Quattro robot plays games on the iPhone

Ever wondered about whether there is someone out there who is able to beat you at your favorite game on the iPhone? Well, if the humans can’t do it, how about calling in something heavier in the form of a robot – the Quattro robot, to be more specific. Created by Adept Technologies, this robot is touted to perform pretty well when it comes to playing iPhone games, and its “show off” game would be 1to50, a simple title which requires you to tap the numbers “1″ to “50″ on a screen of jumbled numbers in the shortest time possible. A human is more or less capable of doing so by 15 seconds if he/she has the necessary reflexes, with the world record being 7.85 seconds at the moment, but Quattro robot clearly wins hands down at a mere 6.67 seconds. OK, so Quattro is meant to see action in industrial applications on assembly lines and sorting facilities, but we guess even a robot needs to let out some stress once in a while lest it goes amok, right?

Samsung SyncMaster C27A750 wireless USB monitor
looks good

Wires and cables around your desk tends to have a strange way of cluttering itself, seeming having a life of its own to be as tangled as possible without any human intervention. While the truly wireless society is still a pipe dream at the moment, there are some baby steps that one can take to achieve that – and getting the Samsung SyncMaster C27A750 wireless USB monitor might be a good way to start. This 27″ 1920×1080, TN based LED backlit display is wireless, where it will require you to plug in its Ultrawideband USB dongle to a computer to have it work over a Certified Wireless USB protocol. To sweeten the deal, this monitor also features a built-in four port USB hub, where those ports are equally split in number between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. The inclusion of a 3.5mm jack will also let you enjoy your music in private, and we’re amazed to see Samsung squeeze in that much bandwidth into a wireless connection. Expect to fork out a pretty hefty $840 for this puppy though if you want one.

INQ Cloud Touch phone ships this April 6th

Remember the INQ Cloud Touch that went official last month? Well, we now have word that this fabled Facebook handset will hit the UK when April 6th rolls around. Among the known launch partners for the device would be Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse, where pre-orders for the INQ Cloud Touch has already been going around at £299.95 sans a SIM card. For folks who prefer a Pay As You Go scheme, then the INQ Cloud Touch is more affordable at £199.95 a pop. Folks who are looking at a free on £20 monthly or higher contracts are those who don’t mind tying themselves down to a long-term commitment. Well, the beginning of April isn’t too far away, and we do hope to see whether the amount of Facebook activity will increase with the proliferation of such handsets.

Flea bike lights from Blackburn Designs

Blackburn Designs has rolled out its Flea bike lights that are touted to be some of the better designed lamps in the market – never mind the fact that they already look pretty stunning to the naked eye. No, you are not able to jump up to 40 times your own height on your bicycle when the Flea bike lights are installed, but they will definitely do their bit to let you look as though you “jump” out visually to other road users, especially at night or in low light conditions. For instance, being affixed onto a bike using velcro straps, they will come in a choice of flashing or steady beams, where bright LEDs can last pretty long without sipping too much juice. Both lights come with a charge indicator, letting you know just how much time you have left to cycle around in the dark, and thanks to its USB recharging capability, you need not fret about purchasing another battery – ever again. The front and rear lights will retail for $30 a pop. , and there?s even a solar charger, which comes in a kit with a spare USB dongle for another $30.

Revolver USB flash drive is not the smartest
gadget idea

If we have a tip for frequent flyers, then it would be this – make sure your electronics look non-threatening, and a prime example of what NOT to bring on your flight would be the revolver USB flash drive you see here. Despite boasting enough space to tote around 4GB of memory (instead of bullets), it will most certainly set off alarm bells of our security officers manning those baggage scanning machines, and you might just make your entire flight late simply because of an interrogation session to make sure your sense of humor is somewhat tempered so that nothing like this will repeat itself, ever again. USB Geek is selling the revolver USB flash drive for $23.

Archos has more ideas for new generation of
Android tablets

Archos, a name from France that has been associated with portable media players for over a decade, has also forayed into the potentially competitive Android-powered tablet market, carving out a niche for itself in the low cost market with further plans for its next generation of Android tablets. Archos’ Gen 9 tablets will see 1.6GHz dual core ARM Cortex A9 chips running proceedings from within, with plans to roll out its first tablets with 3G mobile broadband connectivity sometime later this year. Of course, when something is more affordable, you can expect build quality to be different, and the Gen 9 tablets are touted to come with plastic cases over a stainless steel frame, and to get the cheapest deal out there, you will most probably have to alnd yourself a hard drive model, as the solid state disks version will burn a larger hole in your pocket. Good luck to Archos and their attempts!

Polyply concept more than welcomes Apple products

When it comes to Apple and their marketing, very few companies are able to be on par with them. After all, they made the “i” prefix stylish, first with the iPod and then the iMac followed by the phenomenally successful iPhone and more recently, iPad – not to mention their respective successors. Andrew Kim has come up with a conceptual all-in-one solution to house all your iDevices, calling it the Polyply. This stand will hold the collection of iDevices in a way that is easy to juice up and orient accordingly, and you gotta give Andrew credit for letting the keyboard play nice with the iPad, while the iMac remains in the background for that added effect – making your secondary display setup look by far superior to anything else you’ve most probably seen. The stand itself is made out of acrylate polymer (a kind of plastic), birch plywood and birch.

Sony media products experience shortage as prices
soar

The triple whammy that Japan received from the earthquake, tsunami and potential nuclear fallout is clearly not done with its repercussions just yet – in fact, one of Sony’s key factories that is located in Sendai (which is near the epicenter), has seen extensive damage and hence closed down. This results in Sony being unable to supply professional media products to the world, with other plants being affected as well to result in a tsunami of shortages. That means the prices that you see for remaining quantities of HDCAM, HDCAM-SR, DVCam, BetaCam SP, Digital Betacam, HDV and even Blu-Ray stock are increasing, as the remnant of alternative suppliers are also under great pressure to meet global demand. Good thing that this is a one-off thing, and it shouldn’t lead you to stock up on professional media products in the future just in case, right?
