Nokia sees graphene as new super material

Nokia might have stumbled upon something interesting that could usher in a new age of devices with the possibilities offered by graphene, a new kind of super-material. Graphene isn’t exactly well known, where it is an allotrope of carbon alongside a 2D structure that measures a mere one atom thick – or should we say, thin? Despite being that thin, it is still one of the strongest materials tested ever, boasting a breaking strength that is 300 times greater than steel while being super flexible, light and is an intrinsic conductor par excellence. Industry observers do wonder whether this could be the material of the future, replacing silicon as the base for all electronics – what do you think about it?

Facebook does iPad app at last

Facebook does seem to have yielded to the pressure of not having an iPad app – never mind that the iPhone already has a Facebook app on the Apple App Store when it opened in July a few years ago. Winds of change are a-comin’ as there are industry insiders who claim that Facebook is on its way to introduce a free iPad application which has been specially designed and optimized for the tablet.
In production for almost a year, and having gone through several design iterations, it should be in its final stages of testing now. Other than that, no further details were released, since the product plans are strictly confidential.

LG Optimus 3D set to ship

LG has revealed that they will be shipping their Optimus 3D soon – hitting Europe first before it arrives in the US. This will be their flagship device which is already available for pre-order at Amazon UK, targeting a July 13th shipping date, and if you want to purchase it without a contract, then the price will be a rather steep $969 thereabouts, after conversion, of course. More than 60 other regions will be on the receiving end of the new Optimus 3D within the next several weeks, dropping yet another hint that the AT&T Thrill 4G might be out before summer is over.

The LG Optimus 3D in all its different versions will rely on a dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor to get the hard work done, boasting a 4.3″ glasses-free 3D display as well as the ability to record 3D video in 720p or 1080p video in 2D using its twin rear cameras. Other hardware specifications include an HDMI 1.4 output and DLNA video sharing which sends 3D video over to TVs and the local network.

Nextbook Premium 7 from E FUN

A tablet a day keeps the doctor away – or does it keep boredom away? That’s what the Nextbook Premium 7 from E FUN is all about, where this 7″ capacitive touch-screen Android-powered computer will feature Flash 10.1 support, coupled with Wi-Fi connectivity, an e-reader functionality, Kobo app, SlideME application manager, and the new OfficeSuite Viewer and ASTRO File Manager.

You won’t find Android 3.0 Honeycomb here, so there really isn’t any optimized Android tablet experience, but will instead be powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread. On the bright side, at least the Nextbook Premium 7 can be upgraded in the future thanks to Over The Air (OTA) capabilities. Other hardware specifications include a 1GHz processor, 4GB of built-in flash memory, a SD memory card slot for expansion purposes, a G-sensor and integrated speakers.

HP Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse is now available

As promised, the HP Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse is now available for the masses, just in time for Father’s Day to boot – making it the perfect gift for those who have dads who live out of a suitcase because they do a whole lot of traveling in their line of work and need to work from a notebook all the time. This is different from Bluetooth technology, as it relies on Wi-Fi connectivity and HP Link-5 technology instead to promote mobility and ease of use.

Not only do you get to enjoy a wireless lifestyle, you also have the assurance of extended battery life since this little pointing device sips so little juice in the course of working. Another main advantage that we like about the HP Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse would be doing away with the need for a USB dongle, since it will connect to your notebook via its Wi-Fi receiver – unless you are using a really, really old school notebook that does not have Wi-Fi.

With up to nine months of battery life, 5 customizable buttons, a smooth, four-way-tilt scroll wheel, and a 30-foot working range amongst others, the HP Wi-Fi Mobile Mouse will retail for $49.99.

Wattbike measures how much power you generate
during cycling

Wattbike

If you?ve always wondered about how much power you produce whenever you?re cycling, you won?t have to wonder anymore. (In case you were wondering, cyclists do measure their power output as a way to compare their skills and to measure their growth and progress as an athlete.) Unfortunately, most bikes don?t have the capability to accurately measure how much power a cyclist produces during a bike ride.Well, the folks over at Wattbike have decided to come up with a bicycle to solve such problems.

Tilto: the DIY Segway

Tilto

Segways are cool and plenty of fun to ride but they cost a bomb to purchase. Well, a hobbyist by the name of Marcelo Fornaso decided to put his smarts to the test and came up with his own version of the two-wheeled vehicle. But instead of following the build of the Segway down to a T, Fornaso chose to improve the design by allowing users to turn the vehicle without having to lean outside of the device?s frame.

And thus, Tilto was born. Tilto uses accelerometers and gyroscopes just like the Segway to make it go back and forth, however, it gets rid of the handlebars in favor of a tilting system to turn the vehicle. If users want to turn Tilto, all they have to do is tilt their bodies in the direction they would like to turn to, just like they would if they were on a bicycle. A pretty cool idea, though I doubt we?ll be seeing this device mass produced for everyone to use. Check out a video test of the Tilto in action:
