When the HTC Thunderbolt was first announced, one of its main features was its ability to support Skype video calls. But as we got closer to the release of the device, Verizon mentioned that Skype wouldn’t be ready in time for its launch. And now, with the phone officially announced to arrive tomorrow Skype is not only unavailable on the Android phone, but it looks like it might never be released for it at all. All the web pages and content online on HTC’s and Verizon’s sites have removed all mentions of the Skype feature ? as if it was never meant to be on the phone in the first place. The folks over at Droid-Life did some investigation into the matter, and it’s starting to look like one big cover up. There was no explanation to why Skype support has been removed ? a falling out between Skype and Verizon, perhaps? But until further notice, don’t expect to use the ThunderBolt’s front facing cameras for video calls over Skype.

A girl named theofficialLGgirl who was recently chosen to shoot an advertisement for LG’s upcoming G-Slate tablet on T-Mobile, was given her own G-Slate after the shoot, and she recently posted up a video showing off her experience with the tablet. Whether or not it was a biased/sponsored commercial, it sure does a good job of showing off what the tablet can do ? from surfing the web to shooting 3D content with its stereoscopic rear cameras. The tablet, the runs Honeycomb (Android 3.0) on a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, is capable of showing 3D content on the tablet itself (3D glasses needed) in addition to being able to output it onto to the big screen through its HDMI port. There’s still no official release date (besides the very vague spring 2011) and price, but hopefully T-Mobile/LG can clear the air soon. Hit the break to check out the G-Slate video from theofficialLGgirl:

Despite iOS 4.3 Safari getting a boost in the JavaScript performance department, it looks like not all websites are being treated fairly. In this case ? web apps. It has been reported that web apps that have been saved to the homescreen don’t get to make use of the new Nitro JavaScript Engine despite being launched in the Safari web browser as well. Take note that while the web apps don’t get to utilize the Nitro JavaScript Engine, they do run at the same speeds they ran at in iOS 4.2. Some people say that this is Apple’s way of making developers create apps for their App Store instead of focusing on web apps (that are platform-agnostic and can run on any operating system). Other people believe that this is a legitimate bug that hasn’t been addressed by Apple yet because it is the first version of iOS with the Nitro JavaScript Engine and Apple hasn’t enabled it for all apps besides Safari yet. Either way, it doesn’t look too good and hopefully Apple addresses this issue as soon as possible.

Remember the Time Warner Cable iPad app we mentioned yesterday? Well, we have got some bad news for you. Time Warner has announced that they have removed 17 channels from the app ? due to an overwhelming demand that caused problems with the authentication systems. It was either a case of underestimated demand or poor coding ? either way, Time Warner wasn’t prepared for the sudden influx of users and are now working on a way to fix the problem. It wasn’t mentioned which channels were removed, but it looks like you’ll only have 15 out of the 32 channels that were supposed to be available at launch. Good thing it was a free app and not a paid one. How many of you gave the app a go yesterday?
