scalp monitor and a smartphone application. This is not exactly rocket science, but the positive implications of such a contraption is definitely worth looking into – a resemblance of a handheld EEG unit. All it requires is an Emotiv headset that you should be able to pull off a shelf, hook it up to a wireless USB receiver as well as connecting that to a Nokia N900, and you’re good to go. Who says there is no need to purchase a Nokia anymore?

Fancy having your iOS device display the look and feel of OS X? Well, some users certainly feel that way, where a built-in file manager that does so would make one feel more at home despite using a mobile device. Since Apple has yet to accede to this particular request, some enterprising folk in the jailbreaking community decided to literally take things into their own hands, hence the Lion Ultimatum theme.

When it comes to modern smartphones that sport touchscreen displays, you can more or less forget about the older clamshell design, as phones these days tend to come in a candybar form factor – and for smartphones that want to include a QWERTY keyboard, that is more often than not available in a slider form factor. LG’s latest entry into this department is the LG Optimus Q2, where it offers decent specifications that ought to keep those on a tight budget happy.
The LG Optimus Q2 is said to ship with an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor that has been clocked at 1.2GHz which is different from most of the other Tegra 2 devices that tend to be 200MHz slower. This added boost in speed ought to make the user interface and overall user experience smoother than ever before.
Other hardware specifications include Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 4″ WVGA display with IPS (In Plane Switching), a 5-megapixel camera at the back and a VGA front-facing camera. Will it come to the US? Perhaps, just keep a keen eye out for it over at the FCC.

One of the great things about today’s video game consoles is the fact that their firmware can be updated to fix bugs, patch holes and introduce new features without you having to buy a new system. One of the bad things about these patches is that you’re sometimes forced to download them in order to keep playing, and when it’s a major update, it might take a long time. For some people it isn’t a problem, but for other people who can only spend an hour a day gaming ? wasting half an hour just to patch their system is a major bummer.

Add to myYahoo!Google used a blog post today to remind developers that the next version of the Android OS is going to be released soon, and some of them need to take steps to ensure their apps will run on what’s been dubbed “Ice Cream Sandwich”. While we still have no official word on when Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is going to launch, it looks like it might be arriving in the near future. Google has already started preparing its developers with details about how they should handle their app sizes in Ice Cream Sandwich. Because Ice Cream Sandwich is designed to unite the smartphone and tablet experience for Android, developers will have to use code in their apps so that developers can just compile their apps into one APK (Android Package) which can support multiple resolutions instead of coding separate apps for tablets and smartphones.
Google also asks developers to think about how their tablet apps are going to work on smaller displays before the Ice Cream Sandwich SDK (Software Developer Kit) is even released. If you’re a developer or just an Android user who’s keen on finding out more about what’s to come, head over to the Android Developers blog for more details. Let’s hope this means we’ll be seeing Ice Cream Sandwich arriving soon.
