Sharper Image has come up with its own 008TSI Slider Bluetooth handset that works with just about any SIM card - giving you the freedom of doing away with locked SIM-card phones. I suppose this $249.95 offering works great for those who are still using archaic handsets looking for an upgrade and don't want the experience of being locked to another 2-year plan. Features are pretty ordinary though - you get a 262k color display, a VGA camera, MP3 and video playback, a microSD memory card slot, and even a Web browser. Talk time stands at 6 hours per USB charge, while standby time is 300 hours long.

If you're sick and tired of seeing fish swim around aimlessly to keep you de-stressed after a long day at work, the LED Jellyfish Mood Lamp could be a viable alternative. Featuring a trio of jellyfish that move around the tank, half a dozen bright LEDs located at the top of the tank set the mood and tone of your surroundings. You can opt to have them change from one color to the next discreetly, or just keep your favorite color on at all times. The LED Jellyfish Mood Lamp retails for $49.99 a pop.

Robots will probably be a staple gift during holiday seasons in the coming years, and the Pirkus-R Type-01 DX from Robot Labs of Japan is certainly one gift idea to consider if you have deep pockets. Retailing for a whopping £1,090, this robot kit was recently improved with updated actuators and gyro sensors to further augment his already-impressive bipedal walking ability. Standing over 30cm tall, the Pirkus can be controlled from a computer or, get this - a cellphone via Bluetooth. Not all cellphones can be used as a remote control though, just those which are capable of running BREW-based communications software. The Pirkus is smart enough to 'remember' faces and can even seek out a selected person thanks to its face recognition ability.

Just in case you're a cop who wants to know just how much heroin the junkie down the road is peddling, the Micro Mini Pocket Scale is for you. Of course, it could be used in other settings such as the kitchen, but the whole point of such a device would be to see how much an object weighs in g, oz, dwt, ct and gs scales. It is powered by a trio of 1.5V batteries, letting you use this even when there is no power outlet in sight. The Micro Mini Pocket Scale measures an extremely portable 156.5mm x 76mm x 18mm while weighing 167 grams and comes with a digital LCD display and automatic power-off. No word on pricing on the product page though.

Digital photo frames are dime a dozen these days, but the Egg Digital Photo Frame certainly comes in a form factor that is different from all those rectangular blocks you're used to seeing. Features are nothing to shout about though, with a 1.5" CSTN color display, 8MB of integrated flash memory with support for BMP and JPEG formats, a clock and a brightness control to help conserve battery power. You can toggle between manual mode and slideshows, depending on the audience of two (at best - if there are more than a couple of people involved, be prepared for them to look elsewhere to be entertained no thanks to the tiny display!).

Pyglet is the brainchild of a quartet from the University of Adelaide, and this device rips and transfers songs from a CD to a portable music player without the need for a computer. I guess this would come in handy only if you don't have a single computer in your life, but otherwise it is pretty redundant since just about anyone with a portable media player of some kind already owns a computer, with tons of free ripping programs to choose from. Heck, even some PMPs can already encode to MP3 themselves thanks to line-in jacks. Still, it would be interesting to see if this $150 device would be able to make some headway into the highly competitive consumer electronics market when it is finally released on a commercial basis.
