For One Night London Was Home To The Largest
Lightsaber In The World

By Andrew Liszewski Last night the good people of London, England were privy to one of the coolest marketing stunts I’ve seen in a while. Worried that there still might be in excess of 10 people on this planet who weren’t already aware that Star Wars was being released on Blu-ray, Lucasfilm turned the 581 [...]

Seven states oppose AT&T-T-Mobile merger

AT&T-T-MobileBad news for AT&T and those in favor of the carrier’s attempted acquisition of T-Mobile. It looks like the Department of Justice has garnered more troops in support of opposing the merger. It has been reported that seven states will be backing the Department of Justice’s lawsuit against AT&T. The seven states against the merger are: New York, Washington, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio and Pennsylvania. With over a third of the American population, living in these states combined, it looks like AT&T doesn’t really have a lot of support from the public. There’s still no telling if the deal will go through or not, but for now, the chances are definitely looking slim.

Microsoft App Store Approach for Windows 8 Metro
Apps

Windows 8
It’s hard to deny that the (Apple) App Store is not a huge success, and it looks like Microsoft is taking a page from Apple’s book, as it announced at the BUILD conference this week that Windows 8 will have an app store that users will have to use in order to purchase/download content for the tablet. Fortunately it’s only going to be for the Metro UI version of Windows 8 ? “Classic” Windows 8 will still have apps that don’t have to be purchased from the app store. So if you’re a firm believer of purchasing software that’s still distributed in boxes or apps that probably won’t have a chance of making it in the Windows 8 app store, you’ve got nothing to worry about. Windows is still an “open” OS in that respect.

Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 gameplay trailer released

Battlefield 3 Xbox 360

This time around, they’ve released the first full-length trailer that features the first ever official Xbox 360 gameplay footage for Battlefield 3. Xbox 360 owners, you’ll probably want to hit the replay over and over again – it’s that good. It features some scenes similar to the PC trailer shown last week, but you get a minute of extra footage to drool over. There’s really nothing else to say, so I’ll let the trailer speak for itself, catch it after the break:

BlackBerry Bold 9980 spotted next to T-Mobile
Bold 9900

Bold 9980 vs Bold 9900

Remember the funky looking BlackBerry Bold 9980 that is said to be designed by Porsche? Well, more high quality photographs of the phone have surfaced again, and this time it is placed side by side with a T-Mobile Bold 9900 phone for comparison of size and parts. In addition to more detailed photographs about the phone, there are screenshots showing the phone powered on and running BlackBerry OS 7.

If the phone was a fake or some “Shanzai” copy, whoever created it sure put a lot of effort into duplicating the operating system as well. In fact, it seems to be very much a BlackBerry phone wit if wasn’t for the futuristic looking keyboard and overall design. Perhaps it could have been a prototype model that never made it past the testing stages. What do you think of the Bold 9980? Check out the full set of comparison photographs.

Portal available for free until September 20th

Portal

If you’ve been playing video games for at least the past few years, I’m pretty sure you would have heard of Portal, the highly-acclaimed puzzle game that was released way back in 2007. Well, just like its recent give away of Team Fortress 2 that happened a few months ago, Valve has decided to give Portal away for free. But unlike TF2 which Valve made free to play permanently, this giveaway will only last until September 20th.

This give away is in conjunction with its learnwithportals.com website where it attempts to boost kids’ interests in physics, math, logic among other things. Sure, Portal might be more entertaining than Physics or Advanced Math in school, but that doesn’t make it any less challenging to complete. While most of you probably own this game already, for those of you who don’t, this is one sweet freebie that you shouldn’t pass up on. Head over to learnwithportals.com for more details.
