Steampunk Lightsaber Flashlight

The Force is strong in this one – the Steampunk Lightsaber Flashlight that is the creation of one particular Star Wars fan who has her fair share of technological wizardry. Working together to be a rather nifty night light, you will need a plumbing extension pipe to complete the project. In fact, vent holes were also drilled around the pipe in order for the LED light to shine through, but that is not really necessary anyways. The plumbing pipe used above is made out of solid brass, so it will take a fair amount of skill to cut and drill it through. Sanding the metal gave it a brushed look, and even better news is doing away with any need for glue or additional rings to connect the flashlight to the “case”.

You know something? Someone should come up with a steampunk version of the Star Wars universe, as I am quite sure that there is plenty of material to work around with in terms of the back story. Who knows, you might have a far younger Yoda, or perhaps Yoda’s ancestor to keep up with the times where steampunk ruled the roost?

DENZIPFADEN interactive outfit targets DJs

Now here is a piece of clothing that DJs would definitely fall in love with – especially for those who have a flair for fashion. The name itself is nigh unpronounceable, where DENZIPFADEN is the result of Dutch fashion designer Maartje Dijkstra’s work that will target DJs by delivering an interactive, high fashion outfit. This men’s outfit will let you alter the volume of your music and throw in samples as well as anything else that you want to do with a MIDI controller. All you need to do is pull on the half dozen zippers on the suit and a bracelet, and you are good to go. This particular project was developed alongside DJ and electronic composer Beorn Lebenstedt (Newk), which makes plenty of sense since it takes a DJ to know what another DJ wants. (more…)

iPad Mini connector cable spotted

Sure, there was a dud in the iPad Mini display image that was leaked earlier today, but what you see above came from the very same people who brought you the Galaxy Note 2 bezel, so I would say that the above image has a very high probability of depicting the actual iPad Mini connector cable – what do you think? This could very well be the very first component of the new iPad Mini that is pictured and shared with the rest of the world, where it is noticeably smaller compared to the current connector which works with most of all the mobile devices from Apple. Japans minimum nation requirements: 3G
connectivity

I am quite sure that some of us out there who rely on our phone’s data connection are frustrated at times when we show up at a place, only to find the lack of a 3G signal throw a spanner in the works, as 2G connectivity is way too slow to work with. Well, if you need a decent mobile Internet connection on your device at all times, might I recommend you make the move to Japan instead? The Land of the Rising Sun is apparently a full 3G nation, according to TCA’s official statistics as of July this year. In fact, all top three of Japan’s telco subscribers, 126,194,300 in total, are now 100% on 3G+ or LTE. (more…)

iPad Mini display rumor could be Kindle Fire
instead

What you see above was originally making its rounds throughout the Internet as some form of an iPad Mini display. Needless to say, we took it with a rather large grain of salt (and for good reason, too), since you know how close to the chest Apple plays their cards. Well, the alleged iPad Mini display turned out to be rather close to that of the Amazon Kindle Fire, so I think the above is most probably a case of mistaken identity, all 7.85″ of it. It would be interesting to see if the iPad Mini is a true device, and will share a similar screen ratio as that of the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Is there a real huge market for a smaller display in terms of the tablet market? Perhaps, especially when you see Google make their way into the 7″ tablet market with the recently announced Google Nexus 7 which was manufactured by Asus. I guess Apple wants their share of the cake as well, but only time will tell just how serious Apple’s efforts would turn out to be like.

13.3 Archos FamilyPad tablet spotted at the FCC

Tablets so far have come in a handful of sizes ? 7?, 9.7? and 10.1?, although not too long ago Toshiba attempted to disrupt the market by introducing a 13.3? tablet, the Excite 13. Now if you thought that Toshiba was the only player in the market with a 13.3? tablet, you would be mistaken as thanks to an FCC filing, it seems that Archos has something similar planned as well. Spotted in an FCC filing is the Archos FamilyPad which sports a 13.3? display.

However while it might share the same screen size as the Toshiba Excite 13, the rest of its specs are probably less exciting. The FamilyPad comes with an AllWinner A10 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 8/16GB of internal storage, WiFi, an SD card slot for memory expansion, two USB ports and a front-facing camera. No word if and when the Archos FamilyPad will be making its debut stateside, but we will be keeping our eyes peeled nonetheless. So anyone else in the market for a 13.3? tablet, or would you rather get a laptop/ultrabook instead?
