After Nokia?s 14 year long reign at the top of charts showing global market sales, Samsung, with its vast array of low, mid and high-end devices have toppled them. A study that was conducted showed that Nokia which has survived with sales of low-end phones around the world sold 83 million phones in the first quarter of 2012 as opposed to Samsung?s alleged 88 million given that the official numbers only come out on April 27. Reports have stated that Nokia was securely at the top in a similar study in January but it seems the rapid turnaround in the industry was something unexpected.

A little over a week ago, we reported on a set of rumors that revealed that Samsung could be launching three new Windows Phone handsets in 2012, two of which were rumored to be Windows Phone 8 ?Apollo? devices. Well according to reports, it seems that Samsung?s Taiwanese arm has confirmed that the company would be releasing Windows Phone 8 handsets and could be retailing them as early as October. The company claimed that their focus would be on the Windows Phone 8 ?Apollo? platform as it would allow them to push out more powerful devices. For those who have noticed, the current series of Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh devices all feature single-core processors as opposed to the iPhone and Android devices which features dual-core devices and even quad-core ones as well. No word on the additional details of Samsung?s upcoming Windows Phone 8 handsets, but we will be keeping our eyes peeled so stay tuned.

Both iOS and Android offer users the ability to group apps in folders. Not only is this less messy but will help users locate apps easily. Well the it seems that Nokia could be gauging users? interest in apps for Windows Phone in a recently conducted survey. While surveys are certainly not new, one user by the name of Jonathan W noticed that one of the questions posed was about how users felt about the ability to be able to group apps into folders while in the app screen. While there is a homebrew solution for Windows Phone users to create folders for their devices, by default there is no such option available. Given Nokia?s close and special relationship with Nokia, it is possible that they could be including the ability for folders in future Lumia devices as one of the ways to set themselves apart from the competition. What do our Windows Phone-using readers out there think? Folders – yay or nay?

When HTC announced the HTC One X at MWC 2012, one of the features that the Taiwanese company boasted about its new flagship device was its camera. While the phone certainly has the ability to take some stunning photographs, some limitations of its camera software has caused some photos to turn out mediocre. Putting custom settings, proper lighting conditions and photography experience aside, XDA member NODO-GT has released a camera mod for the HTC One X, dubbed the HQ Camera For One X, that will supposedly unlock the camera?s true potential and remove whatever limitations that was previously there. Since Google+ Pages has been getting a new layout over the past week or some, the Mountain View giant is trying to get the massive user-base to get interactive and come up with their own image to be used as Chrome?s cover photo for the social networking site. While the iPad?s speaker is certainly a vast improvement over the iPhone, in noisier environments you?d be better off muting the device to help conserve some battery power. However if you?re the type that enjoys watching videos and listening to music on the iPad without the aid of headphones or external speakers, the Amplifiear Kickstarter project is looking to be an interesting project you might want to consider donating to. Heads up Soul Calibur fans, if you got bored of beating the crap out of the AI, you will be pleased to hear that Namco Bandai has heard the cries from their fans and has since issued an update for the iOS version of Soul Calibur. Yup, it seems that if you were to head over to the iTunes App Store to update the app or to purchase it, you will now be able to go head-to-head against your friends via the Local Multiplayer mode which uses your iOS device?s Bluetooth connection. Unfortunately it appears that the multiplayer mode is limited to just the iPad and the iPhone while the iPod touch is left playing single player. The app is currently available for download via the App Store for a rather steep $11.99.
