Google CEO Larry Page now recovering, ailment
remains a mystery

It seems that Google Co-Founder and CEO Larry Page has already recovered from the yet-to-be unveiled illness that affected his voice. This was confirmed by Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt on Thursday last week. Speaking to reporters at Allen & Co.?s conference in Sun Valley, Schmidt said that Page is doing much better saying, “He seems fine.” The 39-year old Larry Page reportedly held a meeting  at Google?s headquarters on Monday last week.

Concern over the Google Co-Founder’s health started last month, when the company announced that Page lost his voice and will not be able to make it to the Google I/O developer conference. However, Google declined to divulge further details about Larry Page’s health, prompting experts to comment that the Mountain View-based tech giant should be more transparent about Larry’s current medical condition, citing how Apple privately handled Steve Jobs’ health as an example and a lesson that we should all learn from.

Simmtronics Xpad: the worlds most affordable
tablet

XPadWhen it comes to Android tablets, there are plenty of choices to choose from especially when it comes to tablets for budget-minded users. Well, it looks like the folks over at Simmtronics want to dominate the market with its upcoming Android tablet – the XPad. Making its debut in the Asia-Pacific region, the Xpad will feature a Cortex Arm 8 CPU running at 1GHz, 4GB of internal storage (microSD card slot included), Android 4.0, a multi-touch display (in 7″, 8″, 9″, 9.7″ and 10″ sizes) and WiFi connectivity. So how cheap is cheap going to be? Well it looks like Simmtronics will be selling the 7″ XPad for $81 – pretty cheap for a tablet if you don’t expect to do any heavy duty gaming on it. But budget-conscious folk probably aren’t going to complain. No word on a US release yet, but we’ll find out in due time.

Human-spider hybrid boss character for Resident
Evil 6 revealed by the ESRB

Resident Evil 6Resident Evil 6 is expected to see a release on the 2nd of October, but for those who can?t wait and want to know as much as possible about the game, well thanks to the ESRB, one of the game?s bosses has been revealed. For those wondering, the ESRB is the rating board that deems whether a game is meant for kids or if they might be too graphic/violent/sexual and should be played only by adults. According to the ESRB, one of the game?s bosses has been described as:

One female boss character (a human-spider hybrid) is depicted nude?though without any discernible details (i.e., no nipples or genitalia); during one attack move, she briefly caresses her breasts while straddling on players? character.

Unfortunately no screenshots were provided along with the description, but we guess it should be enough to appease fans of the game ? at least for now.

Steam app for Android spotted with non-game
categories

Steam is Valve?s portal where they sell games, let users come together and communicate and play games together. The mobile app allows users to chat and stay connected with their friends, read the latest news and participate in Steam sales as well, but is gaming all Valve has in store for Steam? Perhaps not. Thanks to the folks at The Verge, the Steam app for Android has been snapped and shows a more extensive genre list, such as Accounting, Audio Production, Education, Photo Editing and other non-game related categories. Could Valve be looking at offering non-game apps of their own, or allowing the Steam mobile app to double as an app store of their own as well? There?s no guarantee that such a thing could be happening, but it is interesting to see that Valve could be considering that. There has not been official word from the company yet.

LEGO Portal set one step closer to reality

LEGO PortalGood news for those of you who voted for the Portal 2 set LEGO concept – it looks like the project is one step closer to being a real, official product. Shortly after the project went live on CUUSOO, it managed to get over 10,000 votes and sure enough – the staff at LEGO are now taking the idea into consideration. However, we are warned that this means we’ll be seeing LEGO Portal 2 sets being sold in stores next month. There’s still a lot of work to be done if the project gets approved, not to mention the licensing deal LEGO would have to work out with Valve in order for it to happen. However, a release this Christmas would probably be perfect timing but for now, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed. In the mean time, you can probably check out LEGO’s Lord of the Rings sets that will go on sale next month.

PolyCom RealPresence Mobile 1.3 Lets Users
Control the Camera

Video conferencing accessible from any devices including TVs is a trendy feature nowadays.  We have published about Polycom, one of the leading providers of enterprise video conferencing services, when it launched it mobile solution, RealPresence Mobile, last October.

Today, RealPresence Mobile 1.3 launched and it gets a very interesting new feature for iOS: the ability for users on the other end to control the camera during a video conferencing session. This is particularly useful for medical applications: a doctor can zoom in the video to better see a patient (see photo). Orlando Health, a provider of healthcare services in central Florida, is providing RealPresence Mobile to its neurology clinicians to help them remotely connect with patients ? we will update this article with a video related to the use of RealPresence Mobile by Orlando Health.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean now on HTC HD2

HTC HD2The HTC HD2 sure is one amazing phone. If having an outdated version of Android on the phone isn’t enough, it looks like you can have Jelly Bean on it too. The folks over at XDA-Developers managed to port over Android 4.1 Jelly Bean onto the phone and it seems to be working fine albeit with some problems. Video playback or the camera isn’t working, and neither is USB mass storage. There are problems with the web browser, some apps not working and Google Now crashing but hey – it’s a start.

Considering how only 10% of Android devices are running on Ice Cream Sandwich, it’s a pretty big deal for this almost 3-year-old phone to be updated with the latest version of the operating system. It’s a long way from being polished, but if you’re keen on checking it out, just head over to XDA-developers for the files.
