R2-D2 was many things to many sentient beings - repair droid, comedic foil, savior. What most don't realize is that above all things, R2 was a no-good little spy who secretly recorded audio and video of anything and everything. He'd often sell out to the highest bidder, or sometimes accidentally to a young Jedi who snapped a restraining bolt...

Many were disappointed by the fact that Apple had “castrated” critical iPhone features in the iPod Touch, like Mail and Calendar but hacktheipodtouch.com has guides to install these applications (at your own risk, of course). They also show how to install the Maps and Weather apps.
Getting the actual application files could be tricky for users who don’t own an iPhone. If you do own an iPhone and an iPod touch, I would ask: why? Happy installing, let us know if it worked for you. There’s a forum here too.

Samsung has noticed that shiny phones were selling like hotcakes, so it came up with the J610, a shiny slider that looks like an update from previous models. It’s not aimed at the enthusiast market, given that the specification list does not show anything extraordinary:
I think that Samsung should stop producing 150 phones a year and focus on fewer models with the great design that they’re capable of.

Add to myYahoo! We all know it, plastic hawks or owls aren’t worth much when it comes to keep birds away from your backyard, and especially from crapping into your spa or pool. Here’s a solution that will keep them away for good. It will probably also work if you need to frighten squirrels, rabbits and prairie dogs [...]

A new GPS navigation system from European company VBO Dayton will include a DVB-T receiver, to receive over-the-air television channels. DVB-T is a broadcasting technology widely used in Asia and Europe. The PN 4000 has a 4.3” screen and the PN 6000 has a 5.3" one – both use a widescreen format. Sorry North American folks – DVB-T is not yet widely used around here, although there are many trial with DVB-H. For European folks, this system could be nice for road-trippers who would have a GPS and a TVin the same device.
Other features include an SD slot for videos, music, and photos, etc. If you want to use it as a hands-free cell phone device, you can also add-on a Bluetooth module.

A new product package from Costco aims to bring Golf into your living or office. The Launchpad Professional Golf Simulator is a small patch of fake grass with a tethered golf ball on it. The actual simulator works with PC, Mac, and PS2 (and with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 through 2006), but the Tiger Woods game that is bundled with the simulator will only work on PC. Simply take a golf club of your own and start swinging away.
The simulator will convert the real-life shot to parameters for the game’s simulation. Factors include club head speed, angle, and path of the shot. An 8 foot USB cable is included -- And lefties don't worry, both right and left handed people can use it.

Add to myYahoo! My husband's cat has pretty much three phrases: give me your wife's pearls because they look better on me (which they don't), I don't like soymilk in my coffee so what are you putting in that cup, and, what makes you think the mighty Bester can be confined to such a tiny catbox? So we don't need Meowlingual in this household. But if you find your own cat more opaque you may be very excited to hear that Japan's Takeda Co is about to bring out a cat interpretation gadget. It has a vocabulary of 200 phrases, of which apparently the top is, "I can't stand it". Takara has had considerable success with its Bowlingual dog interpreter, and inexplicably the Meowlingual's going to be cheaper. How little they understand cats already! $74. [Camille]

Add to myYahoo! One can't always have one's mobile ringer turned on, because sometimes one's ringer is something too sex-ay for, say, Philosophy of the Human Foot 202. But you're desperately waiting to hear whether or not your grandmother finally kicked off and left you an enormous heap of cobber that you mean to immediately spend on great gobs of hashish shaped like chicken heads. Mathmos is with you. They've given you the choice of blue or white in the symbol of ultra-Science, the light bulb, or red or blue in the symbol of ultra-Cool, the lava lamp. Balance is achieved via one of each. Requires 3 x SR60 batteries (2 sets generously provided) and compatible only with 1800/1900 MHZ GSM mobiles. $12. [Camille]
