AT&T has a problem concerning the amount of spectrum it has available to open up to the masses, and they are currently mulling over whether they should pop open their bank account to pick up Dish Networks. After all, Dish Networks did mention in the past that they are interested in picking up T-Mobile should AT&T’s bid for the fourth largest mobile carrier in the US fail. AT&T executives are wondering whether they should pick up Dish Network in order to add more spectrum to the company, and according to Bloomberg, such a deal would definitely cost AT&T a premium – where some have ranked it to be potentially the highest amount paid in over ten years where a tech takeover is concerned.
AT&T’s nine month courtship for T-Mobile’s hand amounted to nothing, and this has enabled bitter rivals Verizon Wireless to gain more ground, while AT&T had to give up some of its own spectrum to T-Mobile in return as part of a break-up fee, as AT&T distanced themselves from the deal after a regulatory deadlock. Do you think AT&T is willing to part with a 72% premium to bring home Dish Networks under their wings?

Last week the Call of Duty: Elite app for iOS devices was officially released, and this week Android users can finally get into the action. In case you’re in the dark about Call of Duty: Elite, it’s Activision’s online service for its Call of Duty games which lets users check their scores, ranking, achievements, connect with other players, and even select their loadouts. Users can also find out how to improve their games and by analyzing their recent matches.
However, judging by the reviews of the app, it looks like Activision has got some fixing to do before the majority of users get a satisfying experience with the app for Android. There are complaints about the app not scaling to fit the screen, and users having login problems. Fortunately the app is free, so give it a shot by downloading it from the Android Market.

Keeping up to date with the latest fashion as well as haute couture can be quite a challenge, even more so on your wallet. Apple might want to have a say in this potentially lucrative department by patenting clothes that are capable of letting you know just how many times you have worn that particular shirt, sweater or cardigan, and alerting you to the fact that it is time to update your wardrobe already. Some of us are far more comfortable in an old T-shirt that has seen us through the good times and the bad, even though there are more holes in it than a beehive. It is definitely an interesting patent by Apple, and Cupertino is also going to dip their fingers of such technology into the stinky world of running shoes as well, where new footwear of the future can deliver real-time feedback that lets you know of your running style and whether your current workout is as consistent as those in the past or not. An iShirt, or a pair of iShoes down the road, perhaps?

Today LG announced the launch of its first LTE-capable tablet, the Optimus Pad LTE. The tablet features LTE connectivity, an 8.9″ True HD (1280 x 720) IPS display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front facing camera, a Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Android 3.2 Honeycomb, 32GB of internal storage, microSD card slot (up to 32GB), HDMI output, DLNA, and a 6,800mAh battery.
No word on whether the tablet will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich, but the tablet will be initially launched in South Korea before it makes its way to the rest of the world. The True HD display and LTE connectivity will definitely draw a lot of people, but the lack of Ice Cream Sandwich might turn off folks who don’t want to wait for an upgrade for the tablet.

Dell?s Alienware X51 desktop gaming PC marks a major turn for the Alienware brand. We all know the the brand for its ?absolute performance? orientation, and if you?ve tried to lift a ?classic? Alienware Desktop system, you know that these were not the kind of things that one would put in a living room, or bring to a friend?s place for an afternoon. The Alienware X51 is just the opposite: it?s a small desktop machine that can fit discreetly on your desk, or in your living room next to the game console. The computer is designed to play the latest ?PC games? at framerates north of 30FPS ? and yes, that includes Battlefield 3 at ?high quality settings?. While walking around the Alienware launch event, I have been able to eyeball a number of games that ran at 60FPS as well. (more…)

Now here is a tablet from Fujitsu – the Fujitsu M532, which is surprising to stumble upon simply because Fujitsu is not exactly well known for its prowess in the tablet department to date. It seems that the Fujitsu M532 has a statement of intent to make, considering how it comes with a Tegra 3 chipset within, with word that it will hit the market this May (no idea if that is the Japanese market or otherwise). Apart from the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, the M532 will also come with a display that packs in 1280 x 800 pixels, 16GB of internal memory, a 3-megapixel camera in front and an 8-megapixel shooter at the rear. Word on the street has it that this will carry a ?499 price tag, although that has yet to be finalized. We do look forward to it arrive with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Check out a video of the Fujitsu M532 in action after the jump. (more…)

Earlier this morning, we brought you word from Boy Genius Report that there is the possibility of Research In Motion (RIM) being bought over by Samsung Electronics, and following that report, shares of the BlackBerry smartphone manufacturer reacted positively, surging over 10% in value. Samsung spokesperson James Chung played the role of being a wet blanket by issuing this particular statement that claims otherwise, “We haven’t considered acquiring the firm and are not interested in (buying RIM).”
According to Chung, Samsung had not been approached by RIM to date concerning a takeover, so I guess this is where the apple cart stops. What do you think the future would hold for RIM, and if Samsung were to purchase RIM, what kind of advantages the South Korean company would be able to benefit from? I guess RIM would just have to chin up, and make sure that their upcoming two tablets as well as BlackBerry 10 powered smartphone will be able to carry the company forward down the road.
