Engineers from the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute have managed to conjure up technology which makes room for a new “separator” which is resistant to external heat and impact. This bodes well for current battery technology, where high temperatures and weakness to impact have been cited as reasons for causing fires and explosions in battery cells. This new separator is created by mixing polyethylene, nano-alumina and flourine-based resin, hitting it with radiation after that in order to weed out older technologies' weaknesses. Initial tests point towards the new separator being successful as it can maintain its ability to function as an electric insulator even when the mercury hits 150 degrees Celsius and it undergoes considerable external impact.

The Tio ghost concept by designer Tim Holley is meant to teach kids the value of conserving electricity in a fun manner - each switch will remain green whenever the switch has been left on for an hour or less, and the longer they are left switched on, the color will gradually make a switch to yellow, ending up with an angry red in the end. At least it helps those who have not grasped the concept of time in this manner, but that can only happen when it moves beyond the conceptual stage.

There is nothing quite like having an atomic clock in your home to keep track of time - after all, that has the least amount of discrepancies with the current national time. This is where the SecureShot clock comes in, where it will rely on an atomic clock to remain accurate under all circumstances, and even better is the fact that it boasts a discreet thermal motion-activated spy cam which is capable of sensing body heat up to 30 feet away, and is touted to not have a negative impact on battery life when the sensors are in standby mode. Slot in an SD memory card and you can have up to 20 hours of VGA quality video. The price to pay? $649 a pop.
