HTC EVO 3D and EVO Design 4G owners who haven’t bothered with custom ROMs should be glad to know that they will be getting the second latest version of Android very soon. According to an official announcement from Sprint, the two Android phones will be receiving Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in early August – which hopefully translates to less than a month away. While it’s not Jelly Bean, I guess it’s better than being stuck on Gingerbread.
The update to Ice Cream Sandwich will introduce a bunch of new features for the phone including a brand new UI, Face Unlock, a redesigned camera app, Google Chrome, an improved keyboard, an updated Gmail app, and more. Let’s hope Sprint and HTC can deliver the goods next month. Stay tuend for more details.

Add to myYahoo! If you’ve been doubting the usability of popular photo sharing apps such as Instagram on the Google Nexus 7 tablet due its rather tad 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera, then you might as well check out the latest update of the Instagram app for Android on Google Play. There?s good news because Instagram for Android is now supporting Google’s first tablet and first device running Android 4.1 a.k.a. Jelly Bean. Version 1.1.7 of Instagram for Android also brings along with it the capability to share photos directly to Flickr. Get the app now via Google Play. Instagram for Android was first launched in April this year. So, to all Google Nexus 7 owners out there, does this sound like music to your ears?

If you like the idea of broadcasting messages from space, the SkyCube might just be your cup of tea. The makers of SkySafari astronomy apps have just launched their latest project on Kickstarter called SkyCube. Basically it’s a nano-satellite that will be shot out to space and will orbit the planet for 90 days and then shoot back down to earth. When the satellite is in space, it can broadcast messages from users and snap pictures for users to download onto their smartphones.
If you’ve ever wanted to be part of a space mission without having to actually get into a suit and strap yourself to a rocket, the SkyCube comes pretty close. However, the project is still a long way off from its target of $82,500 but it has 57 days to go. Pledges start at $1 for a single message broadcast (120-characters), and $6 for six messages and one photograph. However, if you’re feeling rich, you’ll be able to pledge as much as $10,000 for an exclusive invitation and flight tickets to the launch, 10,000 message broadcasts, up to 2,000 images, a movie of Earth from orbit, a radio receiver, and T-shirts.

Add to myYahoo! If you thought your 40″ display was awesome for gaming, wait until you check out Norman Design’s latest project: a portable 160″ curved screen solution. Designed for drivers and customers with deep-enough wallets, this gigantic display was built to give users an immersive experience when it comes to F1 training. While it’s not something you expect to move around the room every now and then, it only weighs 50kg, which means it shouldn’t be too hard to do so with a couple of people.
Special software is required for a computer to work the projectors behind the display, but other than that it should work on any regular PC (with good enough specs to support high-res gaming). Customers can pick one up for $28,570 with a bundled PC or $114,285 with a movable F1 car cockpit, the computer and DiRT 3 as well. Check out the video demonstration above to see it in action.

Yahoo! has been struggling to make a significant impact on the internet for the past few years, and besides its popular email service, Yahoo! Mail, it’s got nothing on its main competitors. Well, it looks like that might change in the future – according to a report from the New York Times, Yahoo! has got a new weapon in its arsenal: one of Google’s top executives (now-ex), Marissa Mayer. After working in Google for the past 13 years, she will now be taking over the reins at Yahoo! starting tomorrow.
Marissa Mayer was Google’s first female engineer, and has been crucial in the search engine giant’s success. Mayer was also responsible for Google’s white search homepage, Gmail, Google News, Google Images and was recently put in charge of Google Maps as well. This comes as a huge blow to Google, seeing how those services are some of the company’s most popular offerings. No word on what Mayer has in store for Yahoo!, but we should find out soon enough.

Add to myYahoo!Good news to all Batman fans out there! Gameloft has just announced its tie-in game for the The Dark Knight Rises movie that is set to launch on theaters beginning July 20. The video game developer recently released a teaser for the game with the same name, as you see in the video above. The Dark Knight Rises video game will be coming to iOS and Android during the same day that Christopher Nolan?s epic sequel to the Batman trilogy will be launched in theaters. Details of the game are yet to be revealed, as well as its pricing. But sources from the web are saying that Gameloft will launch the game under a freemium model, and will probably offer in-app purchases in exchange for more levels of crime-fighting action and fun. Although the teaser is rather short, nearly 30 seconds only, it’s quite enough to tell us what the game is all about. Cheers!
