Now this Ghost Rider is not going to give you the Penance Stare, although if you’re a parent and use it on your kids, you might give the Penance Stare to them when they have been caught to go to places which they weren’t supposed to. Of course, the Ghost Rider GPS tracker will also work just fine for those who suffer from short term memory loss or Alzheimer?s, since it lets you know where your vehicle or other household items are at the same time. Measuring just 4? x 2.5?, it is portable enough to be placed just about anywhere. All tracking data collected can be sent at intervals of 10 seconds to five minutes, where software on a computer lets that data be reviewed. It will cost you $395 upfront, where the monthly service begins from $16.95 onwards for 500 locations and can hit as high as $80 for unlimited locations per unit.

At long last, if you’re rocking to a Samsung Epic 4G and Sanyo Zio, you would do well to mark February 21st on your calendar – after all, that is the day where the Android 2.2 Froyo update will roll out for both handsets, with the Epic 4G taking around 4 days for a nationwide release, while the Zio will require another additional day – this means you shouldn’t fret if friends in other states have already received their updates next Monday, you might get yours over the week instead. The Samsung Epic 4G will receive the EB13 build of Froyo, while the Zio will get build number 2.200SP, where among the listed changes include the addition of Swype, Sprint Zone 2.5.5, Sprint ID activation improvements and superior battery life.

Word on the street has it that the newer generation of Windows Phones will see the ST-Ericsson U8500 chipset inside, which is different from the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform for current Windows Phone handsets. Reuters, after all, has reported that the CEO of ST-Ericsson mentioned their U8500 platform is more than ready to burst forth for Nokia’s use when they begin to sell Windows Phones, not to mention ?a lot of new Tier 1 customers are using our platforms?. The U8500 is pretty similar to the Samsung Exynos 4210 in many ways, where they share a pair of ARM Cortex A9 processors and an ARM Mali 400 GPU. What makes the U8500 different is the integrated HSPA modem that handles a theoretical 21Mbps download speed – although real world performance will obviously be slower than that. Other hardware specifications included are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS support and an FM radio.

Word on the street has it that Samsung is working on a new variant of the Galaxy S II (or S 2, whichever rocks your boat) – by throwing in the Tegra 2 chipset from NVIDIA. Currently, we do know that the MWC version did rely on Samsung’s very own dual-core Exynos SoC (System on a Chip), although the Samsung SoC might not be applicable to selected regions, as benchmark tests have proven that the Tegra 2 still leads the Exynos by a whisker. Should such reports prove accurate, this shows that Samsung is willing to release different component builds in various markets as they have done with their first-generation Galaxy S and Nexus S, having come in AMOLED and LCD displays .

The iPad as well as the foresight to purchase components earlier than the rest has led Apple to consume 60% of the world’s manufacturing capacity for touch panels, and as the law of supply and demand comes in to action, you can expect nothing less than a bidding war between competitors for the remaining supply. Kudos once again to the business acumen of the folks over at the fruity company, having picked up 65 million iPad displays around 2 months back, and this has caused their competitors to pay more and outbid each other for the remaining scraps – which would mean a higher cost of manufacturing in the end, and making it harder to turn a profit if they want to price their tablets competitively. Logically speaking, this could be why there is a deluge of 7″ tablet devices that have flooded the market recently.

The iPad has truly revolutionized the way we look at tablet devices, where it has become a multimedia powerhouse full of apps and games, hence making it one of the bigger sellers in the market where tablets are concerned. Sony doesn’t want to miss out on the tablet game either, and intends to roll out tablet PCs which sport multimedia functionalities sometime in Q2 this year, where the production will most likely be outsourced to Quanta Computer, although Quanta has not commented on such reports to validate industry sources rumors. Sony’s range of tablets will be powered by Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system, and this means we will see Angry Birds on that platform as well. Sony hopes that their tablets will deliver a seamless experience when it comes to digital games, music and e-book reading, having already picked up PlayStation verification in the process.

My horizontal parking skills are up to snuff, but there are some people out there who find it pretty difficult and challenging. Well, good thing there are concepts to tickle our imagination, right? Meet MET (LOL, that’s funny), a two-person vehicle is perfect for the single person family of the future, where it was specially designed to meet the social constructs of future families, as well as running on a fully electric platform. There is no need to stash away those massive battery packs, since the rear wheel itself contains the battery which can then be swapped for a charge one at public stations or home charging units. Of course, we would assume that by the time such technology is available, would batteries used in electric vehicles be so light that even a child can carry it?

There is a spanking new Apple patent filing that was published by the USPTO, which could potentially lead to a significantly longer battery life in future Apple products – just when you thought that the iPad’s battery life was already the bomb. Well, we could certainly make do with superior battery life in iPhones and MacBooks as well, alongside other hardware which come with lithium-ion or lithium-ion packs. Using a multi-step, constant-current, constant-voltage (CC-CV) will actually increase the capacity of the battery without having to suffer its physical size by a decrease. Current-day batteries require longer anodes and cathodes to draw in more current and make the battery bigger. This new technique will be able to overcome such problems by offering a higher state of charge and being overly sensitive to temperature. Apple hopes that this approach will prevent excess wear on the battery, as well as increase efficiency in the process.
