NEC NP905 and NP901W installation projectors

NEC NP905 and NP901W installation projectors

NEC Display Solutions has announced the NP905 and NP901W installation projectors, two full-featured, network-compatible projectors developed for corporate conference rooms and classrooms.

NEC NP905 and NP901W installation projectors

At 3000 lumens and 2000 lumens, respectively, the bright NP905 and NP901W projectors include Windows Network Projector functionality within Windows Vista, enabling users to share information from their laptops or desktops via a wired or wireless network without the need for proprietary software. Remote desktop connection enables these projectors to connect to a networked computer remotely, allowing complete control of the remote computer with the connection of a USB mouse and keyboard directly to the projector's USB input. Remote diagnostics enable the administrator to monitor and make adjustments to the projector remotely via a network.

Other advanced features included with the NP905 and NP901W are the geometric correction tool, which allows users to project on spheres, cylinders and more without distortion, as well as advanced color management, which automatically adjusts for the specific input type, whether it is a presentation, movie or graphics. Their comprehensive input panels include HDMI for high-definition video content, as well as an audio input for every allotted video input. Additionally, the NP905 and NP901W include closed captioning capability for the hearing impaired and a direct power off feature, which provides instantaneous shutdown of the projector, ideal for those users who are constantly on-the-go.

The NP905 and NP901W feature Silicon Optix HQV (Hollywood Quality Video), providing unparalleled scaling of computer signals and high-performance video processing for standard or high-definition video. The technology produces superior video processing using pixel-based, motion-adaptive de-interlacing to remove undesirable motion artifacts typical of interlaced signals. This processing brings home-theater-quality images to meeting rooms and classrooms.

"The NP905 and NP901W are powerhouse projectors that provide high-definition and essential networking capabilities," said Rich McPherson, Product Manager at NEC Display Solutions. "They offer best-in-class image quality and a full list of features that customers have come to expect from NEC, while still remaining affordable."

"NEC has really accomplished something extraordinary here," commented Jim Mannos, President and CEO of Silicon Optix. "The NP905 and NP901W projectors are two of the few products to take full advantage of the HQV scaling and warping technology to provide crystal-clear images regardless of the projection angle or shape of the screen."

The NP905 and NP901W projectors come with a standard two-year limited parts and labor warranty, including the first year of InstaCare, which provides the original owner one year of either next business day exchange or 3-business day repair/return. Registered education users qualify for a three-year limited parts and labor warranty. The NP905 and NP901W include a one-year or 500-hour lamp warranty and will be available for July 2008 shipment at an estimated street price of $1,999.99 and $1,299.99, respectively.

Kaleidescape 1080p Player , 1080p Mini Player

Kaleidescape, Inc., has introduced the 1080p Player and 1080p Mini Player - two Movie Players that produce stunning video quality from ordinary DVDs, providing a viewing experience that rivals Blu-ray.

Kaleidescape 1080p Player , 1080p Mini Player

The new family of Players makes it possible to enjoy the Kaleidescape Experience even with DVDs and CDs that have not been imported into a Kaleidescape System, and a new form factor makes it possible to place a 1080p Mini Player anywhere in the home.

The 1080p Player is designed as a 1U rack mount device, and includes a DVD/CD-ROM drive for import and direct playback of DVDs and CDs. The 1080p Mini Player offers the video and audio performance of the 1080p Player, in a smaller package with a lower price. It is ideal for inconspicuous installation in viewing rooms where owners desire that A/V equipment be hidden.

"These new Players have achieved our goal of producing beautiful high definition video from the DVDs that we've all been collecting for years," said Michael Malcolm, Kaleidescape founder, chairman and CEO. "The new 1080p Players leverage Kaleidescape's extensive Movie Guide database to make the viewing experience even more entertaining. Our patent-pending video bookmarking changes the way rental movies are enjoyed - no more annoying trailers, advertisements and DVD menus. And the compact 1080p Mini Player saves valuable space so customers can enjoy their movies and music in more locations throughout the home."

"The new Kaleidescape Movie Player produces the best quality video I have ever seen from any source device," said David Raife, owner of Paragon Technology Group with offices in Aspen, Vail and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. "It makes DVDs look absolutely beautiful."

Features and Benefits of the New 1080p Players

1080p Video Output - The 1080p Movie Player upscales ordinary DVD content to beautiful high definition video, matching the highest resolution of today's display devices without the added cost and complexity of an external scaler. Crystal clear video and amazingly accurate colors provide a viewing experience rivaling that of Blu-ray.

Content-Aware Video Processing - The 1080p Movie Player adapts its video processing to the type of content being viewed to achieve results that are impossible for an external scaler. For example, the onscreen display (OSD) with its sharp edges and high contrast is processed differently than movies, which contain motion and natural colors. Information in Kaleidescape's extensive Movie Guide database is also used to tailor the viewing experience, for example, to automatically detect and expand movies to fill a 16:9 display without any user intervention.

Advanced DVD and CD Playback Features - The Kaleidescape Experience is now available for DVDs and CDs that have not been imported. The user may insert a disc into a 1080p Player and enjoy detailed information about the movie or album, including cover art, movie synopsis, album review, and track names. Selecting "Play Movie" on the OSD starts the movie instantly, without trailers or advertisements - even for rental movies! These features combine to make the 1080p Player the ultimate DVD/CD player.

Full Import Control - The 1080p Player prevents accidental imports of DVDs and CDs for less worrisome enjoyment of borrowed or rented movies. The import process is only initiated with a press of the Import button on the front panel, or by selecting "Import DVD" or "Import CD" on the OSD.

Small Size and Near-Silent Operation - The 1080p Mini Player's small size and near-silent operation make it an ideal free-standing device sitting on a shelf in the viewing room, hidden behind a plasma display, concealed in a cabinet, or mounted recessed in a wall or behind a piece of furniture. Installed in the viewing room and connected to a Kaleidescape Server via Ethernet, the 1080p Mini Player allows for 1080p video quality in more locations throughout the home.

Myriad Installation Options - The 1080p Mini Player includes a mounting bracket, making it quick to attach to any surface. Its mounting options allow for inconspicuous installation in a viewing room where the ability to import or play directly from DVDs and CDs is unnecessary. An optional rack-mount kit secures two 1080p Mini Players in a 1U shelf, doubling the rack density of the 1080p Player.

Availability
The 1080p Player is available now, and the 1080p Mini Player will be available in the second half of July, 2008. For more information, contact Kaleidescape at (888) 352-5343 or (650) 625-6150, email sales@kaleidescape.com, or visit www.kaleidescape.com.

Samsung SE-T084M/RSWD

Samsung is expanding its TruDirect line of optical disc drives with the development of a slim, slot-in external model, the SE-T084M/RSWD.

Samsung's revolutionary TruDirect technology allows consumers to create DVDs and burn digital content through a PC without the need for a hard drive. The time-saving TruDirect[tm] SE-T084M provides easy and fast real-time recording of DVDs.

"Samsung offers consumers best-of-breed technologies and the new TruDirect SE-T084M continues to lead the pack in ODD innovation. With its slim and light portable design, the TruDirect SE-T084M lets users easily create DVDs more quickly and conveniently than ever before," said Richard Aguilera, national sales manager, Samsung Storage Division.

Samsung's External TruDirect[tm] drive weighs less than one pound and even works without a power cord. To make a DVD movie with TruDirect[tm], users only need to connect a digital video camera to their PC, press 'PLAY' on the camera, click the TruDirect shortcut icon that pops up in the TruDirect? program window, and then click the 'RECORD' icon. All you need is a PC and TruDirect? to turn wherever you are into a true DVD creation studio.

Compared to using a hard disk drive, the TruDirect SE-T084M dramatically cuts down on the time it takes to create DVDs as no pre-mastering, multiplexing or hard-disk buffering is needed, enabling real-time, fast, and simple recording of personal videos, photos or data files onto DVD discs. Creating a DVD of a one-hour video stream generally takes one hour and five minutes and to create a DVD on the TruDirect SE-T084M from a one-hour hard disk drive camcorder file of approximately 4.1GBs just takes 30 minutes.

In addition to DVD creation, the TruDirect SE-T084M features some of the fastest speeds of an optical disc drive on the market today. It features 8X DVD+R and DVD-R writing, 6X DVD+R and -R Dual Layer writing, and 5X DVD-RAM writing.

The TruDirect SE-T084M will be shipping in July 2008 with a $149 MSRP.

daisy charge box pbteen.jpg
As much as I love my gadgets it does feel a little like tempting fate to display them all the time. Surely an envious pair of hands might grab my beloved Nokia Prism while it's charging or finagle my Sansa Fuze as it sits next to the plug socket.
