AMD should be releasing its desktop-oriented 6-core processors, codenamed Thuban, next month. The first release should see four chips, the Phenom II X6 1035T, 1055T (in 95W and 125W TDP versions), and the 1075T being released. The chips, manufactured on the 45nm technology, should be sporting 9MB of cache, not to mention an integrated DDR3 memory controller. While there isn’t any pricing information available just yet, thanks to leaked CPU support lists, we do know that the X6 1035T will sport 6-cores at 2.6GHz, while the X6 1055T will be clocked at 2.8GHz. Finally, the Phenom II X6 1075T will be clocked at 3.0GHz. Do you think that the chips will give Intel’s Core i7 a run for its money?

It’s still unconfirmed, but word is going around that Intel is struggling to meet the demand for its new family of Core mobile processors. The chips, which are expected to be used in the upcoming updates for Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro lines are in high demand, apparently Acer has made a rather large order for Intel’s latest Core i3/i5/i7 chips, and coupled with Apple’s chip requirements, this is going to give second-tier and smaller notebook makers a hard time. Hopefully Intel manages to get its supply issues sorted out soon, as we certainly want to see new notebooks rocking the latest processors, don’t we?

While we can scoff and laugh at researchers’ attempts to come up with journalistic robots now, there’s probably going to be a real threat to our jobs from them a few years down the line. The researchers at the Intelligent Systems Informatics Lab in Tokyo have come up with a robot that seems intent on becoming a journalist. The robot is capable of autonomously exploring its surroundings, and if it notices any changes in the setting, it will snap a picture via its on-board camera, and upload it to the web with a short article. To make things creepier, the robot doesn’t mind questioning people nearby for information, so expect to get an interview with this robot if it happens to be in your vicinity. You may scoff at it now, but we’d like to keep an eye on this, job security, you know?

Most parents would cringe at this, but that’s precisely what Nintendo’s general manager, Shigeru Miyamoto, wants to do. What are we talking about? Well, Nintendo is trying to get its Nintendo DS handheld gaming device into junior high schools in Japan. The portable gaming console is already used for guiding tours in museums, galleries and aquariums in Japan, and the company now wants to see it used as an educational aid as well. It’s not entirely clear how the DS might be used to aid education, but with games such as Brain Age, it’s not hard to imagine companies coming up with the right material/games.

Everyone knows that having a touchscreen display these days is the in thing, which could be why Panasonic decided to throw in such a screen into their KX-NT400 IP phone. Granted, this will most probably be seen at offices instead of a regular home, as this business phone will let you make full use of its 5.7" color touchscreen display to achieve quick and convenient access to Panasonic network cameras (up to 20 network cameras) as well as business applications on your company Intranet. Additional features include Bluetooth connectivity, four dozen programmable soft keys, an Easy Navigation Key for fast one-touch access to phone functions and Power over Ethernet capability among others.

Boy, is that one of the longest product names that we've come across so far - the iHome iP39 Kitchen Timer and FM Alarm Clock Radio Speaker System for iPhone/iPod. As though there isn't enough iPod or iPhone speaker docks to go around already, iHome adds to the crowd with the iP39, where it comes in a mixture of stainless steel and black, enabling it to fit into most modern homes without looking like an eyesore. You have dual alarms that allow you to wake up to your favorite tunes on your iPod or subject your ears to the random tunes of the local radio station via its FM radio. Apart from that, dual kitchen timers help you keep track of two dishes simultaneously, ensuring your guests do not end up with a burnt lunch. Would you fork out $99.99 for the iP39?

Word has it that the folks at Olympus are working on a brand new Micro Four Thirds camera, and this time round with an integrated Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). At least that is what we garnered from Olympus managers who claim that "the technology is already here…". We do know that the Olympus E-5 has a chance of making an appearance at Photokina this year, with three more Micro Four Thirds lenses to roll out before the year is over. So many rumors, but we have 9 more months to let you know whether they are valid or not.
