Sony PlayStation controller used in robbery
attempt

PlayStation controllerA man was recently arrested for trying to rob a convenience store with the use of a Sony PlayStation controller. He had kept it in his pocket, pretending that it was a gun while attempting to rob the store. Unfortunately for him, there was a police officer who walked into the store in the middle of the robbery. Apparently the policeman was tipped off about the robber’s presence, and the robber was a man the policeman was looking for.

ASUS updates U43SD bamboo laptop

ASUS U43SD bamboo laptopWith the introduction of Intel’s latest Sandy Bridge processors, it’s a no brainer to assume that laptops will be getting upgrades to the new processors as well, especially popular models like ASUS’s bamboo laptop. The U43SD laptop has been refreshed with brand new processors and some minor updates.

The U43SD now packs a larger 14″ screen, the latest Core i3 and Core i5 processors, an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M graphics card (1GB), 5,400RPM and 7,200RPM hard drive options and a six or eight-cell battery. Other than that, not much has changed, and let’s not forget about the sleek bamboo material used to furnish parts of the laptop.

ASUS has also introduced the U41SV which has the same configuration as the U43SD, except that it comes in a plain shell instead of the lustrous bamboo used in the U43SD. No word on pricing or availability yet, but expect an official announcement soon, since the tablets have already been photographed like they’re ready to go on sale. Head over to the official ASUS website to find out more about the U43SD and the U41SV.

Intel Sandy Bridge Overclocking Guide

Rules change and we need to be at the top of the technology to understand how new architectures work with our new components. Overclocking is a sport which has passed lots of different generations (people and platforms) and from time to time, the way you do it changes a lot. At Benchmark Reviews we put all our effort to bring you reviews and articles covering most of the new products as they arrive to the market, but we also focus a lot on enthusiasts who want to get the best out of their hardware without paying extra money; obviously by overclocking their PC components. With the launch of the new Sandy Bridge processors we feel the necessity to prepare an Overclocking analysis mainly because Intel completely changed the rules. Overclocking is now 99% limited to unlocked processors, and to mid-high platforms, while low-mid platforms and non-unlocked processors can't simply be overclocked more than some extra MHz. Follow us while we put into test both the Core i5 2500K and the Core i7 2600K paired with the P67 Express platform and discover how they work against voltage, heat and power consumption.

BlackBerry PlayBook gets taken apart

iFixit PlayBook

The PlayBook only went on sale earlier today, but the folks over at iFixit wasted no time in getting their hands on one and having a go at disassembling the QNX tablet from RIM. While there’s nothing extremely interesting about this tablet’s innards, iFixit have noted that it was relatively easy to take apart, and the LCD isn’t fused to the glass, so a cracked screen doesn’t mean an expensive replacement, which should be good news for folks who are careless with their gadgets.

The tablet contains the usual assortment of parts ? radio, camera, gyroscope, accelerometer, battery, two microphones (probably for noise reduction). Some interesting things they noticed was that the front camera, rear camera and top control buttons are all attached as one assembly ? replacement of broken power or volume buttons are going to be very costly. And also, the battery is glued to the mid-plane assembly, so removal of the motherboard is necessary if you’d like to change the PlayBook’s battery yourself.

If you’ve always been curious about what goes on inside the tablet but you’re afraid to take it apart yourself, you can head over to iFixit to read the full teardown guide yourself. And make sure you really know what you’re doing if you plan on taking the tablet apart.

When Googles Panda Rewards Content Theft

Google-Panda-Algorithm-UpdaIf you’re a webmaster who cares about Search Engines, you have heard about the Google “Panda” Update. Here’s what the update was about, in Google’s own terms:

“Google depends on the high-quality content created by wonderful websites around the world, and we do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem. Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that?s exactly what this change does.” (Google)

As usual, with each update, some sites go up, and some go down. There is usually an uproar in the various webmaster forums as well. Traffic fluctuates, and we usually don’t pay too much attention to this. However, for the first time in our 5 years as a web publisher, we have noticed some very bizarre behaviors that other site owners should look into.
